While Quran variations are well known at an academic level, many of our Muslim friends are still convinced that the Quran has been perfectly preserved. In this discussion, Luis Dizon explains the history of the Quran from Caliph Uthman to Ibn Mujahid’s canonization of seven qira’at.

Because they idolize their religion and they are afraid of what might find. Plus the Quran tells them not to do so because it will corrupt their faith. It basically says the exact opposite of the Bible. It says " don't look into things lest you find out you've been decieved". Personally, that alone would be enough to make me jump ship. But some are staying on this sinking boat. And it's honestly not commendable, all that will be left of islam when it's done is hard hearted, hard headed barbarians that really think God wants them to kill, rape and pillage. There will be another civil war in Islam before its all over.

I think Dr. Marijn van Putten’s comments on the Qur’anic text being “incomprehensible,” in some areas, were made in the context of the Qur’an not being revealed with diacritical marks. His comments highlight the uncertainty about how the grammar of the text should be understood to be recited (which led to debates among various grammarians) and on if the readings that we have today are exactly as Muhammad would have intended.

I was raised Muslim but I never believed that the Quran as we have it is the unchanged word of God. The fact that a caliph would burn all other manuscripts and codify is always suspect. The book itself is lauded for its “literary” merits but it’s just a boring repetition which is why it’s so easy to memorise. What we Muslims lost was critical thinking

The best historical evidence indicates the quran was a fabrication project by the abassids, purely to unify the arab empire. Much of the text is 'borrowed' from known sources (Christian lectionaries, Gnostic texts, Jewish rabbinical texts, and even popular stories!). Arab scholars estimate about 20-25% is unintelligible (mainly foreign words, as well as incorrect grammar); the so called 'dark passages'. It is disjointed, disorganised and repetitive. Even cult members admit that the sura (chapters) are not in order of 'being revealed), but roughly ordered by length of text. It is embarrassing even before you examine the constant denigration and commands of violence towards others.

We have Quran manuscripts that predate the Abbasids though. How does this theory account for that?

@@luisdizon2486 "predate the Abbasids" Where is a muhammed quran? None. Where is an Uthman quran? None. Even though both are THE most important qurans in islam, and they supposedly had an empire to write, copy, distribute and protect them. How is it possible that none of those exist? The six earliest "complete" qurans have been examined by islamic scholars (e.g. Prof. Dr. Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu, and Dr. Tayyar Altıkula), and even they say they are not Uthman qurans. Datings are 8th - 9th century. Most are incomplete. Then you have texts like the Birmingham manuscript, which may well be of the Ummayyad era, but is only two pages and is purely Christian, the material clearly borrowed from the 7 sleepers of Ephesus, the proto-evangelium of James, and the story of Moses.

Haven't finished the video yet but, I saw another video about textual criticism and mention that we have around 30 Quran which have contradiction text with thousands of differences which sometime change the theology as well. Thanks for this video as well

And now there is an online database of variants to point all muslims to. The corpus coranicum. It displays the texts of several different arabic qurans so you can see the text variants across them. When cult members claim there are no changes, or that they are 'all the same', you can point them to that database and ask them what they see. Rather than be honest, they run away.

David, you can harmonize the sahih hadith in 1:15:13 and 1:30:10. The solution is that Zayd ibn Thabit was collecting the quran but that Muhammad did not know of it or did not consider his work the best at the time that this saying of Muhammad happened. He did not get the endorsement.

The collection happened after Muhammad already died, so he was no longer around to give his opinion on it.

@@luisdizon2486 Yes, but the hadith says that it happened but not when or to what scope. It is possible that they collected some things but not exhaustively. Zayd's prior work (and connections) might have been why he was chosen later. In particular, the famous "sheep ate the quran" because they were proccupied with Muhammad's death presupposes that there were written copies of things. There apparently was not a systematic effort to collect the entirety of it and standardize it. Also, the famous story of muhammad's scribe who apostasized because he was changing the way Muhammad revealed it also presupposes that some of it was written as well. There is nothing really extreme about assuming that some people write things down and some people had collections of some of those writings. Regardless, the second hadith does not contradict the first because the second provides only a description not an endorsement of Zayd's collecting, which was my point. Whether these hadith are correct or not is a separate matter.

And the moral of the story is… quran is not perfectly preserved. When the context can be changed by zabar, nukta, zer or pesh, how can al-lah expect the non native speakers to have any clue of how to recite or what on earth are they reciting. I came once upon an ottoman empire complaint that there were too many different Corans in circulation (I think it was eight) and the consequent efforts to reduce said numbers. It came from a lecturer of the Institut du Monde Arabe. Call them the "french litterate muslims and friends", if you will.

@@celiand2618 I believe more in the Koran which was held by the companions of the Prophet Muhammad SAW (Abu Bakar, Uthman bin Affan, Umar bin Khattab, Saad bin Abi Waqqas) rather than a burnt Koran, in the same year Friend of the Prophet Muhammad SAW "Sa'ad bin Abi Waqas" has spread the Koran on the Chinese peninsula, and there is no difference between the Chinese version of the Koran and today.

@@jurnalart121 I strongly suggest you ask the "burning question" of the Qira'at. That's a starting point. You will dig deeper later on once you understand the basic problem of 10 Qira'at for the ahruf Uthman did not eliminate.

Religious Conceit ‘Do not be over-righteous, neither be over-wise - why destroy yourself?’ (Ecclesiastes 7:16) Solomon is referring to those who are full of religious conceit. Some people become overly righteous or wise in their own eyes, believing that only their religious acts, or way of doing things, are acceptable to God. They are intolerant and have closed their mind to anything else. They are usually argumentative and legalistic; deluded by their own religious acts. They are so rigid or narrow in their views that they lose their sensitivity to the true reason for doing right - to honor God. It is exhausting being around legalistic or conceited people isn’t it? Usually they don’t listen well to another point of view. If they seem to listen it is only to divert the conversation back to their own beliefs and opinions. These people are often full of good works and religious acts to show their good behavior to God. But they have become so caught up in their right behavior, that their attitude towards others who may be different, lacks understanding and sensitivity. In short, they destroy whatever relationship that existed with others. God created us to be whole people who seek to please Him by seeking His righteousness and goodness. Not our own. Over-righteous and over-wise people will end up destroying themselves, their relationship with others and also with God. For those of us who tend to lean towards religious conceit, let’s take a sober and humble attitude by reflecting on Ecclesiastes 7: 20, ‘There is not a righteous man on earth who does what is right and never sins.’ None of us are perfect; our religious conceit is in vain. Prayer:- ‘Heavenly Father, forgive me for the way I have behaved towards other Christians who live differently to me. You have not called me to judge them, but to love them. I want to honor you Lord so help me to serve you lovingly rather than religiously. Thank you.’ In Jesus’ Mighty Name, AMEN! Final Thoughts:- Even those who follow Christ sincerely may be different in behavior to ourselves. Let’s not be quick to judge. We are not the one to say that our way is right and theirs is wrong. Let Christ be the judge of them, while with fear and trembling, we concentrate on working out our own salvation (Philippians 2:12). Be Greatly Blessed! Amen!

So do not grieve for the people who disbelieve. 5:71 They thought there would be no consequences, so they turned a blind eye and a deaf ear. Yet Allah turned to them in forgiveness ˹after their repentance˺, but again many became blind and deaf. And Allah is All-Seeing of what they do.

Towards the end: the Quran has entire chapters missing. I think it's fair to say that that is comparable to the NT examples he mentions. Indeed, it's fair to say that it's a much *larger* difference. We don't have surviving mushafs with those missing chapters and verses, but then the Bible has never been through the Uthman treatment.

Qur’an Surah Yunus: verse 1-11 10:1 Alif, Lām, Rā.1 These are the verses of the wise2 Book. 10:2 Have the people been amazed that We revealed [revelation] to a man from among them, [saying], "Warn mankind and give good tidings to those who believe that they will have a [firm] precedence of honor1 with their Lord"? [But] the disbelievers say, "Indeed, this is an obvious magician." 10:3 Indeed, your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the earth in six days and then established Himself above the Throne,1 arranging the matter [of His creation]. There is no intercessor except after His permission. That is Allah, your Lord, so worship Him. Then will you not remember? 10:4 To Him is your return all together. [It is] the promise of Allah [which is] truth. Indeed, He begins the [process of] creation and then repeats it that He may reward those who have believed and done righteous deeds, in justice. But those who disbelieved will have a drink of scalding water and a painful punishment for what they used to deny. 10:5 It is He who made the sun a shining light and the moon a derived light and determined for it phases - that you may know the number of years and account [of time]. Allah has not created this except in truth. He details the signs for a people who know. 10:6 Indeed, in the alternation of the night and the day and [in] what Allah has created in the heavens and the earth are signs for a people who fear Allah. 10:7 Indeed, those who do not expect the meeting with Us and are satisfied with the life of this world and feel secure therein and those who are heedless of Our signs - 10:8 For those their refuge will be the Fire because of what they used to earn. 10:9 Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds - their Lord will guide them because of their faith. Beneath them rivers will flow in the Gardens of Pleasure. 10:10 Their call therein will be, "Exalted are You, O Allah," and their greeting therein will be, "Peace." And the last of their call will be, "Praise to Allah, Lord of the worlds!" 10:11 And if Allah was to hasten for the people the evil [they invoke]1 as He hastens for them the good, their term would have been ended for them.2 But We leave the ones who do not expect the meeting with Us, in their transgression, wandering blindly.

[Allah] said, "Have you acknowledged and taken upon that My commitment?" They said, "We have acknowledged it." He said, "Then bear witness, and I am with you among the witnesses." 3:82 And whoever turned away after that - they were the defiantly disobedient. 3:83 So is it other than the religion of Allah they desire, while to Him have submitted [all] those within the heavens and earth, willingly or by compulsion, and to Him they will be returned? 3:84 Say, "We have believed in Allah and in what was revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Descendants [al-Asbāṭ], and in what was given to Moses and Jesus and to the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and we are Muslims [submitting] to Him."

If you are righteous, He is certainly All-Forgiving to those who ˹constantly˺ turn to Him.

Allah can find better wives for his precious prophet! The wives were jealous because he slept with his slave girl Mariah! Mohd simply gaslighted his wives by putting the blame on them for his own lust!!! Sunan an-Nasa'i 3959: It was narrated from Anas, that the Messenger of Allah had a female slave with whom he had intercourse, but 'Aishah and Hafsah would not leave him alone until he said that she was forbidden for him. Then Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, revealed: "O Prophet! Why do you forbid (for yourself) that which Allah has allowed to you.' until the end of the Verse. ‎أَخْبَرَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ يُونُسَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ، حَرَمِيٌّ - هُوَ لَقَبُهُ - قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي قَالَ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم كَانَتْ لَهُ أَمَةٌ يَطَؤُهَا فَلَمْ تَزَلْ بِهِ عَائِشَةُ وَحَفْصَةُ حَتَّى حَرَّمَهَا عَلَى نَفْسِهِ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ‏{‏ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ لِمَ تُحَرِّمُ مَا أَحَلَّ اللَّهُ لَكَ ‏}‏ إِلَى آخِرِ الآيَةِ ‏.‏ Tafsir al-Jalalayn Qurān Commentary on Quran 66:1-5 v1: O Prophet! Why do you prohibit what God has made lawful for you in terms of your Coptic handmaiden Māriya - when he lay with her in the house of Hafsa who had been away but who upon returning and finding out became upset by the fact that this had taken place in her own house and on her own bed - by saying ‘She is unlawful for me!’ seeking by making her unlawful for you to please your wives? And God is Forgiving Merciful having forgiven you this prohibition. ‎{ يٰأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِيُّ لِمَ تُحَرِّمُ مَآ أَحَلَّ ٱللَّهُ لَكَ تَبْتَغِي مَرْضَاتَ أَزْوَاجِكَ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ } v2: Verily God has prescribed He has made lawful for you when necessary the absolution of your oaths to absolve them by expiation as mentioned in the sūrat al-Mā’ida Q. 589 and the forbidding of sexual relations with a handmaiden counts as an oath so did the Prophet s expiate? Muqātil b. Sulaymān said ‘He set free a slave in expiation for his prohibition of Māriya’; whereas al-Hasan al-Basrī said ‘He never expiated because the Prophet s has been forgiven all errors’. And God is your Protector your Helper and He is the Knower the Wise. ‎{ قَدْ فَرَضَ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمْ تَحِلَّةَ أَيْمَانِكُمْ وَٱللَّهُ مَوْلاَكُمْ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَلِيمُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ } v3: And mention when the Prophet confided to one of his wives namely Hafsa a certain matter which was his prohibition of Māriya telling her ‘Do not reveal it!’; but when she divulged it to ‘Ā’isha reckoning there to be no blame in doing such a thing and God apprised him He informed him of it of what had been divulged he announced part of it to Hafsa and passed over part out of graciousness on his part. So when he told her about it she said ‘Who told you this?’ He said ‘I was told by the Knower the Aware’ namely God. ‎{ وَإِذْ أَسَرَّ ٱلنَّبِيُّ إِلَىٰ بَعْضِ أَزْوَاجِهِ حَدِيثاً فَلَمَّا نَبَّأَتْ بِهِ وَأَظْهَرَهُ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ عَرَّفَ بَعْضَهُ وَأَعْرَضَ عَن بَعْضٍ فَلَمَّا نَبَّأَهَا بِهِ قَالَتْ مَنْ أَنبَأَكَ هَـٰذَا قَالَ نَبَّأَنِيَ ٱلْعَلِيمُ ٱلْخَبِيرُ } v4: If the two of you namely Hafsa and ‘Ā’isha repent to God … for your hearts were certainly inclined towards the prohibition of Māriya that is to say your keeping this secret despite knowing the Prophet’s s dislike of it which is itself a sin the response to the conditional ‘if the two of you repent to God’ has been omitted to be understood as ‘it will be accepted of both of you’; the use of the plural qulūb ‘hearts’ instead of the dual qalbayn ‘both your hearts’ is on account of the cumbersomeness of putting two duals together in what is effectively the same word; and if you support one another tazzāharā the original second tā’ of tatazāharā has been assimilated with the zā’; a variant reading has it without this assimilation tazāharā against him that is the Prophet in what he is averse to then know that God He huwa a pronoun for separation is indeed his Protector His supporter and Gabriel and the righteous among the believers Abū Bakr and ‘Umar may God be pleased with both of them wa-Jibrīlu wa-sālihu’l-mu’minīna is a supplement to the syntactical locus of the subject of inna sc. ‘God’ who will also be his supporters and the angels furthermore further to the support of God and those mentioned are his supporters assistants of his in supporting him to prevail over both of you. ‎{ إِن تَتُوبَآ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ فَقَدْ صَغَتْ قُلُوبُكُمَا وَإِن تَظَاهَرَا عَلَيْهِ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ مَوْلاَهُ وَجِبْرِيلُ وَصَالِحُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمَلاَئِكَةُ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ ظَهِيرٌ } v5: It may be that if he divorces you that is if the Prophet divorces his wives his Lord will give him in your stead read yubaddilahu or yubdilahu wives better than you azwājan khayran minkunna is the predicate of ‘asā ‘it may be’ the sentence being the response to the conditional - the replacement of his wives by God never took place because the condition of his divorcing them never arose - women submissive to God affirming Islam believing faithful obedient penitent devout given to fasting - or given to emigrating in God’s way - previously married and virgins. ‎عَسَىٰ رَبُّهُ إِن طَلَّقَكُنَّ أَن يُبْدِلَهُ أَزْوَاجاً خَيْراً مِّنكُنَّ مُسْلِمَاتٍ مُّؤْمِنَاتٍ قَانِتَاتٍ تَائِبَاتٍ عَابِدَاتٍ سَائِحَاتٍ ثَيِّبَاتٍ وَأَبْكَاراً } Tafsir al-Jalalayn, trans. Say (O Muhammad): “(The task of giving) miracles are within the Power of Allah alone - as for me, I am only a plain warner.” 29:51 (Is it right for them to ask for other miracles?) Is it not sufficient for them that We have revealed to you the Qur’an which is recited to them? Surely, in the Qur’an there is a mercy and an admonition to true believers. 29:52 Say (O Muhammad): “Allah is the All-Sufficient Witness (in the matter discussed) between me and you. He knows all that is in the heavens and the earth. And those who believe in falsehood, and deny Allah it is they who are the losers.”

Qur’an Surah Fatir:verse 1-8 35:1 All praise is for Allah, the Originator of the heavens and the earth, Who made angels ˹as His˺ messengers with wings-two, three, or four. Indeed, Allah’s promise is true. So do not let the life of this world deceive you, nor let the Chief Deceiver1 deceive you about Allah. 35:6 Surely Satan is an enemy to you, so take him as an enemy. He only invites his followers to become inmates of the Blaze. 35:7 Those who disbelieve will have a severe punishment. But those who believe and do good will have forgiveness and a great reward. 35:8 Are those whose evil-doing is made so appealing to them that they deem it good ˹like those who are rightly guided˺? ˹It is˺ certainly Allah ˹Who˺ leaves to stray whoever He wills, and guides whoever He wills. So do not grieve yourself to death over them ˹O Prophet˺. Surely Allah is All-Knowing of what they do.

Qur’an Surah At-Tawbah: verse 30-35 9:30 The Jews say, “Ezra is the son of Allah,” while the Christians say, “The Messiah is the son of Allah.” Such are their baseless assertions, only parroting the words of earlier disbelievers. May Allah condemn them! How can they be deluded ˹from the truth˺? 9:31 They have taken their rabbis and monks as well as the Messiah, son of Mary, as lords besides Allah,1 even though they were commanded to worship none but One God. There is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Him. Glorified is He above what they associate ˹with Him˺! 9:32 They wish to extinguish Allah’s light1 with their mouths, but Allah will only allow His light to be perfected, even to the dismay of the disbelievers. 9:33 He is the One Who has sent His Messenger with ˹true˺ guidance and the religion of truth, making it prevail over all others, even to the dismay of the polytheists. 9:34 O believers! Indeed, many rabbis and monks consume people’s wealth wrongfully and hinder ˹others˺ from the Way of Allah. Give good news of a painful torment to those who hoard gold and silver and do not spend it in Allah’s cause. 9:35 The Day ˹will come˺ when their treasure will be heated up in the Fire of Hell, and their foreheads, sides, and backs branded with it. ˹It will be said to them,˺ “This is the treasure you hoarded for yourselves. Now taste what you hoarded!”

why don't people talk about the verses of other religions Muslims copy pasted in the Qur'an and what are the only verses that come from Muslims coupled with all the foreign words we find all over Quran don't ignore this when you talk about the Qur'an most of Quran come from other books and faiths the Arabic language use to have 6 letters they later added 22 more even some of the surah's is not from Islam its copied from the Arab pagan texts

I saw Van Putten claim the ONLY way the extant versions of the Koran could be so similar was the scribes were very diligent. Which you me, automatically discredited him as we know of the consistent, historical attempts to purge errant copies. To not acknowledge the impact of constant editing and purges on removing errant copies seemed a significant oversight (but also something that would endear himself to Ms).

None will be wronged. 39:70 Every soul will be paid in full for its deeds, for Allah knows best what they have done. 39:71 Those who disbelieved will be driven to Hell in ˹successive˺ groups. When they arrive there, its gates will be opened and its keepers will ask them: “Did messengers not come to you from among yourselves, reciting to you the revelations of your Lord and warning you of the coming of this Day of yours?” The disbelievers will cry, “Yes ˹indeed˺! But the decree of torment has come to pass against the disbelievers.” 39:72 It will be said to them, “Enter the gates of Hell, to stay there forever.” What an evil home for the arrogant!

Qur’an Surah Al-Baqarah: verse 211-213 2:211 Ask the Children of Israel how many clear signs We have given them. And whoever trades Allah’s favour-after receiving it-˹for disbelief˺ should know that Allah is indeed severe in punishment. 2:212 The life of this world has been made appealing to the disbelievers, and they mock the believers. Those who are mindful ˹of Allah˺ will rank above them on the Day of Judgment. And Allah provides for whoever He wills without limit. 2:213 Humanity had once been one community ˹of believers before they lost faith˺. Then Allah raised prophets as deliverers of good news and as warners, and revealed to them the Scriptures in truth to judge among people regarding their disputes. And no one disputed the Scriptures except the very people who received them after clear proofs had come to them-out of jealousy. Then Allah, by His grace, has guided the believers to the truth regarding those disputes. And Allah guides whoever He wills to the Straight Path.
