The new series of videos by White Dalton Motorcycle Solicitors casts a light on the Insurance Industry and what every biker needs to know.
Andrew Prendergast and Gavin Grewal, solicitors at White Dalton, tell you who's who, why you get random phonecalls from companies who claim they can help you, the true horror of hire bikes - and remind you that if it's too good to be true - it usually is!
Please do let us know what you think in the comments, and if there are topics you'd like us to talk about, mention that too 👍

This should be standard learning material for all new riders. The thing you don't want to talk about but everyone will need eventually.

First article in Ride I read is the White Dalton one, winds me up though with the blatant abuse and `robbery` the brokers do . So when I had an `off` in 2019 I phoned my insurance company to register the accident. I feel she was trying to `trip me up` because she was asking if bike was serviced etc and after I said I went into the back of a Landrover she said "well that's your fault" . I pointed out that I was dodging a tarpaulin which came off a lorry at the time lol. Next call was to White Dalton and I instructed them to sort claim out. Claim went ok, "the law is very clear regarding insecure loads" Andrew Dalton mentioned so there wasn't much chance of case going to court. Basically the firm kept me informed and I can recommend them 👌

In a way I feel very lucky to have my process running with you WD. But I rather never ever came off my bike. This that was discussed in this video it was doscussed with me when the delivery of said "free" hire bike, with one of your Junior Solicitors. One thing that was not mentioned as most of the times, the SAME company that takes your pride and joy to their depo, is the same company that evaluates and tries to get the costs of fixing your bike, would be the same company that tries and hire you a bike... If it wheren't for WD I would have been stripped out of my hard earning money. Thank you all for your advise and support. I can say that I really feel that I am beeing taken care off. In all of this process this has been the truly one good thing. I was taken to WD by 44teeth so shout out to them as well. From riders to riders. Thank you

Thank you. What we need to hear. I had similar a couple of years ago after getting hit, asked insurer if call is recorded and clearly stated I do not need hire bike as I have a car.

Exactly what happened to me. Broker reporting number went straight to a claims handling company (you will know them!). Hire bike turned up in less than 24 hours at £1130 per week. My bike taken 170 miles to storage. I off hired the bike and was put under pressure on the phone to reconsider. I was also encouraged to boost my claim for riding gear and injury, neither of which were relevant. Fortunately, I was contacted by the other party's insurer and as it was a simple write off claim, we settled satisfactorily without involving a '4th' party. A whole level of middle man expenses adding to to cost of the claim and hence, the cost of insurance premiums.

Useful insight to the dodgy tactics and underhanded scheming that the insurance world imposes on its customers who pay hard earned money believing they will be looked after when needed. Shocking really that it’s allowed to go on. Thanks for the great info you guys explain so well 👍

I never add optional cover such as legal protection, expensive, personal injury etc.. to my policy. I just had to make a claim and only dealt with the underwriter and approved repairer. Any extras I need, I know I have to organise & pay for myself!

Awesome video guys. We recognise very well all of what you have described. At the end of the day, an injured biker should always choose a specialist to represent them. You wouldn't get your Doctor to sort your ruptured ACL. You would look for an orthopaedic consultant who specialises in ACL ruptures. 👍

Great video. Shouldn’t really be having to think about this stuff after having an off. But it seems the insurers/brokers are just finding other ways to get our money!! Well done WD

This whole hire bike, credit agreement et cetera needs exposing big time. It doesn't seem to happen in the car insurance world, so why are we as bikers such mugs? Spread the word and spread it loud please.📢

Great video guys, literally telling my story. But unfortunately by the sounds of it the same for many others out there. Thankfully I made the call to this company, after initial problems with insurance/storage. They totally saved the day, have made the whole process simple and easy to deal with. Honestly cannot recommend this company enough 🙌🏻👍🏻

Great video as always guys! Some questions for you lovely gents: 1. Should I call the Police at the scene on 101 as a matter of course? 2. Should I ask to see some sort of ID from the other driver to check they aren't giving false details? 3. I commute to London on a bike, in theory I could commute to work in my car but it would be more expensive on fuel and take longer; would that be a reasonable excuse to have a hire bike? Plus having a hire bike means I can still go for fun rides. 4. I know you don't want to name bad brokers or insurance companies as you don't want to get sued, but maybe you could name some who you've had good experiences with?

Never give another party your address! You’ve no idea who they are. Absolutely no need to give your address to anyone. Bad advice.
