In this video, I will tell you the truth about two thin coats paint! Join me as I put the paint through its paces painting Horus Ascended - the fantastic new model from Forgeworld! I'll be using 100% Two Thin Coats Paints for this - so make sure you watch all the way through for my opinion and recommendations! Trans Atlantis Games were good enough to send me a full set of the paints so that I could try them all out!

Wow!!! Watching you paint you seem to have so much confidence!! I have been painting figures on and off for 40 years and my standard hasn't changed much at all (probably due to the long periods when I haven't painted a figure), so quite often painting a figure can intimidate me. Loved the way you did teh flesh on teh face and I have just painted a figure using a wash, so will attempt your way on a future project. Really enjoyed this video and if I wasn't already subbed I would do so in a heart beat.👍👍😉

First time I’ve stumbled over your channel, and I’m in! Great video and such a nice pace as well. So I actually have mainly used the exact same colors you used from my TTC - it’s the colors I’ve used most. And I completely agree with you, on basically all your thoughts. Vampire Fang is weirdly lumpy and Black wash is not good. Berserker red and Dragon’s Gold are some of the best paints I ever used. Consistency is the top asset of this range, it’s so easy to move between colors as most behave exactly like I expect.

An honest review? Great to see and hear these days! Sadly no local shop seems to be stocking Duncan's range around me, so I'll be admiring them from a distance for the time being. Although I'm very much spoiled for choice with the likes of Citadel, Vallejo and Scale75 all being readily available to me. Duncan seems to have a good thing going with his range and I'm hoping the second wave builds upon the existing range well.

Same, don’t think US has finalized the shipping and distribution yet. I can’t wait though, I may end up buying from a UK company and shipping, but that shipping cost 😅

You will start to see these a lot more in US stores by the end of May. I work at a FLGS and we will be getting the paints in April. Distribution giant Asmodee started carrying these paints and as they have quite a large distribution network you are going to see them in a lot of stores that have the floor space to have another paint rack in their store.

My store has been waiting since last may for two thin coats, it is currently scheduled for q2 release. This is most likely due to the garage band (literally) paint line they have producing the paint.

Awesome video, been working with these paints very recently and your insight was interesting! I know it’s late and been a while , but how do you feel about the Battle Mud Wash ? I’m painting up Berzerkers and am unsure which wash to use for everything not getting the black wash. I have battle mud wash , but also both new and old formulations of agrax.

@@ThePaintingCoach Yeah, thanks for the advice! I've seen it used to good effect but theres something about the consistency, maybe a drop of lahmiam or contrast would make it perfect, but probably best to avoid the fiddle and stick with the old agrax, as all I am really looking for is a strong recess shadow between panels etc, not a subtle shade across a cloak for example. Although the wash does seem dark which is good for me, and is slightly more yellow than agrax, so I suppose it may have a purpose if I could get it go on nicely :D

I have the kickstarter-allin and i have been enjoying the paints. The coverage is fantastic. While that is a strong Pro for them I found using them as a glaze took more thinning than expected, even heavily thinned they coverage is just super strong! Just a matter of using more water than expected.

RRP on Citadel is 2.75 for base and layers, excluding the white top metallics

Considering how much I enjoy Vallejo, I don't see a need to buy paints that are smaller than Vallejo, and more expensive than Citadel, which I already find to be ridiculously pricey.

I have had zero regret, and jumped on the 2nd wave instantly, I own the full citadel range, pro acryl range, and assorted other specific paints like Scale 75 metallics and other random nice ones like AK's White. Nothing seems to go on quite as smooth for me as the two thin coats paints do.

@@malakye7459 stop ! You're selling on 2TC I've just amassed a nice set of Scale 75. About to pull the trigger on a hell of a deal for the full range of S75 metallic and inks. And now here you go making me rethink things. Question I can't seem to find sets of their Fantasy range beyond the 2 basic essentials. Im torn in a way I feel like I want the brighter colors this range has over reg75 but this could also just be my imagination.

We got wave 1, and have pledged for wave 2. The biggest problem for me is that Asmodee needs to get off their asses and get the paint available to us finally.

They are the easiest paints I have ever used. They look great with a fast coat and a wash over them. Especially when you are just trying to get models finished for table use in mass. They are definitely best for painting armies to a solid standard quickly.

About 4 minutes in, and just wanted to say (not sure if you talk about it later yet) that the I found while I used 2TC paint that the Spirit Medium helped thin the paint better than water did, for me at least

So you mention the silver used for highlighting isn't the best and mention a vallejo chrome being better. Is that the model air chrome or the metal color chrome?

I really want to try them, but its really difficult to get them in Germany or they are fast out of stock or i do not get them as a bundle. So this is the perfect Video for me. Sadly i am no official Mini painter, i want to but well😅. So reaching out to the company would result in i dunno what.

Great video but did you not find the dropper bottles to be rubbish. Lots of paint leaking into the cap which needs sorting out. I love the silver and golds in the range.

Agree on those bottles. The metallics are standouts to me and good enough to put up with the bottles for the regular colors I'm probably sticking towards AK or Pro Acryl

Personally feel there a bit of a citadel rip off, direct copys with some name changes and more expensive..Duncan using his name to good effect. paint drys in dropper bottle tip..squeeze to hard top pops of paint pours everywhere. Nice try but not for me thanks. Think these were aimed at the american market anyway?!? I maybe wrong. Sorry great paint job btw

Probably. Here in the U.S. they're very anticipated, everyone state side hates the pots. I wrote something about it being more paint but honestly in comparison to vallejo, eh. Many of us would buy this over citadel paints just for the bottle transfer alone

The truth is that it's a paint range that's too expensive for what it is. It costs about €5.5 here in Sweden and I honestly don't see how it's any better than AK, Vallejo, or Citadel, and they are only about €3 - €3.5. As someone who can't go and spend a fortune on paints and have to consider the actual quality to price ratio, Two Thin Coats doesn't do a great job in convincing me that it's worth it's high price :/ Even Scale 75, a brand I considered expensive but really like, costs less then Two Thin Coats. I honestly wonder how long they will be around once the hype dies down, Duncan can't carry they brand by himself for too long, it either needs to do more to prove it's worth the price or be priced more reasonably.

Thats a comment I was looking for. They are way too expensive regardless of their quality. In my country they cost 4,50-5 Euro for 15ml while Vallejo costs 2,50 for 17ml. I tried a wide variety of paints and the differences are sometimes barely noticable to ever justify me buying a new brand.

Heavily pigmented straight formula paint that is just paint is very desirable in the world of contrast clones which has infected the market. But they should come in classic pots to make mixing easier. But that's not a big deal because they include a shaker ball. I might try them but I would need a guarantee they'll be made forever. Another thing that has infected the market is companies cancelling or changing paint lines without asking their users for permission. Once a company does that I never go back.

I think that is a valid consoderation - my counter would be to consider how much GW paint goes to waste - either drying on the pot/lid or on the palette from taking too much out

@@ThePaintingCoach None did and they are 5 years old so far but then again i paint once every red moon. GW paints never got ruined despite how long I own them as for Duncans they are too recent to know that. If someone paints a lot, I am sure their paints can last long enough before they would dry. That and if one paints a lot, it means they can afford GW minis pretty well, and are hence rich enough not to care about the price of anything in the hobby.

As good as a painter he is, I don't think every person needs their own paint range, and I see this more of a cash grab than an actual evolution in paint quality. He's done literally nothing that doesn't already exist other than put his name on it. I also think that now because he's got his own paint range, he wont be making videos using other paints so will be biased when it comes to tutorial videos. I also think it's daft to create a paint range, and have that paint range come with a sheet that tells you exactly what paint it's mimicing from GW. Seems like copying someones homework and sticking a different name on it. I don't think this is better, cheaper or adds anything you can't already get elsewhere. And I also think having 3 paints vs 1 contrast paint is vastly more expensive for almost no noticable difference.

100%, there were already too many paint brands before he came out with his. IF you want to add something substantial when it comes to paints you should do what Ninjon did, he worked with Monument Hobbies to make a few paints he thought should be added to the range and now has his name on them and those who like Monument Hobbies have a handfull if new paints that fills a gap in the range. That's enough, just because someone is a famous and skilled painter they don't need to make a whole range that doesn't seem all that different from AK, Citadel, and Vallejo That copying homework analogy was pretty good, they're not even trying to hide it 😂 Though I don't agree with one contrast paint being able to do what 3 paints can, but if you like your paint jobs like that then more power to you, more minis on the table and less time spent painting I guess.
