I own over 600 pots of paint for painting Warhammer miniatures. Some would say this is too many...and they wouldn't be wrong, BUT, today we're adding to that list and trying out the new Two Thin Coats range from Duncan Rhodes.

I got the kickstarter too and like you I had one dodgy bottle nib so far so likely a tolerance issue at manufacture. However having seen the prices at retail I wouldn't recommend over vallejo for example given the massive price difference.

Thanks for this, I did think that maybe they were just a cash grab but you can clearly see from your video the quality and ease of use. Also, love the simple colour schemes, I am very much into the idea that tabletop ready shouldn't be too fussy. Cheers mate.

Nice review - they look pretty good, especially the metallics; but not sure I need ANOTHER paint range in my collection. Feels like there's a lot of paint ranges out there now, all fighting for our attention.

Absolubtly, there's so much choice and variation it can be a little overwhelming, especially for new hobbyists. That being said, more variety equals more choice and that is always a good thing. For me these fall between citadel and pro acryl. They cover just as well as pro acryl paints but aren't quite as thin, but flow nicer than citadel paints.

The 1 issues I have with this is scaling up in production quality. Giving great versions to kickstarted is one thing, mass producing and keeping the quality is another. Think I’ll wait a bit longer and see peoples reactions after they’ve been in production for awhile before I try them out myself.

I was lucky enough to try some of these at Broadside, my local clubs Wargaming Convention, and was impressed by how well they thinned and covered. The metallics were really impressive and I’ll be getting a bottle or two of Dragon’s Gold.

The paints are really nice but honestly it was the metallics that surprised me most. It's where most paint brands fall short but these are gorgeous.

Nice to see you got on with them. I'm not on the hunt for any new brands myself at the moment, but I guess this is another to consider in the future if I fancy something new

New paint sets are always weird as generally people are set with the brands they already use. Moving to a full other set or brand is a big ask. Would defo recommend picking up the silvers though next time you need a restock, they're gorgeous

I've certainly been pleasantly surprised with the little bit I've played with them. Doom Death Black and White Star blow the Citadel equivalents out of the water. They're definitely going to need some more triads though: A good turquoise/electric blue, jade green, military/camo green. And maybe it's just my bottle of Runic Purple, but it seems a bit thick and chalky. Anyone else's like that?

Just checked my Runic Purple, seems fine on the palette but not tried painting it on anything yet. I agree, I'm looking forward to seeing some more extreme triads, with vibrant colours, but as a starting base set this is pretty nice.

nice looking paints. I've had the leaky bottle issue on other dropper bottles(mostly army painter) I haven't quite figured it out yet, maybe a slight squeeze when shaking the bottle or putting the cap on to soon after putting paint on the pallet, it seems to be an air bubble issue but just can't pinpoint the cause yet. great video as always.

Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching. I have an issue with Pro-Acryl paints where they carry on spilling out after I've stopped squeezing, always end up with more paint than I need haha

I liked the paints, no complaints there but I honestly don't like the bottles. I had the same issue of leaky lids on a couple of the handful I tried out.

The last twist of the cap gives a little bit of resistance, can make you think it's on tight when it's not

Hats off to Duncan on this one. He bet his reputation against these paints being not just acceptable, but damned good, and they absolutely delivered. There are individual paints I like more still, but there's no complete set to be this good overall I've ever used.

I always say it's silly to stick to one paint brand as paints from different brands will perform better worse than others. Also using different finishes etc can be important for paint jobs. Having said that, I've not been as impressed with a paint range as a whole since I started using Pro-Acryl, which is a very high compliment.

I dunno what the RRP is but I’ve seen them in a couple shops now at about £3.50 a bottle. I think with them being in the triad system and not having hundreds of slightly different colours, it’s easier to pick up like the 3 reds for example and see how you like them.

Really well! The shadow-mid tone-highlight setup in the range along with the conversion chart is so helpful.

I dunno about local suppliers but Element have them in individually or as sets. They are listed at £3.75 p/bottle.

The colour wheel made me laugh. It's one of those things I see in a lot of hobby set ups and videos and I always think to myself "I wonder how often they ACTUALLY use that."

Thank you for this review. Sad, I don't need more colors, with all the AK, Scale, Vallejo, Citadel, GSW and P3 (300+) Paints I have. How do they perform in comparisson to the actual top notch class of colors (Vallejo, AK, Monument Hobbies, Reaper MSP, ...). Also: Nice channel. Take my abo.

Because of doing what I do I’ve ended up with over 650 pots of paint at last count so I totally get you with not needing more. In terms of how the perform compared to other paints, I’d say they fall in between citadel and pro Acryl. They flow a little nicer and cover better than citadel. The metallics though are some of the best I’ve used outside of the Vallejo metal colour stuff

Totally get that, I also have more paint than I'll ever use. I'd say with these using the triad system, maybe pick up a triad you're likely to use (green, red, blue etc) and give them a go. Above anything else, the silvers are fantastic and I can't recommend them enough.

Lol. I just purchased a colour wheel on EBay to go along with the new brushes and air compressor/air brush kit I bought. I’ve also been experimenting with paints. Creating my own contrast paints, oil washes and using fine art paints as a base for glazes and miniature friendly base colours. I think it’s important to try new things. Not long ago I bought a set of 67 airbrush paints from Meeden, a reputable art brand. Honestly they were great and they only cost me $75 Australian. I’ve been actively sourcing alternative brands as I’m starting my own channel at the moment. Maybe we could do a collab?

I've heard good things but also wonder if i need more paints. I thought they came in a clear bottle rather than the opaque ones... Last time I checked you couldn't even buy them, it was just the kickstarter that everyone was getting paints from. Pricepoint is probably going to be the decider for me.

They're available now to buy. Element games has them at £3.75 p/bottle. They are really nice paints, I'd say they're perfect for people that like Citadel stuff but would prefer it in dropper bottles.

what size needle do you use in the airbrush?

I generally stick with a 0.3. I have 3 airbrushes set up, one with 0.2, one with 0.3 and one with 0.5 but for the most part I just use the one with the 0.3 as I rarely paint anything massive or any fine detail.
