Fun fact: if you lead with Ogerpon or any of the Loyal 3 when facing Pecharunt, they all have a line of dialogue. This proves that the Loyal 3 are connected to Pecharunt. But it also proves that Pecharunt was there as well on the day the Loyal 3 took the life of Ogrepon's guardian.

I remember when finishing the 2nd DLC, my friend and I felt there was something missing. While there were aspects that kinda explained the "teenage-angst" process that Kieran was going through, she also suggested this idea of "What if Kieran was being influenced by the Peach-mon instead of being fully controlled". When we played the epilogue, it made more sense. It actually makes me think back when Ogerpon was intimidated by Kieran- if maybe she might have felt that aura over him and it wasn't only the fact that he was a villager of the village that rejected all these years... but also the fact that there was that essence on him. Anyways, this was really nice video and the explanation made it even more clearer and solid for me. Thank you!

I feel like Pecharunt wanted to control Kieran but they couldn't due to the lack of mochi. So they seeked an alternative. Our lie about Ogerpon and the feeling of betrayal in Peachy's shop could be the catalyst for Kieran to awaken Pecharunt. That strong will and desire being the perfect conduit for him to liberate those purple fumes while in the Loyal Three altar. Maybe Kieran wasn't fully possessed because he had the Teal Mask with him, it probably gave him some immunity. Idk. And Pecharunt only awakening after Terapagos is caught and tamed, their powers were now able to reach new heights. Pecharunt probably enhanced Kieran's negative emotions vicariously without the need to puppeteer or subjugate him.

I 110% agree with you on all of this. I really feel like petarunt focuses on weakness and tries to help fix them, but it accidentally causes the pokemon and Kieran to gain whatever they desire but at a cost. Also look at kieran's hair it's the color of petarunt and his hair accessory is the same shape as the toxic chain. I feel like the only way to break petarunts influence is self discovery that they are stronger than they think, or beautifuler or smarter. That's how kieran was able to snap back because he realized that the player character needed his help and he is stronger than he thinks. Spot on video Lumios!!!!

Towards the very end of the story, Carmine says to Kieran “It feels like I’m seeing you for the first time in ages” and there’s this intentional closeup on her face. I think the game is implying this is the first time since the beginning of The Teal Mask that both siblings are not under Pecharunt’s influence

I like how the Mythical Pokémon has real story ties again, some recent Mythicals have felt like a bit of afterthought but it's nice to see a Mythical they put a lot of thought and lore into. Yeah they did the Game Freak thing where they don't specifically tell us everything, just show us and leave us to figure the rest out but there's still so much going on here, it's nice

One thing I’ve noticed with Game Freak is they like to put morals into their stories. To me, S&V has been very “reach for your goals” orientated with finding your treasure and accepting that what that treasure is to each individual differs, but deserves as much respect as your own. It was very pure hearted and encouraging, taking you on a path to success and virtue. But the DLC has had a running theme of toxic success and how it changes people. Whether that be the Loyal Three getting what they wished for (a bit like a lottery win) to then have the incident with Ogrepon (resulting in their demise), Briar becoming obsessed with proving Heath was right so much so she put the protagonist and friends in danger, to even Kieran becoming a Champion at the price of losing his humanity.

Kieran's character works infinitely better if he wasn't possessed. Kieran is a good kid who was constantly bullied and abused his entire life, all that negativity is bound to be boiling up until it exploded and that is something that happens in real life, a lot. A bad influence making Kieran further go into a bad direction however, that also does happen a lot.

The one who everyone said was possessed ended up being one of the two main characters not possessed.

Pecharunt uses his poison aura to revive the loyal three by making kieren the carrier of the poison aura so pecharunt can revive his loyal three.

I noticed that Pecharunt's signature move is called Malignant Chain and that's when it's chains come out of it's peach halves. Maybe Pecharunt can plant seeds of negative power in the minds of others that grow like a tumor and help them grow in some aspect but makes them become very negative and malicious even. But if you're strong-minded, you can overcome this influence.

My theory is that when he punched it his determination awoke the loyal 3 and pecharunt. And determination prevents pecharunts possession. The main characters and Kieran are prevented by his influence by saving there friends and to be stronger. We even see this partially with nemona she mentions battling partially due to her obsession and determination

I still feel like being influenced by Pecharunt removes agenda from Kieran's character. Carmine is awful and mentally abusive and she made his life miserable for years. Our character, his only friend, lied to and betrayed him to side with Carmine. Kieran had to repress his emotions for years, and our character pretending to become his friend only to lie and to take the few things he had was his breaking point. He couldn't repress his emotions anymore and they just exploded. This is something that would happen eventually when you get mentally abused for years by someone like Carmine and forced to repress your emotions. I can attest of that since I was mentally abused in the past. But at the end of the Indigo Disk, our character saves his life, and his trust in us is slowly restored until the moment of the fight where we call out to him. I think that Pecharunt was feeding on Kieran's frustration instead and used that power to bring the Loyal Three back to life. If Pecharunt influences Kieran, it undermines what he's going through by saying that nah it's not that he's going through something awful and he can't stand this anymore. And it also undermines Carmine's respondability in all this. Carmine is mentally abusive. If Kieran only did what he did because of Pecharunt, then it means Carmine is responsible for nothing. But she is. Kieran took these decisions on his own. He was hurt, betrayed and left all alone. He hoped it was over but he was sent right back into this situation by our character and Carmine. And when he had enough, all the anger and frustration that Carmine's abuse forced him to internalize was too much and he couldn't hold it in anymore. That's what caused his change. And even after his change, we can see that deep down, he still has insecurities. When he tells the guy from his club that if he's not strong enough, he's not worth it, he's projecting. Sure what is doing is wrong, but his feelings are justified.

Original Legendary beasts It is said that the Legendary beasts Raikou, Entei, and Suicune were reincarnated by Ho-Oh after they died in the fire that burned down the Brass Tower. They were said to represent the lightning that struck the tower (Raikou), the fire that burned the tower down (Entei), and the rain that put it out (Suicune). While it is unknown in the games if these three were already a Raikou, Entei, and Suicune before they were revived, the Pokémon Generations short The Reawakening shows them as three nameless Pokémon

The epilogue was fun and amusing. Pecharunt is a pretty cool mythical. We don't get many antagonist like mythical pokemon.

There is definitely a connection between Pecharunt, Kieran and the revival of the Lousy Three, the latter is never explained, the burial just go boom like a Dynamax Den and the 3 mons come back to life out of nowhere, it could have been triggered by Pecharunt´s energy, Kieran´s anger and the energy of the tera crystals from the mask. Pecharunt is also a ghost type pokemon which can influence people and mon with their energy. It has happened in the anime, some psychic mons like Drowsee make people or pokemon sleepy or aggresive with their energy waves. Maybe the Devs decided to not elaborate teh story further because it would be too dark for the toddlers and decided to just throw a chicken dance for the lols, i was like wtf that peach is accomplice in the murder of Ogerpon´s master, and you are throwing a chicken dance? well it is dark when a bunch of elders are forced to dance until they cant do it anymore lets not forget that the peach wanted to steal the tera masks (assuming that it was the leader of the group and not the trainer we see in the signboard among the lousy three), my god the Kitakami story had the elements of being a thriller but the devs were on a deadline and made it simple :(

I think the influence part is right, but I think it happens earlier. The purple shadow moves from his sleeve to the monument to awaken the Loyal 3. In the battle at the last sign, when the player defeats Kieran, the camera focuses in on Kieran’s fist, the same fist that later punches the monument. This is because Pecharunt is already influencing him. It probably started when we talked to him at Peachy’s stand.

I think you're right on the money with this one, influenced not possessed. It's funny how one rumor takes root & is assumed fact, like Keiran being under some sort of mind control.

Honestly from a real world perspective these kids are all likely to be spoiled rich kids. I disliked Kieran from the start. He grew on me in the BB academy. And I liked him finally at the end. I do feel like he was influenced by this unknown Pokemon. The schools kids was scared of him and massively intimidated by him in the 2nd part. His desires as a person was being met, weak to strong. Arven and Penny got caught slipping and they became mochi. Their personalities bled through. Arven's embarrassment, Penny and her Eevee love. Lady Goku and her love of battle. Ki's desire to beat the main character allowed him to tame it's power. That's the energy from the Pecharunt and it trying to possess him if you will.

Not even so much as an apology. While Kieran deserves to be half-sorry, we've got Briar apologizing over nothing. Danger? What danger? High level Pokemon, compared to the rest of the Terrarium? A mysterious new type that isn't a type at all? Wake me when it's the ???-type prior to Gen V. But yeah, Kieran's whole arc falls abysmally short of what could've been the equivalent of Fallen Takumi from FE14. And this game's equivalent of possession/zombification is essentially a goofy Yo-Kai Watch chicken dance. I wonder if this "ultra-deadly" Pecharunt will ever gain a humanoid mega form, as TyranitarTube (or some other KZfaqr) once speculated...

Pecharunts Pokédex says It draws out desires and capabilities of others and influences their will. I think it’s very clear once you put everything in context he was under its influence. He also 1st started to get corrupted next to the peach stand in the 1st place. My only question is why ain’t that peach lady at the stand bat crazy 🤣🤣🤣

The general impression that I got was that Pecharunt didn’t *intentionally* influence Kieran Pecharunt was sitting on that cushion on the countertop right by the candy bars that Kieran openly admits to swiping occasionally in the DLC That candy was probably spiked with Pecharunt residue

Potentially unrelated but see pecharunt is named after a berry and has the suffix runt so does that not kinda allude to the possibility pecharunt may have kin that also may have berry prefixes and age based suffix namesakes? If pecharunt is the runt of its kin then should we not be concerned about the liklihood of other mythical or legendary berry based siblings? The names can sometimes be a hint and since pecharunt is out now it does allow me to verbalize this possiblity because since the name came out it has been in my mind. If pecharunt is the subjugation pokemon do its kin also have similar capacity to influence other life forms or do other things like so perhaps? Is pecharunt the black sheep could the siblings be benevolent and so many questions emerge as a result of the existence of it.

I recently have been playing some YuGiOh, and started watching some of the show in the background while doing other things, to try to help me memorize what some of the cards do. There's an episode that is surprisingly very similar to the story of the epilogue. There's a boy with a card called "Mokey Mokey" (pronounced mow-key mow-key) and it puts people under it's influence and kinda zombifies them like Pecharunt does. They start saying "Mokey Mokey!" like how people under Pecharunt's control say "Mochi Mochi!" Makes me wonder if they were both inspired by some other Japanese story. Especially with the other parts of the DLC being inspired by Momotaro. YuGiOh GX Season 1, episode 23; "The Little Belowski". If you're ever bored and wanna look at it

That little theory could be right because in the blueberry academy he changed his hair to purple and it was pulled back to make it look like Pecharunt.

I think Pecharunt was keeping a low profile by only slightly influencing Kieran, maybe he's desire to meet Ogerpon was planted by it in the first place. Now that Ogerpon is no longer here(probably in our PC), Pecharunt began to take action.

Basically Kieran was getting overshadowed by this rando who was supposed to be his friend who has everything he wants and Pecharunt was like, “dude that’s not chill let’s overcome your anxiety and help you” and gave Kieran a lot of anger and then Kieran became mean? Also, I think another reason Pecharunt could cause Mochi Mayhem is because they are scared. Imagine this- you have this power where you can influence or stuff peoples mouths with Mochi and completely control them. You let them have free will, just influence them, in an attempt to help. Three of them are deemed as villains in the end and the other (if this theory is true of course) is now “weak” in your eyes again and neglected the help you gave him. They are breaking out from your influence or they end up being deemed as villains. This would be HECKA scary if they found out the cause or if for some reason something would want to attack you. You’d would try to straight up possess them, you know? The temper tantrums make sense too. I don’t believe it though- the whole Kieran getting influenced thing. It’s possible and it’s a bit suspicious that he got that mad, but he loved Ogerpon for years and ogerpon chose you. He definitely liked you and some might say he even has a crush but it was becoming obvious it was starting to get on an obsessive level. This person who he looked up to took everything away from him. Then he gets even more obsessive and tries to get you back for revenge. I don’t think ANYONE could ignore being angry. Also he was very mad right before he punched it as well. I don’t know why but for some reason I just find it unlikely. Maybe it’s because a hundred people said once “oh he’s possessed because his hairs the color purple!” Before and I found not logical as it had been like that always. Edit: I watched the video “The tale of Pecharunt” and now I do believe that Kieran could’ve been influenced. Pecharunt just wanted undying love and care, and it seemed to very much like the loyal three. It is saying that after feeding his caretakers Mochi, they constantly asked for stuff from him. This is how Pecharunt feels he earns love. When Kieran punched the shrine, he must’ve awakened the Toxic Chain’s aura and a little bit spread to Kieran. If Pecharunt is known to grant peoples wishes, he probably wanted a little bit of love from Kieran, and gave him that random confidence and strength that could possibly get him his revenge. I’m pretty sure that Kieran didn’t notice this because he wasn’t directly fed Mochi or was knowingly passed the toxic chain through from Pecharunt. Also, since it was clear that A little amount of the aura went through Kieran, as soon as Kieran realized what he was doing was wrong, it most likely wore off. This probably caused Pecharunt’s temper tantrum, because after watching that video and then this one, Pecharunt is definitely very childish.

I will say, i was a little disappointed that there wasnt a clear connection between Kieran and Pecharunt. I wouldve like for Kieran to have been clearly possessed by Pecharunt in the blueberry academy. But then in the mochi mayhem, have him be the only one that can fight against the possession. Kinda like a Riku from Kingdom Hearts thing. But, i will say, pokemon doesnt do the expected and keeps us on our toes which i can appreciate as well.

If Pecharunt was influencing Kieran, the former didn’t know how much. Pecharunt took the mob to loyalty plaza. What was there? At the time, nothing important. The loyal three weren’t there because they were revived a long time ago. If Pecharunt was directly responsible for their revival, then why was it going back?

I’d like to point out that the evening of the Festival in Teal Mask, after encountering Ogerpon and learning the role reversal of her and the “Loyal” 3, we’re still in Kieran’s good graces at that point. However, after his grandpa tells Carmine and us the truth, and Kieran is seen eavesdropping on the conversation (behind the pillar), we speak to him outside of Peachy’s. During THIS conversation at Peachy’s, Kieran challenges why we met exclusively with Carmine and the choices we’re given are to lie to him. When the convo ends and we walk away, he speaks to himself, “why…why did you lie to me?” And if you look JUST within frame during that cutscene, Pecharunt is on the countertop. Prior to the data-mine and the event going live, we didn’t know if that was ACTUALLY Pecharunt, a decoy, or just a decoration that resembled it. However, since we know it was the actual thing now, I’m inclined to think THAT moment is when it took advantage of his insecurity, that a person he saw as a friend blatantly lied to his face. He believed we saw him as inferior to ourselves, and it’s at that moment Pecharunt seized the opportunity and began influencing him, because by the time we corner him at the Loyal 3’s monument to reclaim the repaired Teal Mask, he’s already losing it, well before punching the monument after that battle. I think Pecharunt’s influence at that point isn’t escaping from the monument, so much as it’s shedding from Kieran’s fist (after he briefly came near to Pecharunt itself at Peachy’s), and going into the monument to reawaken the Loyal 3. Necromancy if you will. It’s like a small part of Pecharunt hopped a ride onto Kieran’s person, until he got to the monument, to revive its subordinates, and have them attempt to finish off Ogerpon again, or at least reclaim the masks.

This makes me want to befriend that lonely little peach 😭

Instead of Dwayne the Rock Johnson you should have used our main man Crasher Wake instead. But I feel like Pecharunt is similar to Hoopa. It's gotta have another form which isn't a ghost type and that form probably uses the malignant chains to influence others while in the current form the best it can do is poisonous mochi. Also I like how the Pecha berry which is used to cure poison is now turned into the ultimate poison pokemon. That's a nice reverse anti-venom processing phenomenon going on here.

Imagine getting lied to and betrayed by your only friend ever, only for them to take away the one being that you look up to and who motivates you when you're feeling all alone. Not to mention your crazy mentally abusive sister which makes your life miserable. Of course at some point you're tired of repressing your feelings because of her who always gets agressive when you try to give your opinion, and because of the traitor who lied to you and kept taking decisions for you without consulting you alongside the mentally abusive sister. There's a moment when you can't stand this situation anymore. When you're tired of being treated unfairly by everyone else. But yeah right. You're crazy and evil for having enough and standing your ground. I'm not saying what Kieran did was good, but his feelings are justified. The bad guys here are Carmine and us.

Lumi, what did you think about them not giving us any dialogue about Pecharunt's involvement with Ogrepon's Trainer? It's very possible that he died because of its actions, and that's why Ogrepon reacts the way it does in the battle but I just don't think vague nods and references are enough to do that story justice. The chicken dance ruined the mood for me as well, but this is all just my opinion.
