I think the first movie describes the similarities between the two words Love and Lust to a degree that makes me uncomfortable. If they made the story based on the idea that Vampires have a difficult time grasping the difference between those two concepts than that would have made for a better film. But what we got was a protagonist that just goes along with it because she thinks love and lust are synonyms, yeah what a fucken disaster. Give that bitch a dicktionary...

Actually the thing is even dumber… Meyer actually wrote the books out of order. Immediately after writing Twilight, which was her wish fulfillment fantasy from a dream she had, she wrote Forever Dawn. Forever Dawn had Jacob, the werewolves, and the Volturi, but they weren’t thought of as more than tools. I mean they already were tools, but Meyer didn’t think about them as a more than a love interest/babysitter for her wish fulfillment child, allies to protect the wish fulfillment child, and villains who would harm her, her preferred family, and her wish fulfillment child. Jacob in Forever Dawn is based on Jacob from Twilight, a guy who liked Bella but was never part of the love triangle, but was helpful enough to her that her daughter should get a supernatural boyfriend too. Forever Dawn would become parts 1 and 3 of Breaking Dawn with only a few mentions/references to the previously established characters and lore, but otherwise unchanged. Part 2 of the Breaking Dawn book was actually the last part of the series that she wrote. Honestly, I recommend you read Das Mervin’s review of the books. She goes through them chapter by chapter analyzing the the four books and what they did wrong and why they’re much worse than just sparkling vampires. There’s also a much worse version of the Renesmee/Jacob pairing. Meyer gave a crap reason in an attempt to make that pairing less creepy by saying that Renesmee was born with adult intelligence. It’s still shit, but there’s a werewolf who imprints on an actual human toddler. I specify human toddler because unlike Renesmee, a human toddler wasn’t born with “adult intelligence!” She is more likely being groomed by said werewolf and doesn’t have the false safety net of a bunch of vampires in her family wanting to protect her. Or the “adult intelligence” to give the false idea of “knowing and consenting”.

Oh, Meyer's is a crazy person. It seems to be a family trait. I went to school with her neice and nephew. The neice idolized her so much that she dressed up as female characters from the book. Meyer herself was a published religious author. When the religious leaders saw the fourth book and how disturbing the content was, they pulled it from the shelves of related stores. Stephanie got so mad that she claimed she received the books as visions from God, and to pull the books from shelves was akin to blasphemy.

Never forget: When Michael Sheen once starred in the Underworld series, with him even returning to play the werewolf [Lycan] Lucian in its prequel the same year he started playing Aro in New Moon, the war in there started because he and his vampire girlfriend Sonja achieved the impossible: uniting the bloodlines to make a were-pire child whose existence particularly freaked out the vampire council. 🦇 NEVER will Sheen's major role reversal in these series cease to amuse me. 😆

Fun Fact about The Twilight Saga: New Moon: During an argument between Bella and Edward in the truck outside her house, the Edward that got out of the truck was actually a double dressed like Robert Pattinson in the seat. Pattinson was actually positioned next to the camera but out of sight. After the double moved out, Pattinson stepped in front the camera. Chris Weitz pointed out that this was trick deliberately done to simulate how Edward moved in and out of the truck in an inhuman manner.

I actually ended up watching Twilight on the cinema with a friend from highschool when we had this favourite past time during weekends where we'd randomly select any movie to watch in our local cinema simply by browsing the synopsis displayed on the cinema's noticeboard. We knew nothing about the Twilight novel craze and the noticeboard basically only mentioned the movie having something to do with a modern world where humans and vampires co-exist together so we naturally thought it was going to be like Angel (TV series) as opposed to being a full-blown teen romance drama. Goes without saying, I fell asleep through certain parts of the film and when the credits started rolling after the two went to the prom, I was immediately surprised and thought, "Wait, that's all? So that underwhelming fight scene where the Cullens ganged up on that one vampire was already the third act?" Times passed, and I would find myself not being alone when I started actively browsing online and finding how many people ridiculed this movie and the franchise. I do however think Bella's dad is overall the best, coolest, and only reasonable character in the entire saga. I'd zealously watch/read a spinoff centers around him where he kicks vampires and werewolves' asses all the while being a mere human. Also, that uncanny CGI face on baby Nessie really, really doesn't age well these days.

He taught the likes of Brandon Sanderson, who in turn took over the class when Farland retired. Anyway, Stephenie Meyer was another famous name who took Farland’s class. And during the whole Twilight craze, Dave was known to have mentioned to several of his other students (who my husband knows) that Meyer was a C student at best. Then again, she is a C student who sleeps on gold bars and can wipe her ass with $100 bills. So she definitely did something right. Wasn’t the writing, though.

I remember my classmates getting into Twilight when I was in school, but because I wasn't really into books at the time (or vampires) I never gave it a chance or a second thought. It seems that was the right choice.

8:10 Since having not watched these film in a long time, I actually didn't really understand this part and I actually thought he was going to die or something but as I've realised since coming back to watch these scenes, the Volturi's intention was to keep the vampire's existence a secret, I think it was so that Bella couldn't risk it so that Edward couldn't get killed which was also why she had to protect her father and keep him from knowing she was a vampire also. But here's my question: How is it that the Volturi were trying to keep their race a secret when they also have humans as their servants?

One thing that I find the most hilarious about Twilight is how, over this past decade and a half most of its fans have abandoned it. They ridicule just as hard, if not harder than those of use that disliked it from the beginning. Why? Because they grew up and realized it's romanticizing an extremely toxic and abusive relationship between an unstable teenager with no agency or self preservation and a literal predatory stalker more than twice her age and constantly shows controlling, degrading and manipulative behavior.

That's what happens with YA novels. Like how so many of us grew up with Harry Potter, then read J.K. Rowling's Twitter, and suddenly all the centrist neoliberal subtext came rising to the top of those books 😐

@@jacksonteller3973 Harry Potter is still good, sure, but its flaws are more readily apparent now. Like, the wizarding world is rife with backwards thinking, ignorance, and arrogance, but at the end of everything, none of its institutions have really changed - sure, they finally have a competent Minister of Magic, but they all still live in hiding, they still view Muggles as a quaint curiosity, and the divisive Hogwarts house system is still in place. It wasn't about making progress, it was about getting everything "back to normal", as if that'd do anything to prevent a monster like Voldemort from attaining power again. That attitude is, like, aggressively neoliberal to its core.

As a former teenage fan, I now understand the hate about the toxic relationships but one thing I still do not understand how everyone hated that they sparkled and weren’t like true vampires. Here’s the thing. The true vampire we think of is an undead person who burns in sunlight, turns into a bat, and sleeps in a coffin has no actual basis in mythology. Rather it’s a Bram Stroker drawing inspiration from vampiric like creatures from Irish and Romanian mythology and creating the vampire we know as Dracula. Every culture has their own interpretation of a vampire which means there is no set mythology for them. Even drinking blood is not universal because some vampires drink seminal fluid or psychic energy. Stephanie Meyer is just another author creating her own interpretation of a vampire. Also as much as people like to say that these vampires suck, they’re virtually indestructible and are immune to sunlight. Some have special powers. They can easily take down Dracula.

Having been a teenage girl when the twilight movies came out, watching them in theaters, was a real treat. The fact that all the girls collectively side when Jacob took his shirt off, and were screaming in horror when they saw Edward and his little bit of chest fuzz… That was amazing I was super sad that I didn’t see the third or fourth and fifth movies in theaters, but now I feel better ☺️

My grandma really loves these movies so whenever I visit for the holidays, she asks to marathon them. She doesn't really hold still though. She'll get up to go to the bathroom, make herself a snack, leave the room to take a phone call, etc. So whenever she leaves the room, I'll skip ahead a few chapters on the DVD. Then she comes back and is like 'oh, we're on this scene already?' And I just tell her she was gone a while. I've been doing it for years and she's never caught on. I don't want to tell her how much I hate them because she's such a big fan but it's a lot.

My Grandmother asked me what I thought about these books and mentioned that her book club was thinking about reading them. I sat there for about 10 seconds, stone-faced as Bea Arthur in the Golden Girls, before muttering something about The Hunger Games being a far superior YA literary entry for them to pursue. My unspoken reaction came straight from Bea Arthur-“Why do I feel like I just fell through the Looking Glass???”

Being an odd teen (who grew up into an even odder adult), I was fine with the whole werewolf, vampire, human combo. My problem was that I did the math between the ages of Edward and Bella got creeped out so I never saw the movies in theaters. Of course the "baby's" appearance kind of sealed the deal of me being creeped out. Now I can appreciate this series as party entertainment: yelling at the screen, trying to count how many scenes Jacob's shirt came off and the hardest one of all, counting the scenes where Bella had a wide smile (think that it was a one-digit number).

This franchise would be a lot more interesting, and would turn into a psychological horror, if it were told from Charlie's perspective. The movie was amazing to watch in theaters because of how the entire audience reacted in unison, and not always how you thought that they would. The audible, collective psi, when Jacob took off his shirt and new moon, and the screams of horror, and discussed when Edward took off his shirt, and then put on the road and had a little bit of hair showing. Omg, we were awful while judging the shit going on in those movies. Sorry I gave you so much shit that you didn’t deserve, Robert Patterson. And sorry to all of the actors for blaming you all for the awful movies. It turns out that it was just a sucky book that y’all got sucked into making a movie of

Fun fact (unless somebody else mentioned it): Jennifer Lawrence had auditioned for the role of Bella, with it eventually going to Kristen Stewart. I'd like to think maybe J-Law dodged a bullet staying away from these films, but I also think it'd be hilarious living in that alternate reality and seeing her go from muttering "It's like diamonds: you're beautiful...", to yelling "YOU NICKNAMED MY DAUGHTER AFTER THE LOCH NESS MONSTER?!".

His spirit doesn't appear. She's hallucinating. Also Aro's weird laugh was Michael Sheen's idea - he thought that after living for thousands of years, Aro was mostly monumentally bored and had seen everything there was to be seen. Only to be presented with this suddenly very new thing that none of them were aware could happen, and his excitement bubbles over in to this horribly awkward laugh. I guess experiencing thousands of years of boredom and then suddenly being presented with something entirely new would get a weird reaction out of a person.

According to an article, Executive Meddling at Paramount was originally planning to turn Twilight into a far more action-heavy movie - something of a high school-set version of Underworld - in order to bring in more male viewers. Bella was made into a far more active character (she was written as a track star) who fought back against the vampires, and gets turned into one herself in the first movie. Anyone Can Die was in full effect, with Bella's dad dying by the end of the movie. A Korean FBI vampire hunter was introduced as an antagonist, and one scene had vampires picking off members of a SWAT team sent into a forest after them, while Edward was a Blade-type vampire. An Executive Veto from Stephenie Meyer put the kibosh on this, and the resulting adaptation by Summit was made far more faithful to the novel.
