I don't think they had anything to do with the homicide itself. Anyone with kids can probably relate (at least a little.) Yea, a lot of people give defense lawyers shit for the people they have to defend as if they always wanted to defend pieces of shite as their dream job since childhood or something, but for the majority of them, it’s a job that someone has to do. Like a dirty job, basically - things normal people wouldn’t want to do or couldn’t bring themselves to do, but a job that has to be done no matter what because everyone in the US deserves the right to a fair trial. No matter how heinous, they have a right to be represented. The people going into that field know they’re taking a risk and know that a lot of their cases will be lost, but they have to pretend to try. Seeing that grown man stand there next to his client in tears as the mother read her victim impact statement I think says it all, and he probably felt a lot of pain and guilt himself for having to defend such a POS. I don’t think he’s losing sleep for losing that case for his client at all, and I wouldn’t blame him one bit if he breathed a sigh of relief that the verdict was given in the manner that it was. As for the parents, I think it’s safe to say that connections played a part. They knew someone somewhere that lightened that slap on the wrist even more. Makes you wonder what else has been covered up with that bunch.

I've heard of cases where they tell the family of the victim to remain calm and respectful towards to POS during their victim impact statement (pardon if that's not the proper term) and that is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS! They have every single right to say WHATEVER they feel! I'm so glad she was able to get that out. I wish she was able to take some of her rage out on him properly!

That video was their sentencing. The never, and i mean not one single time, even attempted to apologize or do the right thing. They have never said a word! They laughed in our faces at court for 19 months! Laughing at her mother's pain, laughing at all of us that loved her.

Someone always says this about people who get caught for anything. What evidence is this based on? If they were socio/psychopaths, they wouldn't have helped their son, because it was entirely to their detriment, and he, as someone who IS likely a manipulative psychopath, appealed to their empathy, and begged and pleaded for their help. And they were very stupid and helped him. That's why they put up with him their whole lives. That's not how psychopaths act...it just isn't. They likely had empathy, and they likely felt bad for what they did. Doesn't make it OK, doesn't mean they should've done it, doesn't mean they aren't bad people for doing it. There's no specific reason to think they don't actually feel bad about what they did. It's human nature to do stupid shit and feel bad for it. Yep - even really really, really, awful stuff. Especially when a family member is emotionally manipulating you into doing it. Not an excuse, just an explanation.

They typically don't allow you to berate the victim and her mother expertly avoided doing so. She yelled but everything she said was about her own feelings and experiences. It was surprisingly measured which is why I expect the court allowed it.

I'm assuming based on the fact they burned some of the remains, and apparently just hadn't yet gotten to the others, but I assume it was their intention to burn them as well, that - not to be too morbid - I don't think there other remains existing that weren't just scattered ashes/pieces left over from burning them. It's definitely salt in the wound of already having killed her though, to put it lightly.

Knowing that, at any time, on any day, until you die, you could get a call saying "we've found another piece of Ashley" must be horrible - there's no end in site for this ordeal, no completion, no closure. I don't know how her friends and family will move on.
