New to macrame? This is the ultimate pattern for you!
When I first started macrame several years ago, the very first project I ever made was a macrame feather. When I looked up things to make, it seemed like a minimalistic design that didn't require a huge commitment and long hours to create. Plus, the beautiful bohemian aesthetic of the feathers was a huge bonus.
Macrame feathers are super versatile. You can make them in various sizes and use them on their own or incorporate them into larger projects. Not to mention, they are super fun to make!
This feather is made with the 3 basic knots of macrame: the Lark's Head knot, the Square knot and the Double Half Hitch knot. Once you know these 3 knots, you can make most macrame patterns you see.

03:15 - Step #1: Attach 6 x 225 cm strands of cord onto the dowel using Lark's Head knots.
03:39 - Step #2: Start your first Double Diamond pattern with two upside-down V-shaped Double Half Hitch ("DHH") knot rows.
05:46 - Step #3: Make a Square knot with the middle 4 cords, thread a bead through the middle 2 cords, And repeat for a Square knot underneath.
06:48 - Step #4: Close off the inner Diamond pattern with a V-shaped row of DHH knots.
08:19 - Step #5: Take a strand of 35 cm cord and attach one onto the far-right and far-left cords with a Reverse Lark's Head knot. Then close the outer Diamond.
09:54 - Step #6: Separate out the far-left and far-right cords and with the middle group of cords, make a Double Diamond pattern.
12:03 - Step #7: Repeat 2 more Double Diamond patterns below with 2 fewer cords every time.
12:25 - Step #8: Trim off the excess fringe.
13:09 - Step #9: Attach scraps or new strands of cord at approximately 35 cm long onto
the side loops of the feather using Reverse Lark's Head knots (2 or 3 knots per loop).
14:37 - Step #10: Comb through and shape the fringe.
15:54 - Outro
