Learn how to install cabinet knobs the right way.
I will show you how to install cabinet knobs the right way in this video tutorial. If you install cabinet knobs in the wrong locations on your cabinets, the end result may make you unhappy. The improper location of knobs can make an entire room look ‘off’. You may not be able to recognize the problem right away but you will after viewing this video. I see them installed in the wrong location all the time. So, let’s talk about cabinet knobs, their placement and how to install them properly. Anyone can do this correctly.
What if mine are installed wrong?
If you inherit this problem as a result of a new home purchase, you can always fill the existing knob holes with blend-fil and start over! This product will allow you to match your current cabinet stain and blend in seamlessly with your cabinet doors. It’s very easy to apply to apply to cabinetry, holds up to abuse, and you will be happy with the results. Best yet, it will be the most inexpensive purchase associated with the job.

Very good video. One point, I had a problem addressing the short screw issue in one of my drawers when I drilled a larger hole from the inside of the drawer. Over time, the cheap wood kept chipping away and I struggled to keep tension on the knob. The solution ironically was your second step on the lower drawer of using a metal washer to brace it. I actually used a couple to get to the right length needed, and it kept the drawer wood from chipping from the inside out. Cheap solution and I bought extras in case I need them for other drawers.

Turned out well I will be installing all new hardware knobs n handles i figured i only have three actual pull out drawers so i will use three handles & 8 doors which i will use the knobs on i have holes to fill in on all the doors being all them had handles on them rather have the knobs looks way better..

@@ReneeRomeo Oh, I SO relate, I do all mine myself too and gave up on salons 20 years ago when the last one left me with an actual bald spot & that was the salon I went to to correct the damage the first salon did...oh, and I did cry! lol I can laugh about it now. (mostly)

I've just installed kraftmaid painted cabinets...when cutting the kick trim the product chipped badly. we bought a new saw blade and placed painter's tape along the cut line, and recut the trim piece. this helped with the chipping but when we removed the tape the paint came off with it! I am so worried that there will be chipping when I drill holes for hardware. Do you have any suggestions?

NEVER NEVER NEVER screw the knob onto the front face of the cabinet! That will permanently scratch or etch into the front. ALWAYS screw from the back side while holding your knob in place. Doing this will prevent front damage in the event you install knobs with smaller bases later.

1975eps, There will always be an indentation on the wood due to pressure from the screw anyway so I never worry about it. Renee

Yes, especially when you’re making the hole bigger to give “wiggle room” (which I would not personally do).

It looked like the second door had the screw of the knob too long. Did you cut it back a bit?

Hi Joe, You're right. The screw is a bit too long. I just left it the length that it is but it's easy to trim the screw down if you have a vice and hacksaw. I didn't demonstrate the process because (I'm guessing) most people don't own a vice if they don't have a home workshop. Fell free to cut it away! Thanks for the great question. Hi Renee, definitely need your help with 2 questions backslash and knobs. Background: Installed kitchen cabinets (J and K cabinet J5 mahogany) and my countertop will be Solaris (little gold and copper). I have a cooper wall mount range. Appliances are stainless steel, faucet(oil rubbed bronze). Knob Question - I don't know what color knobs should I use? Backsplash Question - already have tumbled gold 3x6 and floor and decor recommended and i purchased glass champagne and lilac tile. The tumbled gold and glass lilac will be the entire stove going up to the top of the 42'' cabinet and the champagne tile will go under all the cabinets. I'll put also a gold sticks to frame over the stove. Does this glass tile mixed with the tumbled stone make sense because they are two different textures clearly I'm definitely not the designer and the lady did it should pop. I greatly appreciate your assistance. Also, I can send you pics if that would be easier. Thanks in advance.

Use your eyes. Does it look the way you want it? Now, what is the measurement of the center of the knob? Not sure get double-sided stick tape and temporarily tape several knobs in position. Now make adjustments as needed. 2" rule is ok only but is not full proof.

Robert, Great idea with the double sided tape. If the cabinets are painted (like mine), just be sure to have the paint cure before you try. This is the way that's been fool proof for me over the years. Thanks for the input, Renee

When using a one size fits all knob as you have, the stud is much too long for the door and the overage could be a problem with items in the cabinet and possibly a safety issue. I'm sure you addressed the issue by cutting the access, but might need to inform viewers. If this has already been addressed in another comment below, my apology.

Carmen C, That's an awful thing to happen to your cabinets. My suggestion is to get all new drill bits (for wood) and pre-drill smaller holes than necessary. That will give you the ability to test the stability of the paint before you drill larger holes. Beyond that, Green Frog Tape is made especially for delicate surfaces so it SOULD release just fine.
