I show the different tools and techniques used to fine tune a restoration in the metal phase before the body work is started. In this video we feature a Cuda and Challenger but these tips should work on any muscle car restoration project you are working on.

It is over the top and detailed very beautifully. My ignorance past over your video because it wasn't a Chevelle video. I maybe wrong but I don't see videos like yours I subscribed today and will be watching all of them and repeat. On the charger video that customer had no idea what you were doing or couldn't understand your service and professionalism. I appreciate you sharing with us. What a gift!

Thank you very much for the kind words. With the Charger I agree looking back I don't think he understood but also didn't want to understand. The car was too much for what he thought it was going to be and its a bad situation to be stuck in. I really hope he has got it figured out and almost to the level he wants it at. Also a Chevelle is a car I have been waiting to try and get on the channel, so hopefully one day I can build on on this youtube channel like the other cars I have been working on.

Im always amazed how poorly some of these aftermarket parts fit. These videos are invaluable (Even if people are fixing other cars) because it really shows you "reality" and at the same time what you can do. This really isnt just restoration anymore, heck it's not even just car building... it's literally art. Very cool video Rick you are the best my friend. Congrats on the 10k subs man you hit the first big milestone 🤟!

Yeah man awesome accomplishment congrats takes a hell of a lot of work. Thats awesome you got one coming up, Im getting back to work on mine ina month just need to finish a month worth of editing. Had the latest nova video come out this morning, its a rough one was a battle for a newbie like me but its "done". Probably will get destroyed in the comments for that one. I gotta love it. "Over restoring" the cars. Your dedication to your craft is amazing and it shows in the quality of the final product. I prefer an over restored car any day vs something that "looks about right ". Another quality video that I didn't have to pay for. Awesome stuff Rick.

What a great video! About to paint my brothers 70 Cuda over here in Australia. Got the usual story of its ready for paint and was previously painted black before he did some rust repairs and got an engine rebuild. Well I ran my spline blocks over it, its absolutely rubbish. One side is not too bad, but passenger side guard and door gap and profile is terrible. Your videos will help so much on this current resto in doing. Cheers

Great video here, lots of time spent fixing what the stamping plant engineers should have got right, or better, to begin with but who knows, maybe they aren't getting paid enough to care or to make it right. What is most concerning about having to slice and weld the panels in the "optimizing" process is knowing that adequate corrosion protection can be applied and reach some of the concealed and hard to reach areas on the inside. Keep rolling.....

Thanks a lot, I do actually agree with you 100%, but the lesser of two evils is the gap to be clean looking. You can also apply that same logic to each time you MIG two panels in the spot holes you will burn the weld through primer off in certain areas. The idea is do the best we can given our guidelines and hope the cars are well taken care of and last the life of the owners and then some.

Great video! When I was opening up the gap using a 3 inch rollock I found it best to use it with a 2 inch pad. When I tried using a 3 inch rollock with 3 inch pad, the pad kept getting caught in the gap and grabbing.

Dig it . FYI , the handle on the Eastwood Crt should be facing forward towards the drum , for easier stripping, better control and less body fatigue . Lots of people including me did the same thing. 😢

I found your channel days ago and have binge watched most of the E- body content. Your channel is very professional and your work is top notch! The filming is good and the attention to details is hard to find these days! In " my opinion " the only thing missing in your videos is a laugh or a smile now and then! You are very passionate about your "job" which is hard to find these days

Thanks a lot I really appreciate it. Honestly I am introverted and the camera stuff even after all this time is still challenging and I don't feel as connected to the camera as I would with someone I am comfortable around. I will try and work on it but if you ask most of the car guys I work with there is lots of sarcastic banter and tons of laughs in person, when working together and I know I am not on camera. Also to be honest there also might be the occasional yelling at the car once in a blue moon I also leave out. .....haha

Great information. Packed with details. How do you know what the proper spacing is for the rear window in the quarter panels? Won’t that change the door alignment? The bottom of the door lines up with the rocker but the top corners need to be spaced properly for the vent window, weather stripping and top of the rear quarter. Do you take measurements before? I noticed you don’t have window tracks installed. Have you ever had issues with the quarter panel window gaps? Thanks for really paying attention to detail.

The rear vent windows have plenty of adjustments in them I haven't had an issue yet with that. Same thing with the weather stripping its usually thick enough an 1/8 here and there won't bother it. I mean the door jam sets the front gap and the quarter runs the rest of the gap to the rear b pillar

Wow, this is timely for me! Awesome tutorial, Rick! I’m at this stage in the rotisserie build of my project. Aligning these panels is a bear and very time consuming, especially if one is doing it by themselves. Anyway, all this will be pulled off to be painted and my concern is getting it all back aligned again without damaging the newly applied paint. I scratched a lot of epoxy primer doing this, thus the concern. Thoughts on pinning panels for quick reassembly? Do you do any of that in your builds? Also, methods for putting panels on without damaging paint would make for a great tutorial. Thanks so much, Rick!!!

Thanks a lot for watching and commenting. Installing the painted panels I use lots of tape on the corners...but not the really sticky kind the worse tape out there just to play it safe. Also Yes I will a lot of times use panel pins on trunks and hood hinges. Drill them out where the bolt will hide them if you go that route. The reason I don't use them on the doors is a lot of times I will do final adjustments and they sometimes never line up perfect. I would also sometimes pin the in and out profile but not the back and forth on the hinges. Good luck I know the stress of installing them with paint on the panels and it is challenging.

GEESIO! When I go to car shows I spend hours looking at the gaps of all the cars to make sure they are all perfect! Shame on those Hemi cars with factory gaps that are not perfect! Obsessing over perfect gaps is stupid! Let's all pay restoration shops thousands of extra dollars to change the gaps by a 1/16 of an inch! And don't forget to tuck your ears inside your flat bill ball caps, all you members of the worldwide sheep society! DUH!

I guess good thing this car isn't built for you or too impress you for sure. Its built for what the owners want and how they want to present them. You can build your car to the quality you want 100% and if its off and not perfect its none of my business. Haha the flat bill ball cap portion of the comment shows you have even less of a clue what's going on.
