It definitely has less power and much, much more pad stalling than the corded machine. It is also slower at 5000 rpm vs 5200 on the corded. The power output reduces half way through the battery and actually limits you to speed 5 and then speed 4. I have tested all of this myself. Don’t listen to people who try to say “it’s your technic” or “it’s so smooth it feels slow” I think people are struggling to accept the facts when they love something unconditionally I guess.

Yeah, pad stall is a huge issue with HLR15 - finally got my hands on it during a local detailing show and tell, and Rupes happened to have it's expo booth there. I kid you not - with wool pad, and new Rupes XC-2 compound, it stalled on a flat panel. I pointed it out to the Rupes rep, and he told me "Oh, it is beacause of the wool, you know it drags more, with foam it is fine". I am not gonna spend almost my entire monthly salary for a tool that stalls on a flat panel, thank you very much. But the HLR75 is killer, I can highly recommend it. I love FLEX PXE-80, but it lacks in term of power with 3" 12mm orbit. The Rupes rep seen that I am a big fan, and gave me a Rupes hat and a inside tip - there will be a revamped version of the Rupes Nano ;)

I couldn't disagree more. I have both and the iBrid rips. So much so that I thought mine was defective because I could detect more vibrations all things being equal, but in reality it was just spinning way faster during the "air test".

I am a FLEX guy myself. Not sure why, I just bought the 3401 years ago (my first forced rotation) after I had a junky harbor freight polisher. I then got the FLEX KOMPAKT corded 3" polisher for smaller areas before all these new fangled battery machines were available, and then went for the PXE-80 (which to me doesn't have nearly enough torque and doesn't get the job done as well as a corded KOMPAKT! That KOMPAKT is a I've never tried a RUPES but they sure do look good. I would love to get that iBRID Nano they sell but I have the FLEX-PXE-80 so I am having a hard time justifying it because I only polish once a year probably. I am only a detailing enthusiast but I did do detailing as a side job in my younger years when I was a cop with a friend. We made OK money doing it too. Back then we used the 3M rotary (a big machine but it was a very durable and heavy duty built machine. You didn't have a lot of choices back then when it came to the polisher choices. NOTHING like it is today with THOUSANDS of different detailing products! New polishers everywhere, with new ones being released almost daily. SEMA each year is a plethora of new detailing products which I love. Each year, more and more detailing products and new companies starting up almost daily. The choices are almost endless now with polishers in every price category. Even Harbor Freight has upped their game with a cordless polisher and other decent wide throw machines and other machines. Nothing like a FLEX or RUPES, but decent for the weekend home detailer! I always seem to go back to my KOMPAKT although it's corded. That little machine is one of the best machines out there. Very versatile and you can put a 5" backing plate on it in a pinch and switch the backing plate easily allowing you to polish with 1", 2", 3", and 5" polishing pads depending on what situation I have. I can lay out all the pads and backing plates on a small table in my garage and then I have full access to all my pads and backing plates so I can quickly switch the plates and pads on the fly to handle all the intricate places to polish. The cord is a pain in the a... , but it is still a beast of a machine to polish with. I also have an SPTA 5" long throw polishing (cordless) that is a really good machine. Nice and smooth and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a polisher that doesn't want to drop the extensive money for the RUPES machine. RUPES is without a doubt a legendary polisher company for sure. Most of the higher end detailers around the world are using RUPES machines most likely. But a lot also use FLEX machines which are great also. I started with FLEX so I just stuck with them. Great review my friend. I enjoy watching your channel and I enjoy your candor. Hey Joe glad to see you here again and thanks for your kind words. Nice write up, I enjoy reading your story of machines, I had an eye on the flex kompakt for a while but havent pulled the trigger. At this point I might wait for the new Rupes Rotary that should be the next, and crossing fingers, should be same batteries than the full size bigfoot Ibrid. Cheers my friend, talk soon.

The OPM is the same between the corded and cordless machines, but how that translates to backing plate rotation is influenced somewhat by the counterweight mass and moreso between the interaction between the backing plate and shroud. Since you trimmed the shroud on your LHR15, of course the backing plate is going to spin faster on that machine. I think the remainder of the perception of it being slower is due to how much quieter and smoother the cordless machines are. Regardless, you should never be polishing at speeds 5 or 6 unless you're trying to maintain rotation on a concave surface. RUPES (and most other knowledgeable detailers) will always tell you to cut/polish around speeds 3 to 4. This minimizes heat (which actually increases cut), produces better results and prolongs pad life. I've been using both the 15 and 21mm cordless machines and have not had any need to exceed speed 4. I'm at speed 3 or 3.5 most of the time. Contrary to popular belief, backing plate rotation only accounts for about 15% of the polishing action. So even if the pad stalls, you're still getting effective correction. That said, if you're getting pad stall you likely need to tweak your technique (reduce pressure or ensure the pad is flat to the surface).

A great vid Frank as usual! All quality comes from your attention to details! I love it man. Hmm i think it can be a great machine, was looking hard into it as i need a new one (i use chinese cheap ones and they are ok but: loud as hell, have the power but throw you around, and are not super well balanced but where dirt cheap and good for learning but i've outgrown them) but still i think for my first Rupes (yeaaaas it will be my first man, i can't wait, heard some good things!) im gonna go with the MKIII you just sold, it's still super expensive here in Poland (the MK III is like 600 USD 😳, this one the cordless is like 1059 USD!!!!!!! 😮‍💨, it's sick and twisted the additional cost of them in the EU) and i am hoping for an EXCELLENT working time and experience and performance with the MKIII for this kind of price, if not i will never trust Rupes. Man i wish we had US prices here in EU for these machines. Also wanted to look into the DIY machines but at the time they will come to Poland i will grow old - i need a machine now. Cheers man!

Hey Vic, the Cordless will come down in price when they sell the ''tool only with batteries'' instead of the expensive kit. probably a drop near 200$, the kit isnt necessary anyway. It's way smoother than the mark3. The mark3 is good and all but it has some vibrations but tolerable even at heavy usage. Of course you should respect your budget, maybe you can make some money with the tool and pay off the cost. Another option, have you look into the SHINEMATE EX620 5" 15MM DA it has glowing reviews but havent used it myself. I'm sure you can find a couple ppl to polish their car and pay for your tool. I think the upsell here in Poland is a crime, i envy your pices over the pond :( even a old model as Mk3 is 600$ that hurts my pride more than my wallet, i can afford it but it's hard to justify the price, still haven't had one in my hands yet, i think ill go with the corder one as it will be my first rupes and 600$ is max that im willing to pay for a machine, still can't wait for it as of now i only have some cheap chinese made 9mm (a little higher quality still) and 21mm (cheapest one xD) Cheers brother and thank you!

Great video, thank you. FYI, for corded polishers where the power cord slides off of your shoulder, there is something called a "Detailers Cord Snap" clip. I got mine from the Miranda channel, and it works great at keeping the cord on your shoulder while allowing it to move back and forth during a polishing session.

Cheap solutions Use the Rupes cord holder Use a bit o string and and hikers hook Have it around your shoulders like a cowboy From a loop allow as much as required from each end and have the middle looped and with strap

Taking my weekend warrior to professional. I currently have a shinemate. It works, gets the job done. As long as it’s running, my first upgrade will be a smaller polisher. What’s the big difference between flex and rupes? Is it pretty much Toyota vs Honda as quality of machine? Have no desire for battery tools at this time. I would like to add a rotary for polishing/jeweling

Hey David, totally get where you're coming from. Full size rotary check out Shinemate 5'' rotary or DIY detail rotary, both excellent and light weight. For the 3inch stuff i used to have the rupes mini but never liked it. Switched over the FLEX PXE-80 couple years ago and I wouldnt change it, It has rotary 1 inch adapter, I bought an extension as well for that to get in hard to reach area when needed. The 3 inch 12mm throw is perfect for me, enough power and battery life for non-stop operation, I know you dont want battery tools but this the one I'd buy any day, the price is very close to a quality corded 3inch so it's a no brainer. Thank you John, I sold my corded not too long after. I'm in love, yes it stalls but with LC HDO pads not as bad, and when you master the tool I dont have any problem with it. cordless is freedom :)

I am a little different on Rupes pads. I enjoy using them. I do love the new polisher. Wish they would have included the white pads. I tend to use the white pad to finish with P&S Jeweling polish. Using the Milwaukee M18 as a comparison, far as price goes the Rupes kit is reasonable. I live in the US, The Milwaukee kit is just charger and two batteries is roughly 530 and probably a little more. The Rupes kit, which gives you everything you can need to start besides towels is 735. Personally, you can not have too many pads. If it was possible to post pictures. I could show the result of the complete kit on 18 year old work truck paint.

I have just bought one and coming this week. I have always used Flex machines, I have the pxe 80, the 7-15 150 random orbital cordless and the xce forced drive. I’m really looking forward to less vibrations and the light weight of the rupes.

Oh btw. I thought my tan interior was clean in my 2020 Acura RDX, hello Carpro inside mixed at 7:1 wiped off. Wow it brightened it. then rinsed using my steamer with distilled water in it. Absolutely love Koch Chemie TS

Hey thanks for watching, to answer your question, in a perfect world you should have both, 3 inch and 5 inch but everything is possible, i have not attempted to polish on a whole car with a 3inch :) If you can afford only 1 polisher get a full size 5inch machine. Remember when polishing you should work in a section no larger than 10 times your pads size for efficiency and polish performance reasons. Hope that helps.

@@Joelafrite987I have the dewalt and shine mate cordless da’s and the Rupes on order . If you want to go cordless for less I highly recommend the dewalt, it’s a beast and a couple hundred bucks cheaper.

I love the beveled edg pads , no problem with stalling and it will help a lot around mirrors and door handles
