It's always been thought that to "strip" waxes and most sealants you'd use dish soap / washing up liquid - I use a squirt of it (actually generic dish soap) if I'm doing a wash and going to re-wax or seal afterwards. I also use Purple Power Vehicle wash which is even more cost effective. Again if I'm going to re-apply I don't really care if it's going to "strip" the previous stuff off - I'm looking for max clean with min contact... Honestly for most in between washes a good car soap isn't much more expensive and adds back in some level of protection...

I dont personally use it as a soap, but DO use it as a presoak for dirty sides and for wheels, diluted 15:1. I think using dish soap got a bad rap back in the day before ceramic coatings and hybrids came out with good ph chemical protection.

My problem when he did the door I could not really tell any difference between the door he sprayed dawn on vs the rear door with just power wash spray. Could it be there is no difference? spraying on soap does nothing?

Blue Dawn is like Marvel Mystery Oil and Windex. It's just magic and works for pretty much anything you want to do. Wanna get fleas off an animal? Blue Dawn freezes them for a bit so they can be picked off.

The problem with dawn is it leaves a film that hard to rinse off.

Dang in 1994 I was 16 washing my dad's car with dawn. That's how I got into detailing lol. Obviously I've moved away from it. Then this video pops up. This may be a good option for degreasing, road grime and salt.

thank you for an interesting video, if I may make a couple of obsevations, Firstly I have been pouring solutions from the 5lt containers ( I am watching fron the UK )with the container on its side But I always pour with the back of the container upwards(the side with all the safety instuctions usageage details etc) so that any runs will spoil the front label. Secondly when you did the comparrison (on what you call the hood) I noticed that you used two different types of sponge one sponge looked like on open cell one ( on the left side) and the red/black one looke like a closed cell one This would make a difference due to the cell structure in contact with the paint work thaank you for your time in producing these videos

When i wanna know about a product, i go straight to the data sheet. Dawn has the same protective polymers as car wash. It wont hurt anything more than car soap does

Not a great idea to use dish soap on a regular basis. It strips protection and will eventually damage the finish. Most details will use something like this to intentionally strip protection when they want to decon, correct and then add protection.

Dawn strips the clear coat off your car. Painters use it to help strip oils and other contaminants before they start wet sanding the car. Do not use regularly because it will strip your clear coat.

I'd been using Dawn soap to wash my hands daily, been wrenching full time mechanic for well over 20 years. I used it to wash my vehicles for many many years already, it's good stuff. When washing your dirty hands after wrenching 8 hours, use a brush and dawn soap, works better than any product out here to clean your hands. I tried it all already, none beats Dawn.

I used dawn soap before to wash my car and works great! The only detail is that after that you need to wax your car again because the soap wash out any wax in the paint and the metal fills like a clean dish after you dry it, overall is a great grease cutter and good to remove bugs in the front.

Considering Geon tells you do a Dish soap wash to prep the paint for their coatings after polishing to get all the oils off, I think it's safe enough to use as a part of a decon wash. Helps break up all that road grim. I'm not sure if it'll be as good as some higher ph soaps like Bilt Hamber, but it's cheap and it'll do a better job then a ph neutral shampoo

If Dawn was or is the Holy Grail of Car Wash Soap, then everyone would be using it. Truth is, Dawn is great on grease and grime but will eat away at your Clear Coat. Do not ever use dishwashing detergent/soap on your vehicle. Again, if Dawn is the Best, then why has it been pushed away for decades?

Boss, this is too crazy as I just recently tried this as I ran out of my designated wheel cleaner (Adam’s Wheel and Tire Cleaner.) I decided to go against the grain on the quote on quote from the detailing world, NEVER USE DAWN DISH SOAP. Boss, this has rendered some AMAZING results to say the least. I applied tire dressing of course after however, it wasn’t the best and didn’t last. Again however, my tires and rims are STILL CLEAN! Not glossy how I like it but clean! No browning on the tires at all. FYI, this is my daily driver. Thanks for the video.

It's great on heavily oxidized gel coat, like an RV. Removes a lot of the loose surface oxidation. This way you aren't clogging up pads as quickly.
