In this video, Anthony teaches about the difference between the power of the endowment, and the presentation of the endowment; and why it is important for Latter-day Saints to recognize the difference. He also highlights changes in presentation over the years.

Excellent material! Thank you so much for teaching us through your videos and talks and podcasts and books to properly understand the endowment. Recently my husband and I were traveling to the Payson Utah temple to participate in the endowment ceremony and take some family names through. As my husband drove I read aloud from your book, The Holy Covenant. We had to pause in the reading from time to time to exclaim and marvel as you explained so beautifully these wonderful concepts about the five covenants we make with God in the temple. As we proceeded through the session I began to understand things I never had before- in almost 57 years of temple attendance. And in the Celestial Room I wept as I thanked Heavenly Father for raising you up and inspiring you to teach these truths. I can’t begin to express my gratitude to you, Brother Sweat, for how you’ve opened mine and my husbands eyes and enabled us to understand so much more fully what it truly means to “come to the temple and receive Christ”, as you stated in one of your podcasts. I also love and am trying to incorporate into my understanding the statement you made, that the purpose of the endowment is “the power and capacity to come into the presence of God and receive a fullness of his blessings.” Thank you again for providing us with such excellent, inspiring materials. I’m glad I lived long enough to gain these new understandings.

Thank you so much Bishop Anthony Sweat I learned more from your beautiful teachings. I am a new member of Latter- Day Saints since 2021 February 6 and it was memorable for me my baptism.. at my age 63th God’s calling to me to study the Book of Mormon with young Elder missionaries. And now I went already to the temple this Month of July 22nd 2023.. it was amazing what I experienced in the temple.. the presentation Endowment was so cool, and I felt the presence of Heavenly Father when I enter the temple, and when I wearing the temple garments, and all that I was wearing in the temple I felt I am a clean princess of the daughter of Heavenly Father, and I felt I received the promises of Heavenly Father.. and I promised too to God I will continue to be worthy, and I will continue to study the words of God. Amen.🙏💙

I have had apostate people throw the Masonic connection at me as if it somehow revealed a reason against Josh Smith. I like your explanation. I feel that there might be similar practices that have been passed down from an earlier time when the temple rites were in effect but had evolved in to something they had lost parts of and the meaning. Years ago I was privileged to go in to a Hindu temple and there were similarities to our own temple experience. Truth in its purity has been on the earth previously.

Hinduism stems from the Indus Valley in Northern India. Forensic Anthropologist are finding the people of that valley were most likely European. Many old manuscripts indicate that the descendents of Japheth, son of Noah, inherited the area of Germanic Europe and a group of them eventually went and settled the Indus Valley. They had extremely deep temple truths which were passed on in a form. They lost the Lord as the central figure, the commandments being necessary, and the priesthood. They were very impressive, however, in holding onto many truths.

What I have come to understand since so was young is that much of what the Masonry had came from Templar Knights who had learned, recorded and taken many ordinances from temple script in Jerusalem. Templar break offs established Masonry, this was typically an organization for self correction and navigating life towards a higher way, that these men were guided by God and establishment of a society that can meet God when He returns. This is actually a pattern in my opinion, where even with Moses, it was supposed that Moses stole the organization of the tabernacle from a combination of ancient Egyptian temple performances and military camp organization. Much of what the Egyptians had early on is like a counterfeit temple experience that resembles a pre-flood apostate temple experience, uniquely I personally feel like the true original order is close to what we have now, and in the millennial reign it may be more like it was in its true nature before long the flood. But that’s my opinion, it seems like the presentation shows a personal correspondence as well as a total human history correspondence. We can see in the presentation to what era of mankind is being described and where we are now. After this October 2022 General Conference, I took what names I had and went to the temple and for the first time in a very long time, I felt like I was better understanding the prophet because of the temple ordinances and the presentation.

Great insights Anthony! I've come to learn that the TEMPLe is really just a TEMPLate teaching us how each of us individually can ascend and come to enter the Lord's presence while in the flesh. That said, I have always had a hard time reconciling Matthew 5:34-37 with the oaths and swearing that have been and are part of the endowment. Any thoughts?
@joybischoff9558
@joybischoff9558 2 жыл бұрын
"Perform unto the Lord thine oaths" Matt. 5:33. Swearing an oath is a legal and binding contract. It is sacred and should not be used unwisely or profanely. It is against the commandments to use the Lord's name in vain but that doesn't mean there isn't a correct way to use His sacred and powerful name.
@petertaylorpedro
@petertaylorpedro 2 жыл бұрын
@@joybischoff9558 Isn't the verse 33 "perform unto the Lord thine oaths" you reference equated to verses 21 (don't kill), 27 (don't commit adultery), 31 (put away wife), 38 (eye for an eye), and lastly 43 (hate your enemies)? True that penalties associated with temple oaths have been removed from the presentation of the endowment, but I have often wondered why it is that we still swear and make oaths before God/Heaven many times throughout, all associated with the revealing of certain tokens. My reading of the Book of Mormon seems to paint the making of oaths before a Higher power in a negative light (i.e. Alma 49:27; Helaman 1:11; Mormon 3:9-10; Ether 8:13-14) - nevermind Jesus' direct injunction to "swear not at all, neither by heaven...nor by the earth...neither...by thy head", repeated in 3 Nephi 12:34-36.
@joybischoff9558
@joybischoff9558 2 жыл бұрын
@@petertaylorpedro, Okay, here we go. 😁 Alma 49, almost everything has a counterfeit. We know the devil had the black priesthood emblems. He has a counterfeit set of oaths that groups like the Gadianton Robbers used to seal themselves to the devil in his kingdom. These are opposite to oaths we make in the temple. At the time of Noah, according to my research and Nibley's writings, these oaths were being used to corrupt society, paving the way for the flood. Oops, I have to run to take care of something, ... Second comment coming.
@joybischoff9558
@joybischoff9558 2 жыл бұрын
@@petertaylorpedro (2) The next two verses are exactly the same... Counterfeit priesthood with it's evil oaths. Kishkumin was especially nasty. I've spent my life researching ancient cultures and mythologies and I have a massive amount of info showing how all cultures have pieces of the truth, some have many pieces. The restoration of the gospel brings all those pieces together. John, Elijah and Elias brought the keys to Joseph in the Kirkland temple. Those keys are all about covenants. This concept has always been understood, that there are oaths instigated by God that bind us to Him and as families, clans, kingdoms, etc. Through time, each culture would first lose it's belief in keeping God's commandments. Then, through unrighteous living, they would lose the priesthood (read D&C 121). Finally, they would reject God as the center that holds all things together (through sacred, binding oaths). Sometimes they retain a belief in God but corrupted that belief into a false god, thus, six major apostasies and other minor ones resulted. This last dispensation will not devolve into a complete apostasy although we are now rapidly losing those in step one above: they no longer believe the commandments are of God. Now, with the sealing power, the two-edged sword spoken of often in scripture, is able to cut us free from the yoke of the devil who has usurped the power over the earth for a time. As a result of the Fall, we have crucial lessons to learn as we decide to either follow good or evil with their accompanying promises. This is specifically done through keeping covenants, which are oaths (D&C 84, The Oath and Covenant of the Priesthood). Through the keeping these oaths, the devil's yoke is replaced by a protective yoke which Jesus asked us to take upon us because His yoke is easy and His burden is light. And through that means, He opens the windows of heaven and showers the sweet and refreshing waters of life upon us so we know where peace and hope come from. We can have that now during this upheaval by living the basic principles of the gospel, searching scripture and praying every day with true faith. That seed will grow and the fruit will be delicious to us.
@petertaylorpedro
@petertaylorpedro 2 жыл бұрын
@@joybischoff9558 Yeah, I totally agree with you how the adversary counterfeits everything that is of God. I also understand God works with his people through covenants that He establishes with them, not the other way around (we don't establish the covenant, we simply abide the terms or not). But if you could please show me the opposites of Alma 49:27; Helaman 1:11; Mormon 3:9-10; Ether 8:13-14 (specifically in scripture where God sanctions/approves of an individual in their swearing/taking and oath/promising with an oath BEFORE heaving and or earth), that would be greatly appreciated.

Anthony Sweat, I took a religion class from you at BYU. Why are the blood oaths and spilling of bowels no longer in the endowment ceremony? Why are washings and anointings no longer washing, but dabs of water on the head, chest, belly, genitals, yet I remember teaching that the Catholic church had gone astray by changing baptisms to just drops on the forehead. Why has the Temple ordinances changed when they were direct revelation from God's lips to Joseph's ears? Could it be that the endowment was stolen from Masonry to get people to swear blood oaths to keep the secret of polygamy safe? If they reveal the "New and Everlasting Covenant" (polygamy)
@SloanTSmart

Sorry, hit enter. But they would be Blood Atoned. Basically, this is all part of the secrecy of Polygamy that Joesph practiced privately, denounced publicly, and destroyed a printing press for printing the truth. The Temple is nothing sacred, it is a remnant of a secret sex cult.

As a fifth degree Master Mason and Temple attending Mormon, and student of Jewish and Early Christian Rites, I can say there is no masonic influence for the core of th LDS Temple Endowment. Masons use bits and pieces of ancient rites, but the purpose of Endowment is not there. So should we ask WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE ENDOWMENT? Sadly most people do not know! IF YOU KNEW YOU WOULD UNDERSTAND THE PURPOSE OF THE RESTORATION OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST IN THE LATTER DAYS.

Are you a virtual Past Master in the York Rite (capitular degrees) or a Perfect Master in the Scottish Rite (Lodge of Perfection)? I was strictly commenting about the 5th Degree thing; was not commenting to discredit anything you said regarding the Church as I am still new to everything. The procedure may change but I have not seen where the doctrine of the endowment has changed.

The Masonic ceremony is way older than the 14th century, but that being said, JS received the Endowment threw revelation not receiving it from the Masons. How long do you think it takes the average Mason to become a Master Mason, 6 Wks? My father is a Mason and it took him yrs not weeks. And he is still not a Master Mason. There is a lot more to the story you have no Idea about.

If all this glories and opportunities to inherit the highest glories of GOD have been there for years why were other races excluded?I believe even if those races were unknown or from very far worlds for Americans and founders like Joseph Smith not to have known about their existence the revelations from GOD would have made it possible to reach out to them!I am deeply disturbed by the fact that you mention couple times 'FOR EVERYONE TO APPRECIATE THE BEGINNING OF MEN'S EXISTENCE ON EARTH,TO INHERIT THE KINDOM OF GOD but no mention of something like 'but those races who werent allowed at that time'GOD had a plan for them!The moment you mentioned your PHD i reflected to what you said when you started emphasising freemansonian decency and good attributes Joseph Smith copied from them and to justify why those who dont understand this misconstrued relationship between the sacred parts of the church and those of secret organisations like Freemansons that the main aim was to find a way to defend what the church denied for so many years!Good luck!Keep this in your heart and maybe find out why GOD said'we will be saved not by deeds but by Grace!There is no single church in the world that should give itself a title of'the only true church of GOD no matter how they feel good about it,no matter how right it feels,even if indeed the true church of GOD does exists because if a church says that to people its already a deception!You mentioned it very clear Joseph Smith was a member of Freemanson-a secret organisation meant only for those famous people you proudly mentioned and thats not at all a sacred organisation.Thank you for your time.

When I attended the temple, pre 1990, I always felt ...just wrong?... when I had to enact those death penalties by slitting my throat and bowels. Don't care if they were meant realistically or metaphorically, it was just creepy and awkward. I would look at the faces of other people in the room at that moment and just kind of felt like we were all drinking the Kool aid. There was no way that came from God.

In the Hebrew Temple if you were not worthy, or revealed the secrets of the Yom Kippur Rites, do you know what the penalty is? It makes the LDS penalties seem mild. Do not mock God!

The claim, originally, is that the temple endowment is of ancient origins, even since Adam, then from Salomon to masonic rituals. JS, rescued these ceremonies vital for the salvation of the faithful, he restored the true way to administer the key points of the endowment. Well, no one among lds apologist today will say that this is true. In fact these lds temple ceremonies are just faithful copy of masonry, and are definitely not ancient. This will only mean JS only took them from the masons, period. Nit given by revelation from god.

We share a number of components with the masonic ritual, which is largely coincidental. There are key aspects of our ceremony which we don't share with masonry, but is expounded in great detail in early Christian writing. So the significant doctrines unique to our theology were understood and taught prior to the creeds. You're wrong.

@@fightswordradio3735 show your sources. Let me enlighten myself. “...which are merely coincidental..” prove it! Members of this group of people are used to be fed words from the up echelon and they are taken as “the word of god.” No other thing is required, but believe. So, these people have become numb to questioning their leaders, they left reason and common sense tight up at the gate of knowledge, asking questions “is of the devil.” Give me your sources where it states that these temple ceremonies have been in used before the creeds. See, i don’t go by what am told, i prove all things, i get to the bottom of every issue at hand. The lds temple ceremonies have been taken by JS from masonry. They are not of ancient origen and in the beginning as acted out in the first lds temple of Kirkland, Ohio, word by word was taken from masonic rituals. I can prove it!!

I think it is interesting to look at most all religions and see overlap or similar beliefs, ideals and symbolism. It would not be hard to believe that the Masonic has a lot of similarities. The bottom line for me is: Is Joseph Smith truly a Prophet called of God and did he translate the Book of Mormon? If this is true--what else matters. If it is not true--then who cares.

@@jeanniejohnson5492 bad news for you. It’s conclusively proven JS book is a 19th century book of fiction pulled out straight from his environment. He is Nephi, he is Mormon, whom at a tender age was confided some hidden records. Lehi’s dream is actually the dream of J S senior and so on and on. Come on man!! Wake up!!!!

The issue that bugs me with changes in the temple endowment is like when Mormons say it’s less sexist today. It’s like maybe but that same god that’s less sexist today had it worded differently in the past. And endowments took much longer in the past. It’s like without reading the script for the early or previous versions how can you ever learn about them? You can’t do an intellectual comparison.

Yess i totally understand you and this is a very important question. Honestly alot of things in the history of the church just has to do with the culture of the time, I wish so much that prophets and people were not affected by the world but that's exactly what happened with blacks and the priesthood. God is working with imperfect people that come to things with their own biases occasionally. So I am so so glad that the church is all about modern revelation and changing policies when we realize that we were just being ignorant!
