People take it for granted but Marty is a great teacher in the sense that he’s patient enough to teach a song or concept to people who don’t already know it.

There's a reason he's one of the best guitar teachers of all time, for sure!

Marty is The MAN!!! He has taught me so much and deserves everything that can be afforded to him by companies like Epiphone and Gibson and everyone else who sells guitars.

Long story. I'm 67. After The Beatles got to the states in 64 that was it for me. 2 years later when I turned 10, my uncle gave me his electric Japanese, Teisco guitar. I still have a faded picture of me holding it. I didn't have an amp but started taking lessons. Mary had a little lamb stuff. Kept at it for a while but before I could barely form basic open chords, my teacher had me starting to read sheet music notation. He might as well been trying to teach me French. So I gave up. In high school I got a hold of a Sears acoustic guitar. I remembered all the open chords and would buy chord books for whoever, Beatles, CSNY etc and I could not make any barre chords. Gave up again (I still have both of those guitars btw). When I fully retired about 7 years ago I bought an Epiphone Les Paul and an amp and started searchiing on youtube. I can say with full certainty the Marty has helped me evolve into an intermediate player. There are other teachers I watch of course but Marty is the best. Hands down. I now own 7 guitars lol

Marty, you are SPOT ON, with your comments about guitar teachers. I’m 61 and I started playing when I was 10. My first guitar teacher was teaching me Row Row Row Your Boat and I wanted to learn Led Zepplin! Nope! I quit after a couple months. Thru the years I tried two other rounds of lessons, and they were equally as uninspiring. So until about 3 or 4, most of what I learned was either self taught or tips from friends. Now, I love learning songs from so you on your YT channel, so thank you so much for all you do. And, though I’ve learned more in the last few years, in any time before, I sure wish like hell I would have found a good teacher and stayed with it, way back when I was young.

The part about his friend staying with him on the phone so that Marty would not fall asleep while driving back home at night really surprised me. That kind of detail tells you when a person cares about you.

I love Marty's energy and knowledge. I'm a guitar player from the 60s and log on often to learn the old songs (and some newer ones) with old fingers. Thank you. Thank you.

QUESTION to Marty: what is the best way to learn to play lead guitar or at least fill licks? I’ve played for 50 years, know a few riffs, plus all 5 positions of pentatonic scale, as well as the notes in the fret board. I practice and play everyday and keep waiting for. Light to go on and it to all suddenly make sense, but it hasn’t. H Now, at 61, my memory isn’t what it used to be and my fingers don’t as easily go to where I want them to. But I’ve always had an ear for music, good rhythm and very natural strumming techniques. I play more now, than ever before, but I feel stuck. Would love to know your thoughts.

Hello Marty ! I know this is not the most technical song in the world ( but a great one!) but thanks to your tuto , I manage to play " the times they're a changin" Is there any possibility to have a quick lesson for " When the ship comes in"? Salutations from France. Keep on rockin' Marty!👍

'Enticing' and 'embracing' describes Marty's way of teaching. I find the core of what I need to get from many of his lessons are a one shot deal (yea, I do need to reinforce some of the structure of material). Marty's stuff sticks!

Marty where's that yoke that you affix to the guitar neck I think it has like color buttons and when you press one of them it creates the chord ?
