Love the fact the maybe ONE, SINGULAR time in all of 40K that Tsheentch actually gives a boon with zero drawbacks or back stabbing, and it still ends badly. Actually hilarious, I bet he was giggling hysterically as he watched.

One thing to mention about Khorne’s backup plan is that he’s already stuck with it, he originally didn’t want the World Eaters but instead wantred the blood angels, but unfortunately for him Sanguinus was Sanguinius and that ruined his plan A

I'm not sure I buy the backup plan notion so much as the Chaos gods simply want *more*. Think about Khorne as an example- he went for Sanguinius and the Angels, got shot down, pretty much owned Angron & the World Eaters, but still chased after Dorn during the siege. Out of universe, though, it makes perfect sense for GW to give people other options for different flavors of CSM warbands to appeal to folks with different tastes- personally, while the whole space Egypt theme of the T-sons isn't necessarily my jam, the idea of a bunch of gibbering batshit crazy chaos sorcerers sounds like a lot of fun.

I could be wrong, but I thought the Flawless Host's whole shtick was wanting the best win ratio in the galaxy, which is why when they choose to attack somewhere, it's the least defended imperial garrisons in the galaxy. Their "Flawless" streak after falling to chaos was ruined upon their first encounter with the Red Scorpions. The Flawless Host would then declare the Red Scorpions to be their arch enemies for "tarnishing their glory"

They may be Tzeentch's second choice, but you're my first choice Arthur.

This video is cool and expands on the warbands of Tzeentch but I thin it would also be cool if you ever made a video covering Ahriman's warband and all the shenanigans it went into.

I didn't even know there was subsection factions of chaos Marines. I just thought it was each warband per god. Not like a bunch of little ones that vary. I like chaos a ton more now :D

These dudes were the most fun chaos subfaction to play. Sticking a lascannon in each infantry squad made heavy armor focused enemies easy to deal with, if you played your cards right. The playstyle fit for a Tzeench adjacent faction

As a note on the plan B warbands, the Red Corsairs to some extent feel like they might be a plan B to the Black Legion, being chaos undivided with expanding territory operating out of a tear in reality and having near enough full legion strength in terms of numbers

These are pretty cool marines, but imo they deserve a bigger role in the setting.

I miss the supplement rules for making your own warband, chapter and the small warbands like the scourge it dont have to be good its just cool that there was rules

I always appreciated the concept of the scourged. In my head cannon I had created a concept of kitbashing some Scourge Bezerkers that would be in my warband of khorne army. Indeed, I'm a world eaters army player, but reading into the lore and finding that they're all splintered warbands really had me thinking about making a fractured but whole army of khornate bezerkers. I always felt that given their talent of knowing who was lying to them would lead them to many paths and I thought it would be unique to see that some of these warriors instead of going insane or instead of following tzeentch just got really pissed that all anyone would do is use them for different ends and always lie and manipulate them. Instead of incorporating different warbands into a khorne army I'm holding off on that whole project, partly because most of the army is complete, but it's still something that kicks around in my head cannon. When I've been toiling away in a warehouse or packing orders in retail, I'd always think of the travels of these guys that just want people who align with their ideals and treat them with respect instead of lying/manipulating them. I really ought to write some fanfiction, I just loved that concept that they have this unique ability and everywhere they go, they just find more lies. Really makes you wonder who they would ally with just based on telling the truth.

I like the Chaos God second choice theory because it’s grounded in absolute fact the Chaos Gods had backups or alternatives set up every time they wanted a legion/chapter/primarch Khorne wanted the Blood Angels and Sanguinuis but settled for the World Eaters. It’s not a stretch to assume the other Chaos Gods had other primarchs in mind for their hosts but settled for who they could corrupt. I think it’s a matter of if the individual god invests more than 1% attention to who they want they’d get them but with the whole great game going on strong willed individuals and the mortally pure can overcome (or at least resist) chaos temptations. Mortarian was in the warp when he got the space cooties so it was easier for him to be corrupted. Fulgrim had the bad dragon sword that literally talked to him all the time. Magnus in desperation asked the gods for help after the rubric. If you aren’t down horrendous and outside the warp as long as the chaos god isn’t directly interacting with you it’s possible to resist, hence having other demons talking to other primarchs/chapters/legions trying to turn them if they couldn’t get the big prize.

6:10 The Flawless Host aren't really obsessed with conquering planets (though they do it a lot), but rather Slaanesh's very own purity squad, utterly obsessed with their own view of beauty- They carry out planetary scale exterminations of planets such as Vilidad and sedennis simply because the populace wasn't pretty enough (after losing such conflicts, they would rather retreat in order to avoid damaging their own beauty, of course), and they slaughtered the nobles of mortwald on Vigilus not for their depravity, but for not being depraved enough. Basically they're drugged up pretty boys who thought to themselves one day "The galaxy would be a better place without ugly people and posers" and decided to put that thought into action. They're my army of choice, though I mostly use Emperor's children rules and units for them- that's what they were originally and there's nothing in the newer fluff that explicitly contradicts it.

i like chaos having backups but lets not forget that the World Eaters are the back up. Khornes first choice was and still is the Blood Angels.

I think it’s less that the gods have backup plans and more that they are complex entities and their main legions don’t quite scratch all of their various itches. Khorne loves his berserkers, but he also needs competent and honorable warriors. Slaanesh needs junkies and whores, but she also needs perfectionists and artists.

I think the Scourged were more of an alternative for players to paint up and be a bit more distinct, rather than just have the main four chaos god warbands. Still a nice video!

I think you're right about Tzeentch's "second choice", and that it's the Thousand Sons and not the Scourged. (I mean, the Alpha Legion might not worship Tzeentch, and may well even be the doom of many of It's projects, but ... I mean .... c'mon .... we all know Tzeentch loves them First, and Last, and Best)

Lamenters are Thousand Sons painted Yellow, as well Thousand Sons and Tzeentch Chaos Space Marines are Lamenters Painted Blue. They all get fucked just because of "reasons". Even that a lot of these Legions have some Characters that are cool and all, their destiny is to be running in circles and being mislead by eternity, just because that is how Tzeentch operates... Like Ahriman never finding the cure to the Rubric Marines, but a new character that doesn't have a lot of lore can in fact cure these afflictions and rubs out in his face. Tragic but that is what GW does with them.

I would prefer if gods create the backup chapters/legion that are made up of non of legion marines. Kinda like Red Corsairs for each god. We all know that World Eaters recruit everyone and everything that kills, then call it a World Eater if it speaks nagrakali and or has Angron’s geneseed. That is close to my idea, only that the plan B should or could have little to nothing in common with chaos God’s main/chosen legion. Brazen Beasts and World Eaters are a good example, their plan B should be similar, as they worship Khorne and want skulls, but are made up mostly of marines that turned to chaos or were corrupted, and do not have World Eaters culture, and instead are more mechanicus like. But they don’t have to be world eaters. They can still operate more like a chapter than legion, or be little angrier Red Corsairs that worship Khorne specifically. Same with other gods. Each is given their own „red corsairs” that worship them individually but are made up of all types of marines and until their main legions do not focus on primarchs or wha the legions are all about. World Eater’s plan B could for example not have their marines use Butchers Nails, what would make them more reasonable than World Eaters during combat but not nearly as dangerous. Thousand Sons plan B could have many wizards, but none of their non wizard marines are rubrics, just regular marines. Slaanesh plan B could still be obsessed with something, but it could be no decadence or perfection, but for example spreading Slaanesh’s influence by crusading and taking over as many planets as possible. Nurgle’s Plan B could have bunch of plague marines but not all of them would have to turn into them and so on.

As a Blood ravens player. I am disappointed

Philosophically, I've always felt that Tzeentch and Nurgle are two sides of the same coin. Compare the Scourged with a similar warband, the Purge; they're both Chaos warbands with a monogod focus, and they're both been driven to madness by their hyper-moralistic sense of honor. Despite being diametrically opposed theologically, they've both reached the same conclusion: humanity must be wiped out for its transgressions.

Regular space marines should be orders of magnitude more intelligent than regular people and should know when people are lying anyways. Knowledge that the imperium is a hell hole isn't new and that ability shouldn't drive a space marine insane given their increased mental durability. A better story would be them getting that power, the inquisition becoming paranoid about them then engineering the downfall of the chapter. However, a space marine shouldn't have to sully themselves by speaking more than a couple words to an inquisitor anyways. I imagine them being extremely un talkative as it is, less so to something as benieth them such as people.

Obviously I'm not a filthy heretic (in fact I'm so not a heretic I follow the Imperial Truth and the Imperial Creed at the same time!) but if I *were* going to be a lame edgelord and side with one of the Ruinous Powers, I would pick Tzeentch. He's gonna fuck with you whether you worship him or not, so you may as well pick Tzeentch and at least get some magic out of it if you're gonna make yourself the thrall of a daemon god. Nurglite cultists: stinky and gross Khornate cultists: stupidly aggro, liable to murder each other, no chill Slaaneshi cultists: super gay Tzeentch: crazy wizards I'm mentally ill (according to some silly shrinks, buncha know-it-all silly gooses, they don't know SHIT, I'm NOT CRAZY GOD DAMN IT!) already, may as well be a wizard while I'm at it.
