Host, David R. Jones, President of the Community Service Society of New York, discusses racism with Derrick Bell, author and New York University Law Professor. Bell outlines current racism issues facing minorities in the U.S. He explains that racism not only hurts the targeted population, but also hurts the majority population. Bell asks viewers to individually protest racism with integrity, and Jones adds that he hopes the U.S. learns to strengthen and seek contributions of all citizens.

@@ax2643 Brilliant retort. You're the poster child for the meme that states 'everyone who disagrees with me is a racist.' Bell argues that America is racist to it's core. Here's a couple of quotes from The Permanence of Racism: _"Whites are rallied on the basis of racial pride and patriotism to accept their often lowly lot in life, and encouraged to vent their frustration by opposing any serious advancement by blacks. Crucial to this situation is the unstated understanding by the mass of whites that they will accept large disparities in economic opportunity in respect to other whites as long as they have a priority over blacks and other people of color for access to the few opportunities available."_ _"many people will find it difficult to embrace my assumption that racism is a permanent component of American life."_ What he's arguing, in essence, is that white people are intrinsically racist, which is an _obviously_ racist statement in itself. How about arguing in good faith, instead of calling everyone a racist?

Amazing! What a contrast between what he stood for and how CRT is being characterized today. Really, unfortunate that he isn't here today to defend his work and to center the economic struggle to our racial discourse and the building of effective coalitions. Furthermore, a Black man, like the Black men I know from my "lived" experience, Derrick Bell, stood up for his Black women colleagues while risking his own personal career. Shades of Michael Smith's defense of Jemele Hill. What a life well lived!

Since they have very different perspectives and approaches it would benefit anyone to read both. At least before you turn down a job at Harvard or become disruptive at your job because of a fundamental attribution error concerning your "racist" colleagues and employers. Sowells books are full of historical examples and international examples of labor markets, racially targeted laws, racial and cultural prejudices, economic inequalities, education and literacy rates, and how groups moved through or spread through economic classes in single generations. Keep the rabid neoliberal ideology to yourself. Social systems and institutions are, in fact, capable of failing people. People are, in fact, capable of failing eachother. Black people have, on average, a twelfth of the household wealth as what white people have, on average. This isn't because of welfare, nor is it because of "personal failings," as is obvious if we apply the laws of large numbers.

@@davidmoser1103 takes the father out of the home. It's proven that children raised in a family atmosphere with mother and father do far better in school and in life in general. Children raised without fathers that have no respect for any authority or anything else and Hard for a teacher to do their job.
