I am a retired ase master truck tech and early in my career I worked for a Dodge dealership and ended up leaving for these same kind of issues. The rest of my career was working for private and corporate repair shops but not dealerships and I never had those kind of problems again. Note: My second job right out of school was for a Mack dealer and I didn't experience any crap there either.

You covered exactly what I say about working as a mechanic at a dealerships, all the little in between things you don't get payed for, and all the mistakes that cost you money and time.

i am an ase master tech i work for an independent have been at this place for 11 years. They have 2 shops about 12 techs and they are great guys to work for. They are honest take good care of us and the customer. i have never worked at a dealer because i have heard so many stories just like this

40 years ive never heard of this. but then again id never work for a dealership. i love what i do but i hate the reputation the industry has got and well alot is deserved.........

I heard about the shaky deals in dealer shops I never worked in them ever mostly mom & pop places even that gets shaky they are all out trying to screw everyone even mechanics !

This is bullshit when I worked at the dealership I never had anything to do with cost of parts the parts department put it on the work order and I put my time on the work order and you use your time cards to keep track of your billed time

The time you "punch" into on a work order isn't what your getting paid, that tells the Manufacturer how long it is taking for you and other techs to do a job. For example if a "2 hour" job only takes you .5 hours, you and other techs punch only ".5 hours" the Manufacturer will see that they are over paying and cut the labor rate down to .5 to .3 hours. When I worked at a dealership if you actually finished a job quickly it got tricky trying to punch enough time onto the repair order. Its a wonderful system were you are punished for being "efficient". Unless you were getting paid "straight time"(you are either lucky or a lubbie) this is what you were punching time for.
