Sonequa Martin Green (Sasha) had originally auditioned for the role of Michonne. Although she didn't get it, they loved her so much in her audition that they created the character of Sasha specifically for her. Now that's what I call making a great impression...

Oh, and yeah, the Governor is sooo much worse in the comics 🤢. That Governor/Michonne beef is WILD, and whenever I think about what he did to her, I literally gdt nauseous. Michonne's get back, as brutal as it was, felt so good. I'm really glad that they didn't go that route and that they changed the character because he is a far more interesting character/villain with more depth than just some power-tripping, sadistic psycho...

So with Glenn, they didn't do anything to him initially, but he was forced to listen to The Governor brutally rape Michonne in the dark room/"cell" right next to his probably for hours, the same way Maggie was forced to listen to Glenn get brutally beaten in the show, while Rick was in the infirmary getting his nub treated. Glenn is all alone, terrified, and traumatized by everything that was happening. He gets taken out of his cell and in put into The Governor's for him to question him him. Glenn wouldn't speak at first, still almost catatonic from the trauma, gets dragged out. When The Governor questioned him and he didn't respond, he punched Glenn. The Govenor basically threatened to go at Michonne again (confirming that it was her that he was hearing next to him) to make him listen, and Glenn finally broke and gave up the prison to make The Governor stop hurting Michonne...

She didn't see the heads until after Michonne left. Now, I might get flack as usual for defending Andrea, but again, I can see things from her perspective in that scene with Michonne. Woodbury is seeming getting invaded and attacked, from her perspective, by a group of violent prisoners. Innocent people are getting hurt, shooting at people, etc. She shows up at The Governors in the midst of the chaos, and Michonne is about to decapitate him. So, from Andrea's perspective, Michonne just went out there, got a bunch of prisoners, came back to attack Woodbury, and to kill The Governor... Here's the thing, Michonne does nothing and says nothing to refute it. Instead of explaining what's was happening, she just left. Before Michonne left Woodbury the first time, Andrea was said she felt Michonne had become a cold, hostile, paranoid person who's losing it from being "out there" too long and the culture shock of being dropped into a place after everything she'd been through in "the wild". Why? Because Michonne wouldn't actually EXPLAIN anything. Just vague answers like. And the time she DID speak on something, it was about them not being able to leave, and she was immediately proven "wrong". So, in that stand-off, Michonne, once again, doesn't explain anything to Andrea about what is actually happening, and it makes it seem like Michonne really DID lose it. She could have told Andrea that he sent Merle and others to have her killed after she left, hunting her in the woods. She could have even shown the bullet wound she got to prove it. She could have mentioned that Merle kidnapped two innocent people after she escaped and hid, to take back to the Governor as their prisoners, and the people out there are actually trying to just rescue their people from him. But she's just silent and leaves, making the situation look even worse on her end from Andrea's perspective. Being the strong, "silent" type may have been how Michonne has survived, but her silence isn't putting her in the favor of people that she wants to trust her. Look at the situation with Rick. She got them into Woodbury but then abandoned them without a word, no explanation. Now one of theirs is dead, and another is trapped behind enemy lines. And again, she STILL doesn't explain anything, so now there's even more mistrust. And I say all of this as someone who's been a Michonne fan from jump. She's my absolute favorite character in the franchise, so know that there is never any bias from me when I speak on characters, even if they're my favorites. The whole Andrea/Woodbury situation is probably the ONLY situation where I disagreed on how she HANDLED a situation. (Well, there's one other, but it's a very specific thing, as opposed to a bigger situation like what's happening here)... Now, here's the thing about The Governor. The man is very intelligent. He's a quick thinking, charismatic manipulator. He's a great liar, and he does it by skewing the truth for it to be believable enough to work in his favor. He truly operates like a politician, which is why he's able to get so many people wrapped around his finger. The actor, David Morrissey, said he modeled the way he played The Governor after Bill Clinton. The charm, the charisma, the "trusting" factor, . And despite Bill Clinton's shennanigan's, even many people hating his wife in more recent years, and he's STILL beloved by many. Think about how he manipulated and skewed the truth regarding the Monica Lewisky situation. Every time The Governor's getting backed into back into a corner regarding his lies, he skews the truth just enough and delivers it in a way to make it believable, and he does it very quickly without missing a beat. The bullet holes in the military tank? "They must have encountered bandits weeks ago". He answered it easily with a very believable response. They DID encounter bandits, but he skews the truth to cover his own tracks. The zombie fighting antics? It's just entertainment that lets people blow off steam. I'm sure it's true. I mean, in ancient times, we had colosseums of gladiators and wild animals fighting as entertainment. Today, we have wrestling. The heads in the tank? He flips it as explaining it as a coping mechanism and as a reminder of the horrors outside. He doesn't say that he's murdering humans sadistically and has the tank for his own sadistic satisfaction, but the tanks are probably really are his way of coping and feeding his monsterous darkness to desensitize himself after losing his daughter. Using Merle as his scapegoat. Merle DID betray The Governor by lying to him about killing Michonne. Now, he doesn't tell anyone that, of course. He skews it and uses his brother, Daryl, to further push and provide "evidence" of the lie to get everyone to believe it. This is what he does. Now, Michonne got hip to because she's very observant and she's good at reading people. It's a skill that honestly most people, no matter what they believe about thenselves, genuinely do not have. I have a theory WHY Michonne in particular has that skill, but it's regarding a detail about comic Michonne that never actually gets revealed or confirmed in the TV series, but even SHE'S shocked when she sees the heads in the tanks and a chained up (walker) child in a closet, realizing just how sick he really is. In the comics spoiler, none of them (Rick, Glenn, Michonne), caught on to the fakeness of The Governor's "friendly leader" nature when they're introduced, and he's talking to them about and touring Woodbury. Michonne actually is the most cautious of the 3 when The Governor asked Rick what theor "story" was, she jumped in to answer instead for Rick with a lie to cover themselves, which The Governor picked up on her answering instead of Rick, who he was talking to. It wasn't until The Governor showed then "the fights" soon after, and even after showing a sense of disproval of them using walkers the way he was, it wasn't until he outirght told them that they were feeding the walkers strangers that they realize the guy was batshit (he's faaaar worse/insane than TV Governor, but still holds the same qualities of being highly intelligent, cunning, manipulative/persuasive/deceptive, leadership, and charisma, but TV Governor is more better hiding his cards closer to his chest and keeping up his facade)...

I mean, it is understandable to not catch why right away initially. There's so much that happened in this episode alone, and him just throwing Merle under the bus like that can catch you off guard, especially since he's the Governor's right-hand man. It's easy to forget about Merle's lie about Michonne because a lot happened in the two episodes since then...
