I think Tyreese decided not to hurt Carol because he saw what taking another life did to her Carol is not heartless or emotionless Killing Lizzie was a tough decision to make and even tougher to execute Killing Karen and David was probably the same She didn’t make those decisions lightly and her actions (that had good intentions but still bad) weigh heavily on her and cause her so much anguish that she was prepared to die by Tyreese’s hand Tyreese saw that she is human and despite misguided actions has a good heart and a conscious.

Interesting Trivia: 1) Scenes in a particular TV episode are always filmed out of order, but since they were primarily in one location here, director Michael E. Satrazemis chose to shoot the scenes in the exact order they occurred in the episode, allowing the actors to basically "live" how it would have happened, slowly building up to those final gut-wrenching moments. 2) On the table in the house, they had a partially completed jigsaw puzzle as set dressing. When it came time for Carol to confess to Tyreese that she had killed Karen and David, the actors arrived on the set and found the jigsaw puzzle had been completed. It was a picture of Sophia in the rainbow t-shirt she was wearing when she got lost and then later walked out of the barn. That really helped set the emotional tone for that scene, especially for Melissa McBride. 3) I notice you watched the special extended version of the episode. It has several scenes that weren't originally there when it aired and/or the scenes were shorter in the TV broadcast version. A couple scenes added back in were Mika doing her Terminus robot thing and where she wanted to bury the walker and Carol wound up helping her. Plus, some others. You're right, this is one of the most messed-up episodes of the series. It's also one of the most outstanding. It generated a lot of media buzz and critical acclaim at the time, with many in the media calling for Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for acting (Melissa McBride, in particular), writing (showrunner Scott M. Gimple) and directing (Michael E. Satrazemis, his first time as director). Unfortunately, the closest it came to any mainstream award was a Critics' Choice Television Award nomination for Melissa McBride as Best Supporting Actress. She did win some other non-mainstream awards that year, but sadly (as best I can recall), I don't think any of the others got the recognition they deserved for this one. There was some ominous foreshadowing early on when Carol told Lizzie that Sophia didn't have a mean bone in her body, and Lizzie asked if that's why she wasn't here. The next day, when Carol is bandaging Tyreese's arm, she tells him she's worried about Mika because she doesn't have a mean bone in her body. Uh-oh. And, yes, that smoke was indeed coming from the house fire that Daryl and Beth set, as did those crispy walkers. Good catch! (A lot of people missed that at the time.) The scene that got me the most was where Carol was talking Lizzie down from the ledge, so to speak, telling her that Judith was too young to "change" because she couldn't even walk yet, then telling her to go inside with Tyreese and Judith for lunch while she stayed behind to tie up Mika so she wouldn't "wander off." The whole time, she's trying her best to act like nothing is wrong. Then, once they've left, her face crumples and she can't hold back the tears anymore as she pulls out her knife to keep Mika from turning. Just heartbreaking. All the performances in this episode were top notch. Which made it all the more impactful.

Lizzie has an undiagnosed psychosis or maybe it’s diagnosed I don’t know but she needed professional help and probably needed to be on meds/or was on medication before the apocalypse Honestly her father should’ve told Carol what was actually wrong with Lizzie, Mika knows her sister is messed up but she probably doesn’t understand or know the extent of her medical issues just that Lizzie is different. It looks like it was a secret their parents kept from both of them. And her parents probably told Lizzie she was different or special hence why she’s always calling the walkers different and special
@dravenquinn2642 жыл бұрын
It’s heavy moments like this that makes this show so compelling I think this was the more humane resolution She could not be trusted around Judith or anyone after this It was either putting her down or abandoning her The latter would just have had her playing with walkers until she was inevitably painfully ripped apart Just like she was about to let that one she was playing with in the yard almost get her when Carol was running over She wouldn’t have made it on her own This was more painless resolution for her really Great episode.

I love how you mentioned “all the soft people seem to be dying” that’s so so true and such a big theme these next two seasons. You have to turn into a bit of a monster to survive in this world, but finding a balance where you’re just straight killing everyone and everything, in a world where it’s hard to trust strangers. Cause if you don’t you get yourself killed or others. It’s an ugly truth.

I would first like to say that anytime anyone says to look at the flowers or DOES look at flowers, I get flashbacks I swear. Amazing episode - heartbreaking, but amazing. Personally, I think that Lizzie might have been schizophrenic and that's why she thought the walkers were 'special' and seemed to think of them as people. Mika telling Lizzie to look at the flowers and count them and such is a coping skill taught in therapy, which likely means Lizzie was in therapy before the apocalypse. Sadly, we have no therapist with us here, so Carol made the right decision.
@pb12922 жыл бұрын
They got back just in time to save Judith. Lizzie says I was just about to referring to Judith and Carol says Judith can't even walk yet. Lizzie was off from the start. The Blu Ray DVD version had an alternate angle of the Look at the Flowers scene from Tyreese’s POV from the window so we actually see Carol shoot her and see her body fall and react It’s a much more jarring scene IMO makes it seem more impactful but Carol’s face does say SO much when it cuts to her afterwards.
