Could The War with Grandpa be this year's Playing with Fire? Watch as Brad and Rob review this new family comedy starring Robert De Niro.
The War with Grandpa is a 2020 American family comedy film directed by Tim Hill, from a screenplay by Tom J. Astle and Matt Ember, based upon the novel of the same name by Robert Kimmel Smith.
It also features Uma Thurman, Rob Riggle, Oakes Fegley, Laura Marano, Cheech Marin, Jane Seymour, and Christopher Walken.
Synopsis: a young boy who works to get his grandfather to move out of his room after he moves in with his family.

In the time of COVID, the sheer level of hubris behind the phrase “Exclusively In Theaters” has reached almost comical levels. I can’t imagine the theater experience is the “true” way that The War With Grandpa is supposed to be seen. Wasted time, wasted energy. Yes, Grandpa should just go to VOD. Guaranteed, more people would see him.

I read the book for this back in Elementary school, it's a sweet little story about family that would work as a movie if done like "A Christmas Story". Simple, sincere and relatable to both kids and adults. This movie...did not do that.

Right. I like grandpa and his friends, but the rest of the family acted like idiots - the mum clearly needs some medication, the dad is a clown and are you going to tell me that 12yo doesn't know what a war is? Not to mention that he almost killed his grandpa at multiple occasions. Also the humor is at the level of a first grade.

If the Academy doesn't change its rules, this movie could be nominated for Best Picture (with its competition being Sonic) and DeNiro could walk away with another acting Oscar depending on which category Jim Carrey gets nominated in.

I saw this movie in theaters in 2020 and I was the only one watching it. But the movie did get a couple of laughs from me, even with the first cutaway scene. Yet, I think it was fine. Not something I hate or love, but I think it went by okay for me. Though the little sister's obsession with Christmas, which includes her birthday party, seems a bit overwhelming as her side of the room has Christmas decorations and she only wears Christmas shirts and ugly sweaters.

If I get Covid from going to the movies, so be it. I haven't seen everyone worrying when it's announced a celebrity has it... Robert Pattinson already back at work, Dwayne Johonson is still alive last I heard, Idris Elba is still awesome. Let's keep the theaters open now... here's hoping Wonder Woman will be here for Christmas to save the theaters.
