Thanks for your entertaining and informative video! I enjoyed it and it inspired me to finally get in my garage and take my lousy "sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't" Door Master off and put on a new belt drive opener!

Now that would be a good video! I could say "Ok today I'm going to swap the 3800 for an 8500" then put on my tool belt...swap the wall console and call it done!!

It was fantastic! lol I think we've all had our flubs in videos. Mine are pretty apparent. LOL! Look at it this way.. at least you know there's no more WD junk being installed! LOL!

You could swap out that 3800 in the show room for an 8500. Oh wait... that'd just be adding an 888. LOL

Thanks JW, I would be very interested to see how many of these machines made it longer than 3-5yrs in that subdivision you refer to, an opener like the I-Drive could put a dealer out of business with the failure rate that I suspect it could have, I had an old Doormaster lying around somewhere but I can't find it, when I do it will be video'd.

At my house we have a 10x7 9100 WD door, when it was installed they didn’t use the torque master, that was the best decision ever made, Also what happened with 1280 all those years ago?

I heard from Wayne dalton that most idrives were built with the wrong fuse and they will send you a correct replacement. Maybe why they sucked so bad

Hahaha...yea that was one of my favorite lines!!! It kind of referred back to the video he had where I made fun of the fact that his camera work was rather bad.

"It's 1280, and he sounds pissed" and the crapet got sprayed with soda. LOL! How did I miss this before? I remember the Doormaster having an actual deadbolt, that extended from the case, then they switched to having the motor flop down. I'll give WD credit for being innovative, but they ended making junk. They were better off sticking with the Challenger based machines, tho a friend of mine had the WD ProDrive Belt, which failed after 6 months of *LIGHT* use. Easy I-Drive opener?Sledgehammer.LOL

That's a good question...I think I got so frustrated in part 1 that I think I dumped the rest of the ones I had lying around.

Hahahahaha, I knew you would get that subliminal message, The doormaster...I think it was called, was the very early version of the I Drive and I'd swear I got one lying around, I'm gonna look for it today. This week I should have the video of the I drive "Pro" up. Thanks for watching buddy!!

I note that many people have a winter problem as do I. Eventually the stalling motor would burn out. When ALLProGarageDoors took the DC motor off, one could see a worm screw at the end with thick grease on the end. I think that by taking off the top screws and doing a manual release (pulling back that release gear) the DC motor would come right off. Then one could use WD 40 to dissolve the old grease, clean up, and put in Mystik low temperature grease instead. If the DC motor internal grease is the problem then you have reached the end of what you can do.

Back in the day how did one install these? Looks to me that you'd have to take the whole spring assembly apart...

Vetten...run some WD-40 down the back side of the jambs and let it soak into the wood. That's where I would start, try to see if the door is binding.
