I love this Anorak. I totally forgot about that inside front pouch pocket, I had to get up and look at mine to see if I had it. I wear this thing almost everyday and didn’t even notice it. Thanks for making amazing stuff Weatherwool. We’re all grateful.

I''ve just recently started wearing wool. I've been cold all my life and had no clue that wool would have kept me warmer! I can't afford that Anorak just yet! I'm on a pension and Uncle Sam is still pick pocketing me Lol, but by this time next year I will hopefully have gotten my Anorak from Weather Wool, it just looks different and it appears to have been made with quality. It's not just a lumbering piece of wool. Man I can't wait!

Spoke to Ralph, today. He is for real deal! I was going to buy a filson mackinaw cruiser, first. Ralph changed my mind. WeatherWool Co is very personable and frankly is simply a better overall deal in 2018, including the customer service. He, Ralph, convinced me to give WeatherWool my business. But, I got to wait an extra month to buy, as it's a higher price. It is clearly going to worth the wait and the money.

I recently purchased this anorak in drab mid weight and would like to give a bit of a review. Yes I know it was a recent purchase... But I've used it a lot already. First off, I'm 6'1 and 175 lbs tall and lean. The small fits me perfectly with room for layers... Though I do wish it was a few inches longer. ( Personal preference) The workmanship is very well done and you can tell by the stitching. Yes it is expensive...and even more so up here in Canada with the exchange. Some things to point out... This garment CAN get burn holes if a ember lands on it... It might be a little slower than synthetic...but it is definitely not immune to the fire. ( Nothing is) there is fortunately a bit of a warning with the burning hair smell). Also on the website it talks about being able to wear the mid weight in HEAVY warmer rain. Well I definitely put this to the test and I'm not sure what kind of HEAVY rain they were talking about...but this got wet fast... And stayed wet for some time. I didn't find that it kept me super warm either...but I was wet so 🤷. Light and shorter rain it worked exceptionally well though. Some design suggestions I have for Weatherwool. Added length to all the anorak line by a few inches. Also I would love to see the side zips all the way to the armpit. And last but most importantly...the sinching toggles on the side are in a terrible place and are permanently fixed to the garment...I ended up cutting these off as everytime I wanted to lay on my side I had something digging into my ribs. Perhaps make them removable? All in all it's a very nice piece of kit and the customer service was great. If you have the coin it's definitely worth a look as far as wool goes!

Hi Daggiedrop ... First ... THANKS for working with us. And thanks for your (anonymous?) thoughts. We are definitely unaccustomed to such a lukewarm review. You are welcome to return for a refund. We will refund anyone who is not happy after a long field test. And we will happily be compared (as All-Purpose Outerwear) to whatever else is out there. Regarding your points: SIZING ... Sizing can be difficult because people come in so many different shapes. Congrats on being 6'1" (185 cm) and 175 pounds (79 kg). That was me, too, in 1977. Now, I might be slightly shorter, but I weigh 280 (127 kg). How can a company -- particularly a very small company like ours -- make clothing to fit both of us? Compromises are necessary. The cuffs of the Anorak can easily be let out 2 inches (5 cm) for exactly the type of physique you have. EXPENSIVE ... It seems in the clothing biz, anytime you try to make things better it will cost more. And we always make the choice that results in a better garment. (BURN HOLES FROM A SPARK? Nobody has ever reported a burn from a spark, let alone a burn hole. I'm not sure anyone has even reported a burn hole from an ember, either. Maybe we are disagreeing on what is a SPARK (to me, it's a red-hot pinpoint that cools off in a couple seconds because it's so small) and what is an EMBER (a small, red-hot bit of wood ejected from a "popping" fire). I've only seen singes before the ember goes out on its own. If you were sitting near a fire and your Anorak got burn holes before you even knew something was up, we will certainly replace it or refund it. We've never heard of anything like this happening. There are knifemakers who wear our wool in their shops specifically because sparks (such as from a grind stone) don't affect it. IT MIGHT BE A LITTLE SLOWER [to burn] THAN SYNTHETIC. Well, that would depend on the synthetic. Firefighters wear flame-resistant, NOMEX (synthetic). But if you are talking about the synthetics normally used for clothing -- whether for woodswear or streetwear -- the wool is immensely better than any synthetics I am aware of. Typical synthetics WILL be damaged by SPARKS. And EMBERS will burn holes immediately. But we haven't done a lot of testing of synthetics, so there may be some that are much better around a campfire than others. RAIN: There are a few things here. Wearing wool under the Anorak is critical to rain resistance. I often wear cotton under our wool here in the suburbs. Just a couple of days ago, I had a cotton T under the Anorak and was (AGAIN!) really surprised how the cotton seems to pull water through the wool. I've tested this lots of times, and it's kind of amazing. No base layer at all works better than a cotton base layer. But also (maybe getting into the weeds here), it depends on how the rain hits you. Walking through a forest in a downpour is very different from walking in the open. I think water falling off the trees does not hit the wool as hard as water falling from the sky. I don't know for sure, but I guess the force of rain falling from the sky can sort of stab through, whereas drops falling from the trees hit much more gently. AND ... wool gets wet in ways that surprise a lot of people. There is a lot of info on the website about this. But wool is very reluctant to soak up water. Mostly, wool gets wet the way the hair on a person's head gets wet. It doesn't saturate immediately in the way cotton does. Wool does saturate, but very very slowly. And once saturated, it will still dry off on the outside quickly even while the inside of the fibers remain saturated. But it can't dry off unless in a dry place. If the base layer is also wool, tho, the wearer should be warm and comfortable. SIDE ZIPS: We are reluctant to make the side zips longer because there are disadvantages to doing so. Usually people who want longer side zips turn out to be wearing synthetic base layers, or are used to synthetic garments that don't breathe the way wool does. But some people are just in great shape and can generate enormous body heat for a long time. If we make the zips longer, we'd almost be forced to add buttons to the sides in case of zipper failure. We've been very pleasantly surprised by how well the zips have endured. But still, longer zips would make us nervous. SIDE CINCHES: We hate them too. We really dislike all the cord locks we have ever found. The vast majority of them are not made in the USA, which means we can't use them. But that doesn't even matter, because we've never found any that we really like. We are very much open to suggestion. Once you cut off the cord locks, did you also remove the waist cord? How do you adjust the cord without the cord locks? THANKS AGAIN for your review and for working with us and feel free to phone me to discuss!! --- Best Regards --- Ralph --- 973-943-3110

@@WeatherWool thanks for the response..as I said... excellent customer service. You are most likely right in saying it was a ember not a spark ( adjusted my original comment). I was mildly devastated when I saw the hole. I watched some sewing videos and managed to close it with hopefully a stitch that will hold. I was Infact in a straight downpour so I get what you are saying... Especially with the proper layering system. I was wearing cotton underneath at the time. Completely understand what you are saying about not making the side zips longer. As far as the synching system... I have left the bungee cord in for now. Though I was considering removing it as I just don't see myself ever using it. Is there a chance that this particular anorak isn't as fire proof as others? I smelled the burning hair smell for a few seconds before I figured out where it was coming from. Sadly it was too late. Thanks for the reply.

@@daggiedrop7108 The cotton base layer is a sort of amazing thing which I can't explain except to say it's real. As for the burn, that's a problem and a first that I have heard of. Sounds like the garment let you down and we need to address it somehow. Being that you are in CA and we are in USA makes addressing this more complicated because we can't send you a return label and because the GST / PST people need to be accommodated with extra paperwork so they know it's not a new purchase ... But let's see what we can figure out ... Please send me an email Ralph@WeatherWool.com so we can communicate more easily. Thanks --- Ralph

Iv bin mulling this over for a year. And about to pull trigger on this or boreal. My question is can the fullweight compete with the boreal into the single digits
@WeatherWool
@WeatherWool 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeff!! --- I can't comment on any other garments without having worn them, and have not tested the boreal anorak myself. Somebody else will probably chime in before long. I am assuming you mean single digits Farhrenheit? WeatherWool designs for versatility more than anything else. The Anorak is designed to handle room temperature (some people wear them all day in the office) down to freezing or somewhat colder, with a single base layer. If I had designed the Anorak directly for cold weather, it would have had a more serious neck closure, maybe some kind of a draw around the bottom, maybe been longer. And it would have been made only in FullWeight Fabric ... it's available in both FullWeight and MidWeight versions. BUT ... it's tough to say what will work for any given person. Here is a note Craig Matheson sent a couple of days ago. He gave me permission to post it ... "Just had to let you know that my new mid weight lynx anorak has exceeded expectations. Great job there. Wore it with a t-shirt base layer in -10 the other night and arms a bit cold but wow - I think subconsciously I need more clothing but this anorak was really solid at keeping the heat in. Beautifully made too. Flawless stitching and fabric. It's my favorite piece of outdoor clothing. I love the lynx pattern too. It's a perfect camo for winter forest, but it doesn't scream camo - very well done there." ... Craig is Canadian, talking Celsius ... -10C/14F ... the MidWeight Anorak over a T-Shirt in that temp will not be a good idea for that many people, but it depends a lot on what you are used to, what you are doing, wind, humidity, and (for sure!!) base layers. Sorry to be so long-winded about it. Just trying to give a good answer. THANKS for your interest! --- Ralph
