the way I've always look at the beginning bit with the Sun is that it was a team effort. Chanty was like the Sun's hype man or spotter, so the Sun would still be putting in the effort but without the other half it just couldn't get that last rep in.
@k9wolf07
@k9wolf07 11 ай бұрын
It wasn't explained super well in the film but in an interview with Don Bluth he said that "The sun had gotten so used to rising at the time when Chanticleer crows that it did so subconsciously no matter if it was called by him or not. After the other animals then toss out Chanticleer, the sun became angry at them and refused to rise until Chanticleer returned." Also I noticed its common in animated films to make the bird characters busty for some reason, which is fine I'm not complaining its just weird that its usually birds and almost none of the mammal characters lol

Yeah, the story is pretty disjointed. The original tale of Chanticleer the Rooster actually ended with the revelation that he didn’t have the power to make the sun rise and him coming to an existential conclusion that while he had no real power, he was still a great authority figure for all the farm animals. The whole thing with the Duke of Owls, saving the farm, and bringing back the sun was all Don Bluth’s addition. Interestingly enough, this film had been a project that had been floating around the Disney studio for a long time. It was nearly greenlit in the ‘60s, but was ditched in favor of “The Sword in the Stone” instead. And when it was shelved, many of the conceptual designs for the characters were recycled in “Robin Hood” and the original “America Sings” attraction at Disneyland (which was then repurposed into Slash Mountain). Don Bluth happened to be working at the studio when it was pitched, so “Rock-a-Doodle” was basically his attempt at making the Chanticleer film (liberties taken).

The sun coming up without him (while it was not explained) is shown that when he left the sun went back down. I think the interpretation was that Chanticleer makes it stay up, even if it rises on its own.

I met Don Bluth at a convention recently and I asked him about why the sun came up that one time without him crowing, and he said Chanticleer only thought he brought up the sun, but he never did. The sun rising and his crowing was pure coincidence. At first, I was confused by his answer, but I looked more into it and Rock a Doodle was based on a play called Chantecler by Edmond Rostand, and in the play, the rooster only thinks his crowing raised the sun, but it never actually did. I think that was what Bluth was referring to. But the play makes that more clear while his movie does not. 🤷‍♂️

The sun thing is weird, but I've had a theory about it for a while now. Basically? It's all the Grand Duke. We know he sent the bully to fight and distract Chanticleer, thereby disgracing and disheartening him when the sun came up without him, but, as the rest of the movie proves, it DOESN'T come up without him. So, basically, in order for his plan to work, the DUKE summoned the sun. We know he has magical powers, of sometimes astoundingly vast nature; if a rooster crowing can do it, it should be no problem for him, counterintuitive though it may seem to his nature. And far all I know you've already done this one, but you should check out 'Felix the Cat: The Movie'. That film is like every flavor of weird.

I don't blame you for thinking Hunch is a vulture, but hes actually supposed to be a pygmy owl! I always thought the reason he had that freaky long neck is because he got injured or something caused him to lose his feathers there, exposing his neck. Yes, owls actually have long necks like that. low key I enjoyed this movie as a kid if for no other reason than my grandmother was a BIG fan of Elvis lol! So I grew up hearing Elvis songs when at my grandparents place...it did not help matters that my grandfather when he was young looked a bit like a young Elvis. I take a lot of my looks back from my grandpa and my hair naturally wants to be a pompadour at a certain length...my best friend legit said that if he brushed it a certain way to make it look a little straighter, flat on top and dyed it orange I could cosplay as Kuwabara from Yu Yu Hakusho rather easily cause my hair naturally wants to look like that for a little while...if it grows longer it gets all poofy and curly.

I saw this one as a kid at the kindergarten or early school years with norwegian dub but thought this movie was a fever dream when I was younger until in my teens I did a deep dive into the huge catalog of records, movies, comics, shows with a comedy/rockabilly band I had liked since I was a kid, Vazelina Bilopphøggers (1979-2022, their last concert like nearly everything else is on KZfaq). The vocalist back then Viggo Sandvik had the voice for Chanticleer Guitarist/Accordionist/Singer Eldar Vågan was Patou Saxophonist/Organist/Accordionist/Singer Jan Einar Johnsen was Snipes And drummer and carwrecker Arnulf Paulsen was Stuey Vazelina Bilopphøggers (Vazelina Carwreckers) started out as a joke at a christmas party at Arnulf Paulsen's wreckyard in 1979, but the joke quickly took over when guitarist Eldar Vågan entered the band in a national competition which resulted in them getting a record deal (although they didn't win), the single record and the album sold extremely well in Norway which led to them choosing to continue even though half the band quit after 1 year which resulted in Viggo Sandvik joined the band in 1981 and the success continued and they were literally everywhere in the 80's and 90's The film was not a success in Norway either, but the album was

Actually there was some last minute behind the scenes changes that forced the movie to have a narration which I was not a fan of because they talked over the songs and when chanticleer and Goldie were singing their song together the liquid that they were drinking is clearly more alcohol but they change to milk to avoid being censored by changing the shape of the cups that was clearly alcohol and also the house that had to minimize Goldie's physical appearance because she was way more alluring
@keshiaanders6452
@keshiaanders6452 2 ай бұрын
The soundtrack is better than the movie. All of the good songs are not blocked by dialog nor cut short. Although, the movie was suppose to be much darker & more "mature". 1.) There's a disturbing deleted scene of the Duke about to bake a small skunk into a pie, giving off some Sweeney Todd vibes. 2.) In one the extended versions of the villains' songs, The Duke mentions about graphic details on crushing Edmund's head. 3.) Goldie was suppose to show a lot of cleveage, as a reference to her voice actress, Ellen Greene (who did show off her rack in "Little Shop of Horrors" ). Though it made her look more like a blonde feathersona of Jessica Rabbit.

BTW: the "cover pic" on your video featuring "chicken bazongas?!" reminded me how in cartoons, maleness is taken for granted; cartoon characters are male by default. However, femaleness in cartoon animals must be marked somehow: long eyelashes, hair bows, white bodies, pink or red lips, or in this case, mammal-like breasts that birds simply don't have.

You realize that cabinets are also those things that people keep their dishware and other misc items in their kitchens, right? What do Gen Zers think they're called? Either way, this movie isn't as bad as people (Nostalgia Critic) make it out to be . . . is it a great movie? Not exactly. Does it hold up well as an adult? Not particularly. But, again, it's a childhood movie that has some genuine nostalgic sentimentality tied to it, and of course, the animation is gorgeous, as to be expect from Don Bluth.
