You know the thing that always got me about this film? If they had just stuck with the idea that Chanticleer wasn't needed to bring up the sun, this could have been so much more interesting. The main conflict could start up when the animals realize they need Chanticleer to wake them up in the morning so they can get their chores done on time, then Chanticleer would learn that even without god-like powers, he's still useful.

Too bad about this movie being bad, I thought it was magical about having live action turn into animation. And it could've been a sign for Don Bluth's animation to be able to cross with live action. Just like what happened in Marry Poppins, Pete's Dragon, and Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

Poor Don Bluth.
@1992disney3 жыл бұрын
There are two fun facts to know about this movie: 1. It was originally supposed to be released during the 1991 holiday season. But Don Bluth didn't want the movie to compete with Disney's Beauty and the Beast (speaking of which, he was actually planning to make his own animated film adaptation of that timeless fairytale, but when he found out that his competitor was already producing one, he decided to cancel it). So he had it pushed back to spring the following year, but it only ended up competing with FernGully and unsurprisingly, there was no contest. At least it was a good call on Bluth's part. Imagine this movie being completely destroyed by Disney both critically and financially had he not delayed it for a couple of months. 2. Believe it or not, there was actually a parade float to promote the movie during the 1991 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. And on the same float, it featured characters from the movie including Edmond (in kitten form like in the movie, of course), Peepers (in puppet form), Patoo, Chanticleer, and the Grand Duke of Owls. The only two who were totally absent from the float for some reason were Snipes and Goldie. And the song that was performed from the movie was Sun Do Shine, obviously. You can watch that in it's entirety here (go to the 1:03:00 mark): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bdODncyqrb25e5c.html
@FabFields673 жыл бұрын
Makes you wonder where the costumes are
@1992disney3 жыл бұрын
@@FabFields67 My theory is that they were destroyed (along with the Peepers puppet) sometime after the movie came out and failed miserably both critically and financially, of course. That's why neither the characters nor the float were brought back ever since. Macy's pretty much knew that it was such a disaster and that nobody went to see it and nobody enjoyed it. So they wanted to forget about it and pretend that it never even happened and were never associated with it via a tie-in. I don't blame them. They've pretty much saved themselves from any further embarrassment regarding the movie.

15:20 Is that a Charlie cameo? And yeah, as much as I love Don's work you can tell when the weirdness started to overtake a lot of the better storytelling elements. His character designs are BEAUTIFUL but I think his weakness was always second-guessing himself in order to be more 'Disney-like' when his best work was more anti-Disney, in a sense when he took more chances and allowed the story to get a bit darker. One thing I will always be envious of him is his character designs and how he does glitter effects on a lot of his clothing. You mention the Jessica Rabbit comparison for Goldie but he always did that sparkle effects for a lot of his movies and even in the games he animated. It's just so wonderfully Bluth and 80s/90s. Goldie, even if her character is kinda meh personality wise, is animated so well that hr body language does a better job acting than the lines she's given which really makes me wish that the movie was MORE about her and Chanticleer vs what we got. The two were the mains in the original but here it feels like they're almost 3rd tier characters.

I actually wrote a crossover re-enactment of this movie (you know, like of the those crazy crossover fanfics that just copy the same story they're supposedly parodying), and some said that it's better then the original because I filled in some of the plot holes & developed the characters more....even if they were cartoon "actors" playing the roles of the characters. Such as the Chanticleer character actually being labeled as a prodigy and had too much pressure put onto him to crow during a specific day the villain will start to rain nonstop if he doesn't. And it turns out that he could never crow after all of this time, thus the townsfolk got angry with him & mocked him for being a loser....until they came to their senses that they are all to blame for the seemingly endless flooding & hope to give him another chance. And during the part where the Chanticleer character has a dilemma on whether or not should he return to farm he came from since he still can't crow but doesn't want his friends & family to drown, he bumps into an old mentor of his that was long since retired, that gave him a few words of encouragement to go back home & do the best he can to save the farmland.

He disguised himself as a penguin, has weird visions about villains and warned the others about trees. That's it! Edmunt has nothing interresting or adorable, he's a lame hero :S This movie is so weird! The evil owl with magic breath, the Elvis rooster, the magical Sun, Edmunt dream about various villains while he's chased by the Duke's minions which is a big lipped aligator moment like Doug from Nostalgia critic said. The story is a mess, the romance between Chanticleer and Goldie is rushed and not that cute. This film is just a lot of scenes that has nothing in comon putted together, there's nothing coherent or well developped.
