Fun fact: Karla Holmoka actually changed her name, moved to Quebec (the couple was from around St. Catherine’s, ON) and had a couple kids. She volunteered to be a parent supervisor on her child’s field trip for which you have to have a background check done and they found out who she actually was.

I think the rant about them being losers was not only justified and worth including, but an example of something we need more of. Serial killers and mass shooters love to see themselves as powerful. They want to be infamous. They're not strong, they're not cool villains. They're the biggest failures we've got. They're pathetic jokes of people that deserve to be mocked.

@@bottomtext251 Committing mass murder is not a valid outlet for someone's internal issues, regardless of the source or the severity of said issues. Many of the victims likely also had serious issues they were dealing with, but didn't resort to ending numerous lives and ruining countless more. A note about Pickton and the "disposal" : While none of the meat that was shipped out (at the time) tested positive for human remains beyond showing that the pigs in question had consumed human remains, Pickton did say he occasionally would mix it in with the pork in the grinder and serve it at Piggy's Palace. Likewise his longtime accomplice said she saw him flay, skin, and butcher the corpses rather than just dispose of them "normally" as if he were preparing meat rather than hiding a body. This mind you this is only going off of his word to an undercover cop so it's impossible to confirm, but yeah. Really surprised nobody has based a Leather Face-esque character off of him at this point. He makes Ed Gein look like a saint.

Leonard Lake and Charles Ng were active and buried bodies near my family’s cabin/private campground. I can’t tell you how many summers I had to hear the stories by the campfires, which always ended in “they never found all the bodies!” (In my deadbeat dad’s drunken voice). Nice thing to tell a bunch of small children…stories stopped when they exhumed a body 10 miles away. Wasn’t such a fun story for the adults after that.

The most chilling part of this video is the Robert Mullin entry when he explicitly tracks down some random dude who gave him weed in high school to kill him and his wife, and then going back and killing the woman who told him where he was and her children. Something about doing something so long ago that seems so innocuous that would just so happen to be the reason you'd get murdered probably decades later is so unsettling to me, combined with the innocent woman who was just trying to help this stranger.

The good news on Paul Bernardo is that he was denied parole, and is designated a "dangerous offender", which makes it highly unlikely he'll EVER make parole. At his 2021 hearing, he showed a certain level of self-awareness, identifying that he realized he was doing it because he felt entitled to the act and feared rejection, and that while Carla certainly had her part, he was the one who set her on the path and "ruined her life". That said, these are clearly the acts of a very ego-centric man. Even while partly blaming himself for Carla's part, it reads less like an apology in this case, and more like he wants the CREDIT. It's all part of his control fantasy, and I wouldn't doubt that he'd do the same things again, given the chance.

11:50 the thing is, the motivation of a defence lawyer in cases like this is not to get the defendant out of prison, but to ensure theres absolutely no chance of a mistrial so that they can never get out of prison on a technicality. So the lawyer not questioning witnesses actually helped the killer because it made it more possible to claim a mistrial.

As someone from the area whose family had a connection to the case, despite a few missed details I feel like this is one of the most respectful summaries of the Bernardo and Homolka killings on KZfaq. I know that this was meant to be a brief view of what happened, but really, that's all that's even needed. Tammy, Leslie and Kristen deserve to have their dignity preserved. Admittedly though, I did snicker a bit when the word ocean came up. We're nowhere near the ocean here. Also, Kemper knowingly using positive reinforcement tactics on Mullin with the peanuts, although pretty funny, is actually quite scary to me in a way and I feel like it just further proves how manipulative, cunning and dangerous he is.

As someone who was close to his animals as a kid and had to lose most of them by death, including farm life, I can attest the pain that brings to a child is life altering. And no I'm not being dramatic, facing that, to a child, literally changes something in you the same way REAL bad events change adults. Not an excuse for killing obviously, but I absolutely relate to the deadening of emotions and difference in perception after being forced to watch something you consider to be alive, innocent, and a friend, killed in front of you. The way you feel like you'd feel when you watch TV shows where a character you're close to has to watch someone they love be murdered while they're helpless to help, that's what that feels like to a child.

Yup because she took a plea deal to commit Bernardo. Which made her just look like an accomplice rather than another perpetrator. Which is baffling, and don’t worry. All of Canada was shocked. To my knowledge their interrogation procedures are much more pro-conviction than the US, actually. In the US once you ask for a lawyer, they have to shut up and get you a lawyer before they continue interrogating you and if you say anything BEFORE your lawyer, it's not admissable in court. Canada isn't like that, and they can keep berating you and even wait a bit to call your lawyer after you're requested council. It leads to a lot of fake or coerced confessions. Now, on the *sentencing* side, their judiciary system I believe is more forgiving than the US is (considering you can get 20 years in jail for just selling weed, and Karla Homolka only got 9 years for her horrific acts).
@SassyGirl822006
@SassyGirl822006 2 жыл бұрын
The issue with Karla Homulka is that she presented herself as a battered unwilling accomplice, and the authorities didn't learn otherwise until they had already made the plea deal. I think her trial was already done before they learned the truth in Paul Bernardo's trial. There was much backlash. But I didn't learn anything about it until years later. I went to Girl Guides near where one of the murdered girl's (I think it was Kristen French) disappeared from, and got banned from the news after I started having nightmares about being abducted from the parking lot at Girl Guides.

I agree... some of the documentaries seem to paint some serial killers as particularly smart, or calculated. In a lot of these cases it honestly seems like shoddy police work, or specifically in the case of Ted Bundy, the guy was just a manipulative prick. He wasn't even particularly handsome, speaking as a person into men myself *yawn* but seriously, calling him some charming, handsome, smart guy makes him sound a lot cooler than who he actually was, which was just a loser who took advantage of women who were none the wiser, because they didn't realize they had any reason to be concerned or afraid.

I learned more of serial killers or interesting murders and the bloody history of kingdoms (IE. Babylonians really violent and inequal judges to Peter Stumpp who was accused of cannibalism and apparently,,, werewolfery. Odd.) from my History Teacher (who would tell these if we behaved enough to _not_ make them have a migraine) than specific classes like that lmao

High school is only for learning how to dye your hair pink or purple, loathe yourself, and then complain about everything to deal with your self-loathing. Back in the day, I learned about most of this stuff from A&E and Court TV’s website about serial killers.

Another fun fact about pigs from someone who grew up on a pig farm: pigs are cannibalistic. The blood bit is also very accurate. Sometimes pigs will bite each other's tails, and if one gets bloody, it's fairly likely the other pigs in the pen will chew away at it until there's nothing left but a gaping hole in their backside. So instead those pigs will generally get moved into a new pen by themselves or maybe a handful of others that are sick or weak from being bullied away from food until they recover.

You really gotta look into Wayne Williams more. Many of the victims knew each other, and participated in “photography” by a ring in the area. When that ring was busted, they originally documented multiple photos of black children, but when the photos were looked at again, they all seemingly vanished.

my mom was in paul bernardo's victim age range while he was active. also, iirc, tammy actually died of alcohol poisoning. carla was not a virgin and paul wanted to be the one to have originally taken it, so the closes he could get would be carla's younger sister. i know a lot about this case because my mom kept up with it for a long time. i have no idea how she's gonna react when i tell her he has a parole trial soon

The entire handling of the Pickton case still makes me furious. I don't doubt that the reason the police did so little for so long and the jury was so quick to take pity on him was because his victims were prostitutes/homeless/addicts and mainly First Nations. The people in East Van knew they were being targeted but the police did nothing to protect them, thus that one woman going off to investigate Pickton's property herself.
