In Welsh mythology, the otherworld is known as Annwfn. The very deep. A realm betwixt and between, a cthonic underworld, a realm of fairy, or a deepening of our own reality? Watch to find out more!

Great content! I am a Druid here in Wales and grew up on magic and local practices. The Wales i grew up in was a world of mirrors and layers, so for me, modern Wales is just a further layer on the leak that is annwfn. Welsh culture has always survived because it is always present side by side by whatever was meant to supress or replace and our road signs are symbolic of this! Most of our practices and culture was asimulated in one form or another. Ritual sites and Holy wells built on by churches. Language replaced but still openly spoken. Gods and cultural figures renamed and reclaimed. However, like magic and our practices, wales and its many layers will always prevail...

So, here's an interesting parallel. In Irish paganism there's this concept of otherworld journeying being a form of meditation, where you go deep inside yourself and find yourself in the otherworld. Lora O'Brien and the Irish Pagan School have whole discourses on the subject. Which just tells me that there are clear cross-cultural concepts at work here, pre-christian ones at that, which just makes me very happy that they survived in the native cultures independently.

Oh my gosh. The way you've just described the being here in reality but being there (the otherworld) in consciousness has just hit really hard. I was in Powys on the weekend and went on a vision quest in the woods at night and that is exactly what happened to me, I had to be pulled back into myself after it was over. 🤯

I have a lot of thoughts on this video, and they concern the concept of Annwn in terms of a world in many ways at one with ours. Habitually I think of Annwn in terms of the underworld, and the interlocking of Annwn and the world reminds me not just of the thinning of the veil we hear about in Irish religion but also of what little I know about the Izumo Taishakyo sect of Shinto. The central deity of Izumo Taishakyo is Okuninushi, the kunitsukami (god of the land) who became the ruler of the Kakuriyo (or "spirit world"), and their main doctrine is that "the visible and invisible worlds", along with life and death, are two sides of the same coin. I'm delighted to hear about the connection to divine inspiration, or Awen, and its attendant retrieval from Annwn. It makes think of other sojourns into the underworld throughout myth, as well certain esoteric beliefs in India or Tibet surrounding journeys to the caves of the Asura, or the Vitriol maxim. I extrapolate thus: to acquire divine inspiration, you are to make a chthonic descent, and this descent deepens your existence, and your reciprocity with the gods and nature, thus knowledge is gained and the pagan joins with divine. It's personal interpretation in the end but I hope it is congruous in any case. It's an irresistible theme anyway, something me and my left hand path ways would embrace keenly. I do wonder how many other traditions would have this.

Hey Mhara! It’s currently Samhain/alfablót here in Brazil and I have stumbled upon your video for the third time. I can’t help but feel a pull toward the welsh mythology and magic, I have felt it for a while now, and I can’t help but feel like you are a sign for me to keep on studying about it and allow it to become familiar to me and see what happens. I won’t lie, it did surprise me as I’m a Brazilian practitioner of Norse magic but oh well hahahahaha

It was supposed to be merely set in an alternative historical Wales, but several novels in the story has shifted after I got lost in a Mabinogi black hole. What kind of setting and genre are you going for? Will you be using characters of the mythology?

Thank you for your channel and content! I never read the Mabinogi but have been wanting to for a long time and I was able to use my amazon credits to obtain the kindle version so I'm glad to now be able to finally read it. I did purchase the suggested author choice for the Mabinogi. Also thank you pointing us to more resources, subscribed to the Celtic Source channel. I don't think there is a lot of YT content covering Welsh Paganism or perspectives and information on Welsh witchcraft either in both the historical and mythological sense as well as how to have this as part of one's modern paths and practices so it's refreshing to find it when I do. I am looking forward to your book! I don't use tiktok so I hope to see your channel grow! :) can I say the silly thing a lot of Americans would say? I love your accent! but I'm here for the knowledge and delightful presentation you bring to us.

Just my view, I've always viewed it as the flip side of the disk of creation. One side the mortal multiverse the other the Otherworld with the Realms/Kingdoms that make it up. Some of the Deep places are where they synchronized so the two places exists simultaneously.

Ahhh this information resonated so much with me!! I have believed all my “remembered/aware) life that we exist in an overlapping of two planes and the “supernatural” or “spirit” world if you will, is all around us. While I am in the U. S., and was born/raised xtian, I’ve always been inspired by nature, trees, water, earth/rocks, and known there was more around me than I could see. Since “sloughing off” that mantle and embracing animism (which I really always believed in), I’m realizing almost all my inner “knowing” is related to Celtic paganism/animism. Again so glad to have found you on TT and here!!

I love your channel and what you are explaining about the Otherworld is what I have intuitively been trying to connect with in various ways. Can't wait to read your book. I just noticed the John Dee books over your head. My grandmother's name was Day/Dee and I know that John Dee was not a direct ancestor but we shared many Welsh ancestors like Rodri Mawr.... I feel like my roots and branches wind through the Welsh stories and they are part of me. The sound of the language is a source of Awen for me. I like Evangeline Walton's translation as well....

@mabonbran8913

Lol! One of the basic and most enduring truths of all Celtic and many of the related religions is REINCARNATION. Gender only relates to an individual incarnation, after thousands of life and death cycles, some people have a preference. You're not always born into your preferred sex or even race, makes no difference your immortal spirit can be all sorts, human, animals and even vegetation. Lol! Try being a tree for 500 years. There are feminine and masculine aspects within everything and each individual alive today has a combination of both maternal and paternal DNA. No such thing as "all man or all woman".
@sigururragnarorsteinsson3955
@sigururragnarorsteinsson3955 2 жыл бұрын
@@mabonbran8913 people didn't medically transition back then. If anything, you are conflating post modernism with reincarnation. Men and women are biologically different. Promoting androgyny to the indigenous celtic belief system so sexual deviants can justify their fetishes is just disenfranchising indigenous celtic spirituality. Also, according to Platonic theology, the human soul only reincarnates to other human beings. If reincarnation is a real phenomenon.
