Endless wandering, as I fall from grace An earthbound sailor, I gaze upon her face Firm as the horizon, seen but never reached Marooned upon this shore, helpless forever beached Moonlit laughter, dances in her smile Wind and water rises, whimsical and vile I slip below the surface, of a momentary grave. It breaks upon my body, embrace the crashing wave I hear the siren’s song Endless is my love I hear the siren’s song Deny me not, my love I hear the siren’s song Embrace the crashing wave Together we belong The sun’s dawn light, shines upon her face Trapped forever in her warm embrace Drowning in dark tresses; greedily gulping air Emotional waves vow, You, I will not spare I hear the siren’s song Endless is my love I hear the siren’s song Deny me not, my love I hear the siren’s song Embrace the crashing wave Together we belong Quietly cloaked in love’s warm glow Spare me not My Lady, never let me go Crush my heart, my angel of the sea A shared vision into the depths of eternity Rising to the heavens above Freed from our momentary grave, clothed in the light of our love, We are the crashing wave Drowning in dark tresses I hear the siren’s song Endless is my love I hear the siren’s song Deny me not, My Lady I hear the siren’s song We are the crashing wave Together we belong

I'm 61 and this is the kind of minor-key angst-ridden stuff I listened to when I was 15. It brings tears to my eyes to see this man build a bridges and connect. By the way, they said "the way the beach is kissed by the sea." because they're English poets. The word "o'er" is a poetic way of making the two-syllable "over" and make it one syllable. This kind of thing is what made me want to be an English major.

I was born in 1956, so I'm 64 this year. Jamel, your Musical Time Machine has transported you back to the "home" you never knew you had. I get goosebumps just watching you respond to to the music that moved us back in the day. I was 17 in 1973 when I met my high school sweetheart. She was 15. We married that summer of 1978, right after I graduated from college. This year, we will celebrate our 42nd anniversary. In 2002, I went to the wrong urologist and experienced the Vasectomy from Hell. I'm pretty sure Dr Foul-Up took the lidocaine himself and gave me a saline solution, because the "anesthesia" had no effect: The pain of the procedure was hair-raising, and his only response to my screams was to shout to his nurse to "Hold him down, Goddamnit!" Afterwards, my cajones swelled up like a rhino's and nothing--not even the proverbial bag of frozen peas--offered any relief from the pain. Long story short: From the trauma of that "surgery," I developed Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, a chronically painful disorder of involving my sympathetic nerve system, in which everything is all pain all the time. Even sensations that once were pleasurable are excruciatingly painful. Needless to say, any sort of conjugal relations with my wife became impossible. I have to grit my teeth just to cuddle. Even wearing clothes can be excruciating. So I FEEL this song. And if it makes you think about bringing home a bouquet of flowers to your lovely wife, DO THAT ... FOR ME!

@@stew7756 Actually, I was a guinea pig for a sacral nerve root stimulation implant test back in 2002, and that proved to be a disaster. Never recovered from that. The doc & all of the staff ran away when they were done. Now I'm house-bound and in total body pain 24/7. It's been 15 years. People used to ask if I was a body-builder (no, just a gal with a heavy job,) and now I can barely walk. I'm so sorry for you.

Perhaps my favorite moment in Who history was the night in October 2001 when The Who performed at The Concert for New York City after the hideous 9/11 attacks. They absolutely raised the roof off of Madison Square Garden that night as all the first responders smiled and partied for the first time in a long time. When this coronavirus catastrophe is over I think we will see a charity concert that will top Live Aid and I fully expect The Who to be there once again bringing a smile to my face as they have done so many times over the decades!

bostonwhofan yes I remember that and it was a phenomenal performance. My favorite parts were seeing the police and firefighters happy and going crazy happy. It was so good to see those poor guys who were working day and night in horrific horrific situations to be happy if not for a few hours. When The Who played “We won’t get fooled again”, the cops and firefighters went crazy! I worked two blocks away from The World Trade Center. Our building was evacuated for 9 months.

So beautiful! Do MY GENERATION - The Who's 1st breakthrough song, featuring Roger's infamous stutter-singing, and John Entwhistle's badass bass solos! Pete & Keith too, they all tear it up!

One of the top tracks on Quadrophenia. One of their greatest albums and a great story about English youth and "mods" in the early 1960's. Coincidentally watched the movie last night. Great.

I saw the Who in concert prepandemic in May 2019, they came out with a 40 pc. orchestra and at 70+ years of age they blew the doors off the place!! Played about 3:45 hours and I still can't believe how good they are!!!!!!!!!!!!

From my liner notes with this album,Pete Townshend states.. : "(Love, Reign O'er Me) refers to Meher Baba's one-time comment that rain was a blessing from God; that thunder was God's Voice. It's another plea to drown, only this time in the rain. Jimmy goes through a suicide crisis. He takes a boat out to a rock.... He surrenders to the inevitable, and you know, you know, when it's over and he goes back to town he'll be going through the same shit, being in the same terrible family situation and so on, but he's moved up a level. He's weak still, but there's a strength in that weakness. He's in danger of maturing."

With out a doubt The Who had the most skilled musicians and showmen of their time. Nobody could touch their live performances.

I was riding home late on the evening of 12/8/80 and this song was on the radio. When it ended, there was a silent moment... then the DJ told us what had happened in New York City, outside of The Dakota. I'll never forget that moment...

Jamel, love watching your reactions. You can see now when us oldies say we had the best music we mean it. Great to see the younger generation appreciating Classic rock. Regards from the UK. Stay safe.

Dude you're hilarious! A little known fact about LRO'er Me. The Who were known in the early days for smashing their instruments. At the very end of this song the drummer (Keith Moon) smashes his drum kit and that's what makes all the crashing noises.

This has always been one of my favorite songs by The Who. They performed it during the Super Bowl halftime show several years ago. Although Roger Daltrey's voice seemed somewhat strained in that live performance, it remains one of my favorite halftime shows.
@robincortez65864 жыл бұрын
I remember that, and I don't think there's been a decent halftime show since. Of course, The Who would be a VERY TOUGH act to follow!! I will listen to an aging Daltrey ANYTIME!!💟
