This was such an era for MTV. It was great because as soon as you outgrew kid channels like Disney, Nickelodeon, and Cartoon Network, MTV was there to fill the teen tv watching void. There were music videos to watch every morning and a variety of shows to watch throughout the day. Too bad they don't have much content nowadays.

MTV filmed an episode of MADE at my high school between prom of my junior and homecoming of my senior year. My friend was the contestant and it couldn’t have been more wild. The producer recorded hours of our conversations in class, and used me as one of the “Posse” they wanted to follow. They wanted me to identify every student in every frame of footage so they could get release forms signed and not have to blur people out. I didn’t know all 2500 people at school but was treated like an idiot for not knowing everyone or for not wanting to spend hours going through every still they sent. Not to mention how my friend was treated for “weight loss” even though she wanted to be on the dance team. It was a classic Tracy Turnblad situation where a big girl wanted to dance. Imagine being cast on MADE to become a dancer and your producer shows up and throws you in boot camp to lose weight. She may have mentioned wanting to slim down in her interview but she very much wanted to be a dancer, and wanted to sing the anthem at the homecoming game. The episode is absolutely terrible because my friend didn’t take to the cookie cutter boot camp stuff they did with her. Also, the only clip I’m in after hours of being the producer’s unofficial assistant was one fake-ass take they made me do where they wanted me to “pretend like it’s the first day of school and she’s lost a lot of weight and you’re excited to see her”. They filmed “back to school reveal” moments months later because she didn’t lose the weight they tried to force her to over the summer. I was then in another MADE episode filmed at my college a few years later. I was one of hundreds of students in a flash mob. Don’t know who the MADE person was and never saw the episode.

They came to my high school too! The school gave them permission to come for one week but they were so disruptive that after one day they weren’t allowed back. They also came to a party, there was a sign at the door that said “if you enter you consent to being filmed and that footage belongs to ___” and a some other legal stuff. There were producers walking around with black tape covering logos on T-shirts and drinks, and they didn’t seem to mind the teenagers drinking. The girl that was the contestant was this popular senior, cheerleader, and she auditioned with the idea of becoming a competitive boxer. I heard she picked it thinking “oh this is shocking, it will get their attention” but then didn’t think through what competitive boxing entailed. Needless to say she actually did give up at some point, so it didn’t air, as they only air the ones that they can spin “successful”.

A girl in my high school auditioned for, and was chosen for, Made! She never made it on TV though, as she did end up giving up. Her gimmick was that she was a cheerleader who wanted to be a competitive boxer… lol she knew it would get people’s attention, but wasn’t actually up for competitive boxing. I remember they were allowed to come to our school and film for one week, but after one day they were so disruptive they said they couldn’t come back again.

Man the Andy Milonakis show was a defining part of my childhood. My older sisters would watch stuff like Room Raiders and Date My Mom so I would just happen to watch along but Andy Milonakis was a show I would actually tune in to watch because I loved it so much. I really need to find the full series somewhere to revisit it. I feel so nostalgic watching the random clips that have been uploaded to KZfaq but there's so much gold not readily available online. Also crazy that he's a content creator now lol I don't like his new stuff but I'll always love the original show I don't think Wondershozen was ever on regular MTV (just MTV2) but that's another show I loved watching as a kid that made me feel like I was watching something I wasn't supposed to. I remember when that FEAR show came out. The first few episodes were great. They were scary and believable thanks to really good production and editing. The later ones not so much. Sure being in an abandoned and "haunted" location can be scary AF when youre alone. But when youre walking around with 3-4 people, with multiple lights and cameras. It really takes away from that alone and afraid factor. Like the very first episode. The production crew always made sure to force the contests to either leave the safe room alone. Or if they went out in groups. Force them to split up at some point.

Thank you for validating my hatred for the Andy Milinakous Show. I remember watching it in high school and thinking it was stupid.

I’m 34 with 2 teenagers now and I HAD TO SUBSCRIBE AND LIKE (currently binging your other videos) because the nostalgia is CHEFS KISS. I can’t wait for the 2000’s “real life” video with Bug Juice and “fat camp” and “dance camp” lol what the heck were we doing watching this at 13?!

So much nostalgia! They actually filmed an episode of made at my high school. I remember my friends and I bugging the camera guy everytime we saw him. They also did a casting for parental control at my school, my friend signed me up and I got a call from some production assistant and I was just so confused, lol
