Thank you! It’s amazing how it works. I write all my stressful and uncomfortable thoughts and do The work with them) before going to sleep or earlier during the day. Often I do it immediately when angry thought appears,and thanks God I do it🙏I can see that my thought was an illusion ,and because of this fake thought I could have been argued with my Son or Mum.And after or during The work all you feel is LOVE and it feels like I am LOVE myself,just PURE LOVE,and there are tears,tears of LOVE with smile. Thanks a lot.

As a trauma therapist for almost 40 years, this is good in dealing with surface alleviation of a situation. In part to get in touch with the power of thoughts. It can prepare the person to go deeper into their pain at a later time in the future. However, thoughts are fueled by unprocessed early emotions. Naming them as Negating emotions is negating the person and can hinder the person from processing them in order to retrieve the true person. The greater the wounding the deeper the issues or symptoms of trauma. Unless the roots of trauma are processed on 5 levels at least the hamster wheel of that cycle will resurface. The current circumstances are echoes of earlier wounds and the cycle will repeat itself later on.

I agree I think this method works for more everyday niggles and stuff that Is just starting so as to nip it in the bud. Deep seated stuff from years ago needs more processing of emotions.

I love how radical she is. Relationships don't work because we want to control and manipulate the others in order to get our needs (wants) met rather than respecting what they want or need. Whenever we want anything other than what is, we're arguing w/ reality and we loose, but only 200% of the time. Thank you BK for freeing me.

It just 'clicked' for me and I will continue to choose to believe it!!! I think the heart of Katie's wisdom is that we can choose to believe our thoughts or not. And when we continue to believe the thoughts we had during stressful, traumatic, etc. etc times in our lives, we continue to suffer. Because we believe about ourselves, the feelings we had/conclusions we drew in that situation! I think the worksheet serves to transport you back to that time and elicit the bare bones feelings/thoughts you had. And the 4 questions serve to prove to yourself that what you believed then (and if it is causing you stress now, you still believe today) is not true. This took me quite a while to process and I will say that I did read on her website and attempt the worksheet before watching the video. I think that helped me. Happy heart to all :)

An unexamined life is not worth living. Socrates. Katies work and ideas are not new, its Greek practical philosophy. The power of reason and investigation. Its so beautifully western and updated our times. I am sure she got here independently of Socrates and his Stotic friends but the core insights are the same. Sickness is a hindrance to the body, but not to your ability to choose, unless that is your choice. Lameness is a hindrance to the leg, but not to your ability to choose. Say this to yourself with regard to everything that happens, then you will see such obstacles as hindrances to something else, but not to yourself. Epictetus Kate comes at Socrates insight in this sentence An unexamined life is not loving itself.

The feeling of pain is the believe in something which is not true. Either try to find that believe or really go look at the pain without trying to get rid of it, not wanting it, trying to push it away. Just except it as it is look it it deeply, really try to feel what it is made of, let yourself sink into it and watch what is happening! Does the intensity change? If it stays like that, would you still be ok? If not, why not? Investigate! 😄😘

I am 62 and live on my own I know who I was angry at. I have been given labels autism schizoid BLPD I believe it was avoidant personality disorder. I have used oils and flowers essences and never changed and overcome my fear of intimacy. I have written poetry done DIY lost my interests in exercise and creativity and I hardly eat. I deceived myself by trying to be a flower therapist and reflexologist. I do not how to socialise. I left home 41 years ago because of my fear of other people. I have watched everyone on you tube except you. I view my thoughts in a loose detached way but they still control me. I am insecure and have a lot of anger and difficulty communicating. there was no secure attachment with my parents. started work in my 30's as I had epilepsy. I have a weak ego I can feel the stabbing in my solar plexus. I saw a NHS therapist who was sitting over the left hand side of her chair on my left which freaked me out she said you are sexually suppressed you are no good for therapy. I saw her years later in a therapeutic community and I had a breakdown. how can I use the 4 questions to talk myself out of this please?

Self inquiring is powerful to calm your anger and let go of your projections on others, but it doesn't work if you are dealing with addiction. Because you can forever beat yourself up with self inquiry and end up with smaller slice of life with people who are never emotionally available and no room for empathy for your need due to their addiction. Addiction is whatever escapism that compromise intimacy with their own feeling hence with other's feelings. I like her work but it's not comprehensive.

However, "The Work" is all about YOURSELF...and answering the 4 simple questions YOURSELF...mostly in regards to your unquestioned and unsolicited thoughts...which Katie claims is why we human beings suffer. I agree! On the other hand, as a long time professional Life & Spiritual Coach, I've also found that simplicity for most human beings to be much too complicated. Yep true! So we impatiently demand a quick fix. So here, slow down...REALLY! Namaste

but katie what about feelings feelings are innate
@rebelx3320
@rebelx3320 6 жыл бұрын
That's the whole thing she's challenging. Feelings are self-validating. What we tell ourselves subconsciously is that "I feel this way, and so it must be true." That's how we get sucked in. Katie presents to us that thoughts produce feelings. So if you feel badly about something, it's a sign to you that your thoughts are wrong. Rather than accept it wholesale that whatever you feel is innate, you can check yourself to see if your thoughts are reflective of the reality. If not, then you can re-examine it from different perspectives. Now, when that thought shows up again, you won't just attach yourself to it (attach means believe) and accept it wholesale as the truth. You are now more aware that there could be multiple perspectives. In so doing, you restore a better balance, and you are not so attached, and you are more allowing of directly engaging with the reality of things rather than through the filter of your own belief. As an effect, you will also have changed your feelings. And that's when you can really come to the understanding that feelings aren't just innate, they are constructed. And they are not there to tell us what to do per se. But rather as a beacon of light to tell us where we may need to examine more. Hope this makes sense to you

belief in anything,other than your Unperturbed, calm and peaceful nature,must imply an opposite.Sin = Holiness..This is a dream we live in. So,go ahead and do what you please.As long as your Self Pleasure does NO harm what so ever ,physically or Psychologically, to another living Entity,Then you attract the Law of the Universe..which we ALL are..living,breathig Conciousness.And yes,believe in your Masters..Christ,Buddha,Mohammed..all others ( since they also apperaed in this grand Illlusion,and guided peoples in their geographical areas,thru various times in History).because they ALL spoke of SOMETHIMG VASTLY GREATER...ELESWHERE IN CONCIOUSNESS..NOT SPACE....where we will all go.

some of this makes sense, but some of it is ridiculous. for example. the guy who said they were angry the other person continually payed bills late and incurred late fees. she said is it true and he said no. WHAT? clearly it is true and proof is in the past bills that show the incurred fees. and by denying it's true just because it's in the past keeps people from learning from experience. it is true, you can't change them, so either pay them yourself or accept their will be a late fee. another example: the woman who said she has been thinking for a few years the same thought that she is not as successful as she hoped she would be. when asked is it true, she said no. WHAT? i feel like these people are answering no because that's the answer byron is looking for. am i missing something? and did you ever eat a banana, is it true. YES. just because it happened in the past does not make it untrue. it just makes it the past. i could take a picture of myself eating a banana and that would prove it. again, i get the idea that we tell ourselves stories and that part i can accept but there's a bunch of BS that seems like people following the party line without thinking.

Jackie...Thanks for sharing. But, given what you wrote here, are you trying to tell others what their answers should be? Are you a psychotherapist? Fact is...that's a large part of Katie's work. Namaste

Hi Jackie, I think the issue is that when we answer the questions on the worksheet, we have to strip away what I process as 'extra stuff' and get down to the bare bones of the situation, the deepest part of how we felt during that time. In the video, Katie does not answer Q#1 as "I am angry at Paul because we are arguing about his smoking". She says.."because he won't listen to me". "He won't listen" is what is left when you strip the extra stuff, like the smoking and the kitchen, out of the story. Happy heart to all :)

There could be a lot of answers to why that man answered "no" to the question "Is it that true that she never pays the bills on time?" Here's one example, if she has ever paid even one bill on time, then the answer to the question is "untrue." That man knows the in's and out's of that woman he's talking about, it's not for us to speculate on the outside as to the particulars. BUT, here's the more important point, the "Is it true" question is really to make you step out of your subjective viewpoint of a judgmental lens. In fact, all four questions are doing the same thing. They are all trying to progressively get to you detach, detach and detach some more from the belief you're holding onto as being the only eternal truth that encompasses every possibility, every explanation -- in other words, omnipotent and omniscient. We all know that that is impossible for us humans. So you know (without necessarily knowing how) the back-of-the-book answer is that whatever opinion/judgment/thought you are attached to, with enough meditation, you will eventually come to see that it is not "true." The process of getting there is what frees you. And you have to "work" your way through it until it becomes your second nature. That's when you are free. Hope this helps. :)

What did she mean with the bananas 🍌 and the proof that you ate one? She said it’s not real because you don’t have proof and it doesn’t exist? And then with the rape example: she’s glad it’s over, she’s her own victim because she keeps reliving the rape in her mind. Does that mean it’s good that he only raped her once and she needs to stop thinking about it because in her mind the rape keeps happening? I don’t get it.

I've been watching quite some of her videos over the last two weeks and I felt that she was kind of jumping beetween her thoughts in this one a bit (maybe it was her xyth session and if this one would have been the first for me to see I would've been massively confused, too) - from what she said in the other videos I think she means it like that: you can't prove your thoughts. It is literally only in your head. That also means whatever you believe is real for you. But you can't prove to others that it's true and also you shouldn't because it is your own belief and therefore your business. Also you cannot change what others believe about themselves or about you, you can only change what you believe. And also also: if some thoughts reoccur again and again then chances are that you yourself don't believe either what you are telling yourself and it would be worth your while to investigate and find something more fitting and then the thought or situations like that will vanish little by little. She says the natural state is love and peace so if you feel other than that then it is your ego that wants to prove it's right rather than seeing your truth. At least that's what I got so far. If someone raped you then that is a truly traumatic experience of course. The work is - if I got that right - about that whatever (traumatic) experience you have, that the real trauma comes from how you think about that experience. So one part is as you already pointed out that if you revisit it again and again, it will traumatize you even more and also it will keep you in that state of mind even though it is in the past. But usually the reason why things traumatize us is how they change what we believe. Like I am a victim or I deserved that or maybe I provoked it or people are bad it will happen again anytime soon or that person deserves the same fate...stuff like that. And if you think like that it is war, but war doesn't in fact hurt anyone but you. So in that sense it would be freeing yourself to lose those thoughts and replace them with kinder thoughts (about yourself and other people). And leave the violence with the one that created it, for it is their problem. In one of the videos for instance she told about how once someone hold a gun to her head and that she was working through it in the moment to not be afraid or full of anger and someone (if I remember it right) couldn't believe it and said something like but this is so clearly wrong of that other person and she said somethin like but it is my life and if those would have been the last moments of my life I want to decide how to live them and I don't want to live them in fear or hate. So in that sense it's somethin like yes being raped is traumatizing but you deserve to not ruin your life over that. I am still a beginner at this so it's just how I understood it so far, no guarantee ;). If you are still interested maybe watch another session with her, there a plenty there that seem a bit more structured for "beginners" like us :)

interesting.. A lot of it overlaps yoga. witness, detachment. ability to change mood.. I have nothing held from a long time ago! due practice, so much 'american' interpretation goes into denial.. not grounded. Child abuse and rape happen! it is not the 'idea' in the head the person assaulted and traumatised. People can be independently unkind, to be deny abuse.. It is dangerous. Let go without!! In a rape case it IS him.. In child abuse It IS abuse.. It is not about fear, I let go pain around child abuse.. the let go! helped me.. I never had to make his action ok.. 40 yrs later, having imagined that forgiveness transformed him.. I found it had not.. He had continued to abuse.. I ummmmmmm . not sure where I am with this right now.. Some useful tools and yet there is a discomfort and denial in some of this.. Omm om om

I love Katie and The Work but I don't fully understand it in certain circumstances. When the girl in the audience mentioned rape, I didn't feel what she said was really answering the question. And it also seemed like she was avoiding it by comparing it to a slap in the face. Now this could be, as she said is such complicated "taboo" topic that they would not have enough time to even scratch the surface, makes sense. But I am still wondering how the work could actually apply to ANYTHING. It always seems that the fault goes back to the one inquiring. I may be missing something but as much as I can follow and understand The Work, their are a lot of unanswered questions or her simply avoiding or beating around the bush. I love you Katie but I am struggling with this and other parts of the work xoxo from south florida

There are far too many people like this out there making a fortune off ignorant people. This is not a spiritual teaching. No real teacher has an "experience" and immediately goes out and begins to teach. They don't know enough to do such a thing. Nonsense.....worksheets.....???

CC C...You're perfectly right of course! Those who are making lots of money are charlatans, huh? You ain't alone there. However, I'm one of those "ignorant" people you mentioned. And as a long time professional Life & Spiritual Coach (over 35 years) I've learned that, through many clients, that we're all ignorant regarding all the things there is to know. However, and for your information, Katie doesn't claim to be a teacher, Spiritual or otherwise. That's just your ass/u/me position. Teachers? There's loads of "teachers" ruining our kids minds in the American public school system. But you are right! Dead right! Namaste
