Awesome starting point : it is NOT different this time. It never is ! Every empire ruler had good reasons to believe their time was different too, sometimes even more so than we do, also we have more new over size challenge ahead and they grow much faster....

Great stuff Jay...I agree that the more things change the more they remain the same. And I agree that human nature is what fuels this persistence. I personally don't see how this will ever change until humanity faces the truth concerning propaganda. Namely that it's folly to consider it anything more than entertainment...kind of like watching the wizard of Oz.

Thanks Jay. If there is a change it is that the economic system is now an even smaller wheel inside the larger wheel of the biome. With climate change and species loss, the cycle will result in a world changed to a greater degree than humans have ever experienced before. The weakness of our economic systems has always been that we treat the environment as a commodity rather than as a sustaining base to the pyramid of life. The shift of empires is a small cog, part of a larger living planet.

In all honesty credit should be given to Oswald Spengler...a philosopher who's teaching where never accepted by Western society. It even goes back further than that actually to the European folktale of "Faust". Western society has always had difficulties accepting these concepts so anytime anyone out there tries to reiterate that society moves in cycles whether it be Ray Dalio or Jay, I appreciate the courage.
