In Saitama, north of Tokyo Japan, lies the the world capital of Bonsai: Omiya. Nearby the beautiful Bonsai Village is a museum that should definitely be on your list of places to travel if you want to introduce yourself to this wonderful art form, the Omiya Bonsai Art Museum.
We recently visited the museum to get the grand tour and introduction to what Bonsai is. They are small trees, but there is a lot more to this delicate art form made from plants. We explored some of the history of Bonsai, a few key figures in the world of bonsai and showcased some wonderful pieces that not only represent a vision by the artist but also are symbols of the patience required by an artist to achieve these beautiful works symbolizing the harmony between humanity and nature.
Not only that, we wanted to learn about some of the techniques in creating bonsai that may surprise you - it is significantly more hands-on than you may expect.
