The EMP Alert is built to give warning of EMP Attacks. The instantaneous nature of EMPs makes it impossible for civilians to have fair warning for the initial pulse, but the damaging phases that follow it can be countered if you know that an EMP has occurred.
The EMP Alert is available for a pre-order price of $139.00 until 6/11/2022 so take advantage of it today.

If at the time there's an ambient surge, from either an emp or cme, AND a homeowner is not within audible range of the detector, they might miss the short duration of the temporary alarm. Is there also a light that would remain on that could be seen when the homeowner comes back from the yard or garage, for example? Also, have you installed a ferrite and battery backup on your detector to protect it from an emp or cme in case the house is not adequately protected, and so it would still indicate an event, and which kind, had occurred? Finally, perhaps erroneously, I thought EMPs / CMEs happened so quickly that there wouldn't be time to respond and throw the main before the service panel took the hit. How much time would there be?

There are protective devices inside to help protect the unit from an EMP or CME. As for the latched on light, it's a good idea. It's not in this unit, but I'll keep that suggestion in mind.

While I appreciate Dr. Bradley's efforts with this alarm, there are so many instances where I wouldn't be in proximity to hear it. I WOULD buy the alarm in a minute if I could see a steady, lasting light telling me there has been an EMP as for the reason the power is out! I have the Siemens SP140 surge protector AND the Disaster Preparer Ferrites installed at home. I anxiously await the solution to cause the main breaker to trip itself. Question: I don't recall ever hearing why the panel's main breaker WOULDN'T trip itself during an EMP. Logically that should be the purpose of the main breaker, and maybe all we need a different, more sensitive breaker?
@disasterprepper
@disasterprepper 2 жыл бұрын
I appreciate your thoughts on this. We are working on a unit that would actively trip the breaker, but it's not in the Rev A model. Main breakers are very difficult to trip from overcurrents because the require about 10 x the rated current to trip very quickly. That's about 2,000 amps in a typical setup. At that level of current draw, your house equipment is already toast.

@@disasterprepper Look at multi-circuit contactors, find them Normally-Open and spring loaded. talk to the vendor about a semi-custom actuator that is powered hold on and reset - with power fail release (from Closed to Open). I've worked with Schaltbau North America before on some semi-custom contactors with success (not affiliated or compensated for this mention). They have off the shelf contactors for 1500VAC (and lower voltages) @ 320A which should cover most residential service applications. Put the detector on the supply-side of the contactor and have it interrupt the contactor coil circuit when power or the environment is out of spec. You could put that into a NEMA box between a meter and a breaker panel and call it a day.

How about making an alarm that alerts people when youre exposed to high levels of electromagnetic radiation since electromagnetic tech is becoming invasive from a health perspective? I don't know if my question is juvenile for asking but my knowledge base isn't anywhere near yours so I feel compelled to ask, even at 64 years of age. Would it be possible to create a portable unit that runs on batteries that could detect both an EMP and CME or would it be too late to do anything about either since by the time a device could detect them, the event(s) would already be in progress and the knowledge moot? I ask because IF you could get a 10 minute or more heads up warning, that could be a real boon to someone who had a medical device who could seek shelter to save their medical implant (pacemaker for example) from being instantly stopped and causing their death. I (think I) understand an actual EMP from a nuclear pulse would be impossible to predict, short of hearing a warning on the TV or radio that the nation was under attack, but even a CME event is oftentimes announced as predicted days in advance and an at-risk person could benefit from having a portable unit if they would be possible to create. Thanks for all of the information you provide. I Pray we all NEVER have need of the use of Faraday Cages and the like foe anything more sinister than a powerful CME but we live in perilous times.

It's not really possible to say what E-field it will trigger because that has a lot to do with pulse shape. Looks pretty useless to me. It doesn't disconnect anything from the grid, so by the time you hear the alarm and figure out what it means (presuming you are home) usually the damage is already done in over or under voltage problem. With a EMP that comes through the air, then all this did was tell you why your stuff isn't working. Over and under voltage protection has been around for a long time and even has auto disconnect, so this isn't offering much.

It is true that you can get an over/undervoltage detection unit that will warn of high or low voltages, but they would likely be damaged by the E1/E2 and never sound. Also, even if they continued to work and sound during E3, you wouldn't know that it was due to an EMP and would likely react very differently. The idea here is to get an initial warning that happens before the over/under voltage condition occurs. That initial warning also tells you that it isn't just a grid power issue, but rather that there was a powerful electromagnetic disturbance. That could be useful in deciding what steps to take. It's not a one-step everything is fine now sort of product, rather something that is used to work with other preparations.
@AC_metro
@AC_metro 2 жыл бұрын
But here's the thing. E1 and E2 pulses are very quick, like you said. I believe I read the E1 pulse can happen in a matter of nanoseconds. What's worse, the pulse is too quick to trip AC circuit breakers. Maybe the doc can clarify this? From what I understand, the E3 pulse, although slower, can last for several hours. So, for me, the E3 pulse sounds like the one that could cause over-voltages in my home's appliances and wiring, potentially leading to fire. So if an E1 and E2 pulse happens and shuts down power, but doesn't trip my breakers, then that E3 pulse will continue building up in my home. Again, I'm just going off info that Ive read over the years. So if I didn't already have an EMP Shield, I personally would purchase this just to know if an E3 pulse is building up in my home.

The "P" in EMP stands for "Pulse". EMP induced voltage spikes have extremely fast rise times and will fry the grid within microseconds. By the time this or any alarm could react, catastrophic damage will have already been inflicted on the power grid and everything connected to it. To claim that one could mitigate the damage to their electronics by strolling out to the breaker box and disconnecting it is ludicrous and quite frankly dishonest. This product does not pass the smell test.
@disasterprepper
@disasterprepper 2 жыл бұрын
That's not quite true. The "P" actually is a very complex pulse made up up three phases, E1, E2, and E3. Yes, the E1 and E2 will be over very quickly (within microseconds), but the E3 will take seconds or even minutes to build up. That's what's most likely to damage the grid transformers.

My purpose for this is solely to wake me in the middle of the night if there's an EMP. Not worried about saving the house power as the grid would be down anyway. Permanently. I figure if I'm awake at home, the office, the store or out driving, I'll know about an EMP right away... the lights will go out, the cars will stop running, and cell phones won't work. So if my wall EMP detector goes off in the middle of the night, at least I have a warning to throw the bug-out supplies in the truck and hopefully get the hell out of town before the strike. My truck has an EMP protector so hopefully I'll be able to go and go fast.
