Happy Birthday Ted, all the best from Bonnie Scotland. Mini 2 is a superb wee beastie, I've loved mine since its first flight. Will never sell it. The Mini 3 Pro was hugely frustrating, constant updates, bugs, features not working, focus issues, jello effect, etc completely stifled my creativity, in the end I gave up and sold it. From owning the Mini 3 Pro I learned one thing: give it a year before buying any new model of DJI drone, don't get suckered into being an unpaid beta tester. Still loving your videos Ted, am grateful for all the stuff you've taught me.

I think this is one of the best videos you’ve ever made. You’ve shown me something… creativity is in itself a talent… a talent I don’t seem to have lol but a talent. Well done, I wish I could see “scenes”.

thank you. wow i was VERY nervous to publish this episode. I’m new to making “video essay” type videos. It’s a VERY difficult yet subtle art of storytelling & editing to keep the viewer interested & engaged. I don’t think this episode is very good. But it’s a skill I want to develop. You say: creativity is a talent you don’t seem to have. You’re just wrong. "Children are born artists; the problem is to remain an artist as we grow up." - Jean Cocteau I highly recommend you read (or audiobook) RIck Rubin’s new book: THE CREATIVE ACT. We all have creativity within us. But our daily routines as an adult doesn’t require we use it (generally speaking). Being “an adult” usually means being pragmatic, making rational decisions. Not being creative. But that book by Rubin is about slowly learning to tap into the playful youthful creativity we all have.

Happy New Year Ted. I do love your channel. I tell you why, last August I spent over £800 on the Mini 3 Pro and fly more kit. Everyone was saying how great the mini 3 was. Two months later Dji release the mini 4 and they forget about their customers who own the older model. There is no way I will sell that drone for a Mini 4 for Dji to release a mini drone a 5 12 months later. Everyone are now making videos on the Mini 4. You make videos on showing us how to make great videos with our own drones. Thanks for showing how you make that transition, much appreciated. Also adding a LUT real made a flat image look great. Keep these great video's coming Ted.

Hi, Ted. That is a good point to remember. Often we forget why we purchased the fliying camera (or anything else for that matter) in the first place before another ad or KZfaqr convince us to buy something else or the latest based on their opinion. But at the end of all that is our very own fault in controlling our own urges to get the lastest toy "just because" When you are forced to use what you have creativity becomes part of you. But instead we succumb to the endless vicious cycle of buying the lastes toys. Thx!

Happy Birthday big guy, hope it was great for you! While I get a lot of inspiration from your techniques, the biggest takeaway for me - and something I always have to remind myself of - is to let the scene speak for itself, don't attempt to make the drone create something that simply isn't there. I realize there are exceptions here but since adopting this philosophy my footage is has improved so much.

Eric you are the man. LOVED your recent sunrise/bridge shot. Wow. And you said it perfectly…..let the scene be the star of the show and don’t try to overpower it with complex drone moves. There’s exceptions of course. But just speaking generally.

35mm film could potentially capture up to 20 megapixels, far greater than 4k (under 9 mp's). also, cultural taste has shifted to prefer those things, films dynamic range is also pretty great due to its natural rolloff. In many ways, digital is just catching up to what film already offered. You'll notice that we are able to get 4k remasters of films like "The Abyss", because our tv's and playback are finally ready for it. So, most people see old films and say "wow that looks beautiful, how can i make my videos look like that."

Hey Ted, I wanted to share a perspective on the unique bond one can form with a drone. It's not just a logical connection; it's more of a gut feeling. Have you ever watched "Silent Running"? That movie really makes an impact. You start to feel a connection with those drones, like they're silent guardians in a desolate space. Experiencing financial hardship can be strangely liberating. When you're at the bottom, you find comfort in unexpected places. The drone becomes a companion, a confidant amidst the chaos of an empty wallet. It's like a dance with destitution, a tango with the void. In the absence of material wealth, you discover the richness of unconventional bonds. The drone is more than machinery; it's an extension of your soul navigating life's turbulent skies. Despite financial struggles, riding high on the wings of a metallic ally makes you realize that sometimes, in emptiness, you find unexpected treasures. So, Ted, embrace that connection with your drone. Let it be your silent running companion in the vast uncertainty of finances. Who needs riches when you've got a fantastic plastic bird to share the journey with? It's a strange world out there, and sometimes, being broke opens doors you never knew existed.

Happy Birthday, Amigo. I love your creativity and your different take on the world of drones. I am slowly, very slowly, trying to move from that right hand group to the group on the left in your illustration. Owning many drones, all purchased because of some upgraded or new feature(s) from a current drone. It's a vicious cycle. I need to focus on _using_ the drones that I have rather than waiting for the next best thing. Great Video Ted. Couldn't agree more on the creativity. I have a career that is the opposite of creative. Consequently I spend all my free time drawing, writing music, and operating a "flying camera". Since starting drone flying I have a totally new perspective on the places I visit and where I live. Best thing I did recently was fly my drone over the place I grew up. Wow, really nostalgic and emotional experience. Unless you grew up in an airport I recommend doing that. Finally Ted, get some extra batteries. Seriously. Keep creating! D.

@@TedNemeth Well, you're doing great. What I'm aiming to do with my drone is to get video of prehistoric sites in the British landscape for a series about ancient Britain. One of the big lessons I've learned from your channel is the need to plan shots, not just throw the drone in the air and take random footage hoping for the best, though putting that into practice is another matter. You make it look so easy and I've come to appreciate how much skill is really involved. Anyway, just throwing this out in case it helps you with ideas, one thing that could be useful is more on planning and executing a multi-part video with different locations, like how you plan the story, get the right pace, and get a common look across the footage (where I know you say that the look is not just about colour grading but a whole lot more). Another thing that might be useful is about how you can make landscape features like mounds and earthworks look pleasing or dramatic, because many of those ancient British landmarks are not as photogenic as Stonehenge and consist of barrows and hill forts. Some of the issues might be static shots, dynamic shots, high shots, low shots, top-down shots, oblique shots, what works best, and perhaps time of day, and how it affects things if the narrator is in the scene or not.

Ted - Happy Birthday ! You have hit the nail squarely on the head. I was ahead of you in guessing that the 'greatest drone' would be the one you have available to you. So true - timeless wisdom that we so often overlook.. I never go anywhere these days without my drone and my camera..

I'm approaching my 1 year anniversary of obtaining my part 107. I have flown drones and RC aircraft for years, but I never thought my passion for aviation would turn into art. You are right about the drones gift of reconnecting with nature. Ever since I got my Mini 3 pro and now the Mavic 3 Pro, I find myself realizing beauty in everything. Thank you so much for your videos. Your an inspiration and I have learned many things from you and your videos. You've also sparked some of my creative ideas. Happy Birthday!!

I agree with you. Ya see, I'm supposed to leave Alaska this year to return to where i was born. A property inheritance. A prophecy. But as I was capturing Alaska from the sky I realized that I loved it here and how uniquely beautiful and isolated I am. Reconnected with the earth whenni captured an Amazing Alaskan Sunset as it dipped over the horizon and then silhouetted a mountain overlooking the mudflats. By the way, if your interested in seeing what I am talking about....... you may check it out in my channel. Thumbnail is a sunset. In Fact, I would love it if you would check out that experience that I had. I captured my awe in this short video. Anyway, not trying to promote my own stuff. Just trying to share my experience. Happy nature photographing by air

Thank you, Ted. From the beginning, I had no doubt about the message. As they say in photography: the best camera is the one you have with you. Anyway, a spare battery or two helps.

Richard I appreciate it my friend. Yup the best drone is the one you’re flying. I truly feel every drone makes is outstanding. I’m considering starting a second KZfaq channel using only the old DJI Trello / Spark.

Accidentally flew my Mini3Pro into a lake about a month ago🐟..... I totally think I bricked it! 😵 But for Christmas I got a Mini4 Pro! and with the tracking rings, waypoint flight, and night mode.... Lets just say im not missing my M3P, but I did recover it from the bottom of the pond the next day.. My sad little M3😊😉

Yes sir ... we "consumer adicts" are always wanting to buy buy buy ... and get the latest and greated that we can "almost" afford (but can't). I'd be willing to bet that a huge percentage of drone owners (evern Part 107 folks) are lacking in the creative and piloting skills, and yet have some of the latest and greatest hardware. Love you videos. Keep up your get work and your enjoyment. (I'm a 76-year-old geezer, and time is definitely fleeting). Cheers, Chuck (North East Florida)

Ted, Happy Birthday, your inspiration has pushed me to new heights, your passion is infectious, I thought I was a passionate person but you take it to a new level. I have these random thoughts in my head and you have justified everyone of them. It is like random iron filings that stand to attention when a magnet is applied. You have simplified everything, almost a modern William of Ockham, applying the law of parsimony "Entities must not be multiplied beyond necessity" Therefore, you state that Mini 2 is the best drone. Like you I have been through many guises but I feel I have found my calling.
