Oof. The "nevermind" hit me hard. My ex is deaf and I learned quickly that was an absolute smack in her face. I felt so bad.

Thank you for the insight on what to expect for my little guy as he grows up. He is 6 now and totally refusing to use hearing aids at all, so we are focusing hard on his ASL and lip reading.
@Tzreoaor6 ай бұрын
This is something to bless you and your family. If you associate the hearing aids with a positive memory for him it will change everything around. One idea I have for you is to take him somewhere in nature in the morning to listen to the birds and identify them. If you pull up a video of your local native bird species’ calls and have him listen to it to train his ear for the big day. Then once you go in person with him he will form such a positive impression and learn sound pattern recognition at the same time. He just needs a good reason, guidance, and love to depend on his hearing and see the benefits of having hearing. At his young age he associates the hearing aids as negative because of how they feel/look on him. This is a moment in his life where your influence and guidance can mean the difference between him giving up/accepting his hearing being handicapped or him learning to live with the discomfort of the aids because the positives outweigh the negative. You’re a great father, show him how to triumph through adversity. You can do this.

Yep. If someone asks you what you said, please just repeat it. It sucks to be left out.

Uuugggghhhh these are soooo relatable!! I have some hearing loss and asking people to repeat things is always a nightmare. Most of the time I just laugh or agree to whatever cause I really just don't feel like asking them more than twice.
@hedgehogshill35226 ай бұрын
When they just speak really REALLY slowly and overpronouncing instead of just saying it a bit louder. Or they just scream... yeah

@hedgehogshill3522 IKR!! The only thing worse is when they're like "Nevermind, nevermind" and I never get to find out what joke they were trying to tell me 😭😭😭

Recently my hearing went to it's low side, so at work I got my hearing devices, one side went out, then the other, in an hour, it was late spring since I used them, so I had to rely on pointing for the rest of the day, but that's one why I'm there, to learn what to do, from people with experience, both from my Deaf coworkers strategies, and my Hearing coworkers, some of which have other experiences with Deaf, nonverbal, ASL, in addition to my Deaf coworker teaching everyone how to accommodate, I've learned sooooo much in the past year, and I get to see that accommodation from both sides~

❤❤❤ I have the opposite problem, super super super sensitive hearing and a lot of sounds can shut down my nervous system so I have to wear noise cancelling earbuds with stuff playing -- very similar struggles though, we guna be alright 😇 I promise

I feel this, because I'm going blind. For now I can see ok, but later, well, don't know what will happen. The deaf people I've met are wonderful, I work at the airport, and they are such a delight for me. I always hope I am mouthing the words correctly.
@Tazazak9 ай бұрын
I’m so sorry you’re going through that. How long do you expect until you are unable to see anymore?
@cynthiabonner4749 ай бұрын
@Tazazak with contacts, I'm fully sighted. But I don't know how they work to help me, or how my eyes degrade. I'm 63 now, 40 years more of life, and I'd be pushing my luck for real even being alive. I am in God's hands, he helps me get through anything. 20 years ago, I had my surgeries, and with regular tri-focal glasses, I could see great! I cried the day I got glasses. After being mostly blind before and after surgery. I wasn't allowed even glasses until after I healed. It was very hard. But I endured it. Sometimes things happen in life that you don't expect. I am grateful I am not sick, only slow. I really should begin writing again. I started a fairy tale, but it needs to be put together and organized so it's enjoyable. Seeing is part of the deterrent. I am working, but to write, I need to focus on it hard. Literally schedule it.

Saw the coolest scary movie and the main characters in the movie all spoke sign language because one of their friends was deaf and they were trying to conjure a demon. 😊😊😊😊 The art in that was facinating

having tinnitus is like an electric ocean constantly crashing, the words are hard to describe, it's always there so you learn to tune it out.

I am not deaf but I do understand a few of the things shown in this video (mainly the need for things to be repeated, not catching everything people say, and needing closed captions). I can only imagine it's even worse for people who are deaf.

the most annoying thing is when you say you can't hear them when they're turned away, so they playfully cup their hands around their mouth to repeat it, which somehow makes it worse lmao

I went for a walk in the park today and it was much less busy than it had been the few days prior. The weather was a little colder today. I remember about half way through the park thinking how quiet and peaceful it was. There can be beauty in silence. I wonder how someone who is hearing impaired feels about that.

It really depends! Deafness is a spectrum and not all people are candidates for cochlear implants, much like not all people who need glasses are candidates for Lasik surgery. So the hearing aid might give them clarity for medium frequencies, but they could remain unable to perceive high frequencies.

When I asked to for captioning, there are people complain about that that they didn’t like having things get in the way. It makes me feel dead inside. If they really don’t have close captioning, it is okay.
@noahdemetrio76665 ай бұрын
@@Jetiospaghettio I also have auditory processing issues. I'm from Brazil and I don't know how getting accommodations works in other countries, but here every semester my college professors get an email that specifies which students need accessibility accommodations and basically instructions on how to make stuff accessible for those students, so if they decide everyone has to watch a video or movie and it doesn't have captions they have to either find an equivalent one with captions (and they have to change it for everyone, not just the disabled students) or find a way to make it accessible somehow. Same with reading material, projects, tests, etc.
