found pictures of the engine (google Dallara_T02_Nissan)... cam covers looks fairly normal, tho its a different type forming a sort of girdle with the cast timing cover (probably as the engine is a stressed member in the Formula car). I also see a drysump and ITBs not too different in length and diameter, but they point straight up. Exhaust runner length also seems similar

previous engine with 420hp @9200 rpm and threw a rod is a good combo that would just need rods. The Dallara_T02_Nissan would have used higher compression, exotic fuels, special crankshaft and titanium bits where they could to rev to 1000 rpm more than this budget setup. Sascha is like titanium conrod in weight that helps plenty.

This would literally be the perfect application for supercapacitors. They're lightweight regen great and then you can charge the battery as well. And it would also help buffer the batteries.
@J-Eagan
@J-Eagan 5 жыл бұрын
all the boost Yeah it would but cost and weight for super caps aren’t too great at the moment. Plus it greatly complicates the charging and discharging process that’s already going to be somewhat tricky to control. But I’m curious to see where it goes, I really like the ambition Saha has for this project.

@jessev9686
@jessev9686 5 жыл бұрын
Crz electric motor is part of the block, not the transmission (though the transmission can accept 8th gen Civic si lsd, it does have a little extra space for the electric motor). However, would absolutely be amazing with a turbo Dorito!!! Even as a range extender, having a small electric motor would help, but I also have your dream. The v6 Accord hybrid had an electrical motor and wattage better than the crz, though still nimh and not lion in the battery refresh.

Amazing. Some questions for Sasha if he cares to answer them maybe next video. Is this still a DE block or the taller deck height HR block? I presume by the cam bucket conversation that this is still DE heads, not the rocker type 3.7 heads. What’s the new stroke compared to stock? I know the trucks 4.0 use a 92mm stroke compared to the 3.5s 81.5mm. Are these off the shelf S2000 rods that are used to create a ‘long rod’ engine for reduced piston side load or some other reason? How high are you going to rev this engine? Is valve train or piston speed the limiting factor? Excellent video, hugely intriguing. Best of luck!

2"-2.125" stepped primaries slows air speed way too much. 1-7/8" primaries is optimal, and proper 3.5" merge collectors. It will pump up the midrange, and the engine will accelerate faster.

The 911 RSR / GT3 R engine makes 550hp out of 4.0 liters, but that is with the restrictor installed. Even the street version of that engine with the less aggressive tune, street-legal exhaust and street-legal enclosed intake makes over 500hp.
@Fee.1
@Fee.1 5 жыл бұрын
How hard is it to take a 911 motor and make it as close to a R or gt3 motor
@meteormedia7021
@meteormedia7021 5 жыл бұрын
@@Fee.1 You mean like a normal 3.4 Liter engine out of a 991.1 Carrera? Literally nothing is the same, you'd have to change everything. With the 991.2 or 992 its even more difficult since these are effectively a later generation of engines and even more stuff changed - including that they are now turbocharged and have lower compression and a smaller bore size. I suppose you could theoretically turn a regular 991 3.4 Liter N/A into a GT3 engine, but you'd literally have to change everything, including boring out the block by 5mm per piston. And also you'd have to get a lot of very expensive parts like titanium valves, bolts and rods, forged pistons, forged crank and so on. But basically it could be done, because they basically all share the same block, albeit with two different bore sizes. Could be done, but would be very expensive because you'd have to upgrade every single part.
@gt1r
@gt1r 5 жыл бұрын
Fee impossible. Well, nearly impossible.. but for the money you would spend modifying the 911 motor would outweigh just buying a 991.1 GT3.
@meteormedia7021
@meteormedia7021 5 жыл бұрын
Elliot Davis Nah. Completely revising the engine with machine work and new parts would maybe cost you about 20-30k but not nowhere near what a used GT3 costs
@gt1r
@gt1r 5 жыл бұрын
Meteor Media Turning your standard 991.1 Carrera engine into to 991.1/2 GT3 engine is much more difficult then just stroking the engine to 3.8/4.0L. The GT3 engine uses many light weight components that come directly from the 911 Cup Car and 917. Those light weight components allow the engine to rev so high, a critical component of the GT3 engine. Those light weight internals (titanium connecting rods, crank case, cylinder heads, etc) that help the GT3 achieve a 9k RPM redline would also be incredibly expensive to make. In addition, you would need to retrofit your standard Carrera engine with a dry sump, a much bigger intake, a new ECU, etc. Porsche parts aren’t cheap, and mechanics that specialize in Porsche’s aren’t any cheaper.

I don't think he should be too concerned with losing any 'higher pitch exotic' sound, there are many other factors having a more significant affect on the sound, not the least of which is the camshaft(and it sounds like there's is pretty rowdy too!). Being a car guy first, but a V8 guy second, here's some domestic V8 examples... Ford Mods 4.6l - 90.2mmB x 90.0mmS 5.0l Coyote - 92.2mmB x 92.7mmS 5.4l - 90.2mmB x 105.8mmS Pushrod Fords 302/5.0l - 101.6mmB x 76.2mmS 351/5.8l - 101.6mmB x 88.9mmS 429/7.0l - 110.8mmB x 91.2mmS LSx LS1/5.7l - 99mmB x 92mmS Gen3 Hemi 5.7l - 99.49mmB x 90.88mmS Point being, of those engines, the Ford Modular V8s are known for being pitcher high RPM screamers, the most exotic sounding of contemporary domestic crossplane V8s. Even the last GT500 5.8l is known to be a higher pitched screamer. This, in spite of being from nearly square to heavily under-square bore:stroke compared to its notably deeper, bass-ier marketplace competitors and earlier Ford 'ancestry', who are decidedly over-square(even if they've balanced the bore:stroke much more in newer engines). Mind you, this isn't down to the Mod motors being 4-valve vs the 2-valve pushrods - the 2- & 3-valve Mod motors are certainly more similar sounding to the 4-valves Mods than any of the pushrod examples. Crank up the cubes - the sound definitely won't get worse!

So when the engine goes in the car and tuned, is it going on back on track with that set-up or with the hybrid in place? Lap times of the most powerful na vq would be awesome to see. I also take it that super charging, like Sasha had mentioned before, is no longer happening? If the engine is reliable where is Sasha going to campaign this thing?

Did I miss it, or did they not specify how much RPM this engine can take? It's a 4.2-liter with a stroker crank, but it has big ITBs, massive primaries on the headers and they're looking for crazy all-motor power, guessing it'll see 8,000+ RPM to flow enough?
@eliasmelendez1271
@eliasmelendez1271 5 жыл бұрын
Most likely that engine is scavenging to gain topend horsepower and allow to rev higher than normal. Scavenging is bleeding off some compression to create stronger vacuum on the exhaust side to create a stronger vacuum on the intake side which in case creates more horsepower in the topend. That engine should sound nasty on the dyno. I also noticed the headers design, definitely made for scavenging. F1 technology implemented in this engine.

Hmmm it seems like a very expensive route to go to hybridize this motor when Nissan already sells the VQ35HR in hybrid form.... Obviously you guys have an insane amount of work into this block already and if you wanted it to function closer to a KERS system than I suppose custom build is the only way to go. Personally I would have loved to see how far the stock hybrid motor could go.

What is the name of the Switzerland company!? Read through 100+ comments and several searches and can't find any Switzerland formula e suppliers. Would love to track down companies other than Schaeffler (German) who make similar products and supply formula e.
