Or a dedicated shift button that doesn't use the encoder switch, and a change in light color to let you know you're in "shift" mode.

Got this one wrong, it's not just for VR also very handy for anyone struggling to set radio's & much more. Have to man up on my last comment. With beyond atc for me it's as important. Like the switches & pick it up ASAP. Nice job on the demonstration. Slainte, Mike

Looks like a beautiful piece of kit. As you mention though it is small, and small doesn't always lend itself to feel when in VR. As you get used to it, please do a video review of how the layout feels while in VR? A friend builds his own breakout boxes for himself and and spends quite a bit of thought into good natural finger spacing and layout order between buttons and dials (certain buttons have a dot on them like a keyboard F and J for example) for VR use. Result is a bit more chunky, but easy to reach out and put your finger on the right button without looking.

I think the shift is great but it needs a blue led shift light that turns on so you know you are in shift mode. Very excited about this product. I own the VRInsight m-panel which had a similar concept, but this has potential to be programmed well outside of the m-Panel and it’s far more sleek. This company could offer modular addons with faceplate templates that can be swapped out and perhaps work in a daisy chain. Hope they come out with a mini switch panel for lights, engines, flaps, and gear.

There's a little raised nub in the middle of the unit that would be a perfect location for a blue led to notify one of shift mode.

Very cool. This is pretty much what I did with a Stream Deck+. It's a great idea. You basically take many if not all of the functions that are tied to rotary knobs and let you select it then spin the knob.

I’m hoping this knob could be integrated into a stream deck XL profile. I’m planning to buy the full version app for the iPad that allows you to load two XL profiles on one glorious screen.

@@ambivert1970 Don't know about that but I will say the Stream Deck + is worth every penny... I even use it when I'm in VR. It is amazing. I made a cool transponder panel for my a2a comanche on it, as well as full radio and autopilot pages. Tis awesome.

How did you do that ... in MSFS ? I cant find a solution. I used SPADNEXT to use a switch on Alpha Yoke to change the MAP Range on AS1000 MFD (not G1000 ??)- then it all fell apart - nothing else seemed to come together - especially for G3000. Im only looking for Garmin knobs really. 3-5 ? Map Range, MFD inner Outer, PFD Inner Outer, The buttons seemed easy - I couldnt even get FLT PLN on either G1000 or G3000 or AS1000 or whatever else I dug out of the endless list, to work with SPADN. I couldnt even get Fuel Pump switch to work properly. I watched many videos, and Les O'Reilly seemed to indicate MSFS Garmin interface is a Kluge. I will keep up with SpadN pretty likely. If this device is $300 this is a far better answer than long hours of learning curve. Unless your into that... I used to be.
@JohnVanderbeck

@@marcw.5492I haven't tried it with the G1000 but I"m 99% certain it can be done, as I've seen DIY G1000's that work. I did mine for the A2A Comanche and its systems, and I used Axis and Ohs. Took a lot of digging to find the right variables/events and working on my transponder panel which I'm very proud of was a nightmare, as MSFS only has a variable for the whole code so I had to write a ton of math, IN RPN, to split out each digit lol.
@marcw.5492
@marcw.5492 10 ай бұрын
Yeah - thats kinda what gets left out of the discussion, I tried Spad Next and Les keeps writing back that there are ways - and he has made lots of videos. But I cant get anywhere. Not worth it as mostly I have found with software add ons. I am going to try Air Manager - which I think may work well with MSFS and the Knobster - or buy this cool device. No matter what I have tried I cant get around the knob turning fiaso in MSFS... I tried in XPLANE which works but not really. At least touch screen seems to work - Now I have Space Desk causing errors with my other monitors after NVDIA drive update ... gahhhhh Time to Fly@@JohnVanderbeck

A couple of points: there are two AP buttons but no FLC and at least three buttons that don't have a secondary function. I'm not sure of the "shift" mode either because each button already has two possible functions (momentary press or press and hold) so it would seem unnecessary to have a shift function. Nice slick form factor though and all of the shortcomings could be overcome using Spad.

Hi, About the transponders question: Codes are made of four octal (a numeral system with 8 as a base) digits; the dials on a transponder read from zero to seven, inclusive. Four octal digits can represent up to 4096 different codes, which is why such transponders are sometimes described as "4096 code transponders." 🇫🇷

i wished there would be some kind of indication, when the blue shift functions are activated or not (you experineced the confusion once you used it for the first time @07:35). since they cant add an LED for anymore, maybe a firmware update could make the existing light LEDs blinking (for example) when the shift mode is active.
@ambivert1970
@ambivert1970 11 ай бұрын
I’d prefer the leds that change from white to blue to maintain color scheme but blinking is something they could implement in a software patch or perhaps firmware upgrade. Very cool idea.

This may be a problem solver for those of us that use tobii eye tracker or similar. Trying to make adjustments to AP on the fly can be tough when using a mouse. Im not particularly a fan of building out a physical flight sim as I try to stay immersed within the sim itself. This might actually contribute to the immersion though as fiddling with a moving knob when using eye/head tracking is frustrating.

None of the transponder digits ever go above 7. Going back to the early days, it minimizes how much data needs to be sent. 0-7, or 8 options requires 3 bits of data to be sent for each digit. Adding 8 or 9 would require another bit for each digit, but now you're using enough data for up to 16 characters on each digit, so unless you want to use numbers and letters in each space, you're wasting space.

I only really want it to operate GNS/Radios/Transponder. I already put my Bravo Quandrant's AP panel to good use and I have a 5 encoder panel. I currently use a mini keyboard a couple of encoders to handle the GNS. But the encoders aren't dual. This device would save a lot of money over buying a Flightsimbuilders or RealSimGear GNS.

I agree it is too small and what's more if they made it just a tad bigger you wouldn't need to deal with the shift modes and locking out certain logical functions like press to sync, etc. I don't know if this is targeting a very specific niche of people who need a micro sized panel or not.

Thats part of the problem with most addon devices, the complexity of "infinite customizability. The fact that you have simplified the MSFS issue with Knobs for the Garmin equipment is enormous, and dedicated functions at this point for me are quite the focus. Most / All Garmin PFD MFD screens is a large category. PLus it only requires USB connection , no touch screen / video connection additions required.

I bought the Loupdeck Live and I am not that impressed with it so far. Also, I have put a hold on buying anymore hardware now that MSFS 2024 has been announced - what if you invest in hardware now, and it does not work in the new version of MSFS 2024. I was very skeptical when Microsoft decided to release a new version of MSFS, it smells to me like they have found a unfixable issue/development restriction that requires the whole software base to be re-built rather than push out a update. This worries me as to whether hardware add-ons being sold for MSFS 2020 will be able to be ported over to MSFS 2024.

I wanted to review it because I think it's incredibly well done and definitely is very useful. I have put down many products before that were provided to me.
