The lack of a physical parking break or hand break. There is nothing like puking up on that brake and hearing the brake notch into place. Not just pressing a button…

When you need to adjust things like that on the go, you should not need to look away from the road. It is way safer to have a bunch of buttons and knobs than a big screen. Also i like buttons and knobs so i prefer them anyways.

Imo the late 90s - early 2000s VW climatronic was just the perfect amount of technology in climate control, a small tf display with all information you could possibly need and very intuitive button placement so if you needed to adjust anything it wouldn't take your sight off the road for more than a sec

The most disturbing trend to me is the proposition of removing right to repair on newer cars as technology gets better. I know it's not here "yet" but has been a back and forth discussion for a little while now. I still want to work on my own vehicles, I still want to maintain them, and I don't want a dealership or company "owning" my right to repair it, or tune it.

Yup.. just simple everyday cars I remember a pickup you used to pop the hood and saw daylight on the ground there was so much room. You could sit on a fender with feet on inside of engine bay to work on them. Now.. it's a mess. Designed so an every man can't work on them anymore. Just physically..not to mention the tech part where you need a special this or that..the computer program..Yada Yada. Can't nail it down off top of head but there was a year of a balance..more tech etc but you could still pop the hood and fix it at home. Ls1 or Ls3 days maybe..dunno

10000000% agree with the last point about buttons and knobs needing to make a comeback. Screens are nice to have and certainly have their place, but it's a driving hazard if I need to scroll through a bunch of menus on a screen to turn on the AC vs. pressing one button on the dash.

Having worked for and owned a new generation Mazda, one of the biggest things that gets me is all the new "safety" features that are absolutely useless. We don't need all these sensors for people around us or telling us when to stop or slow down. All thats doing is making bad drivers worse, because they stop paying proper attention. Self driving cars is a perfect example of this.

Worst thing about new cars is the lane assist or collision warnings. Anytime you turn or do anything that doesn't involve perfection at any time, alarms and lights freak out! If I do as much as swerve away from something in the road (like road kill) my car takes over and steers itself right back in the middle of the lines and I have to fight it to not hit something. Or if I'm switching lanes next to another car, my car freaks out because it thinks I'm going to hit someone, when they are in a totally different lane. It's too much
@LuisGarcia-mx7is

Another point to this.....it's making the drivers desensitized. God forbid they use someone else car that doesn't have this tech. They might get into an accident due to the fact that they were counting on the car to warn them of the car (or person) that was there that they could have seen by merely LOOKING WHERE THEY ARE GOING!

I love how every one says make your car your own then every one jumps on them for doing it. I agree car manufacturers should never make fake anything. But making your car look more angry or sporty. Why is that bad? Who cares if it doesn't serve a bigger function. Why not get rid of the radio. Does make your car faster. Only makes it more enjoyable for the driver. Just like making your car stand out by their looks. If you don't get a little crazy. Then every car will look and sound the best. The only thing will make it stand out is horsepower. I love horsepower. But it's only one small part of a car. I love that care community is so diverse. Even if some people say half of what we do is wrong. Don't forget get. The people who started all this. Didn't do every thing for function. They made a statement. I swear every other day your Chanel makes content on how wrong we are to do this.

Plus all the memories of my biological father are awesome. Since I lost him to his own hand in '91. Bit anywho, that's my thoughts on Rollin Coal. Just make the fake vents REAL VENTS and PROBLEM SOLVED! Because you are 100 percent correct. Whenever I walk up to any vehicle, I look and instantly gain respect or loose respect depending on whether it's FAKE or REAL. A cheap little car with a REAL vent, I can respect that. An Expensive car with a REAL vent, I definitely respect that. A cheap little car with a FAKE vent, I can understand that but I laugh and SMH. But an Expensive car with a FAKE vent or non-functional hood scoop, I definitely have absolutely NO respect for that. So I stand with you on that.

I think the wort trend is fake exhaust tips on the back of cars like the couple Mercedes’ models that the exhaust dumps out the bottom and they glued a fake tip on the back. Or dual exhaust with a bunch of extra tips. Anything works as long as it’s got a function generally speaking. Only exception in my mind is electronic e brakes I don’t like pressing a button on the cars just throw a good ol parking lever or pedal.

I understand alot of people like this because it does put a lot of the light on the ground on level streets that have no hills. Also, since those headlights have a cutoff on the top (to not blind the car in front of you) you don't see the road signs. Then the High Beams come on and apparently some people do not know how to turn those off! Very annoying when it's the car behind you. I swear I feel like installing a mirror back there sometimes!

And not to mention,it wears out the starter way sooner than it should, compared to a regular idling car. The start/stop feature doesn't save but a fraction of fuel compared to an idling vehicle, and does wear out the starter in just a little over a year or so, depending on how much you drive your vehicle. I'd rather have a starter last 10 years, with idling, versus a starter with the start/stop feature, only lasting two to three years,if that long, depending on how much you drive/traffic you're in.

I gotta say the most annoying trends are a tie between all the “modernizing” ones that are honestly only more inconvenient than the old version of it

The most super annoying trend is the plastic cover on anything. Let's see the naturally aspirated good old 4 cylinder anytime I pop up the hood

EV cars with grills are just design, that's their car design, you cant recognize BMW or Audi without their grill mark, it's not just a fake grill its more like a trademark...

Even though Carmakers are trying to produce cars with better fuel efficiency, they do things that have a significant negative effect on MPG. You mentioned big grills. What about big wheels and wings and spoilers? Big wheels are heavier, and the tires are a lot more expensive. Also, low-profile tires give you a rougher ride and make your wheels more vulnerable to damage.

Pretty much all the trends you have mentioned including Plasti Dip. No offense to anyone using plasti dip, it's just that it's better to buy quality paint, pay someone to either paint your car and rims, or pay someone to wrap your car.

I definitely agree with too much screen with menus you have to dig thru being annoying. What is worse IMHO is too many knobs, buttons, switches and screens and menus that don't match in the same car! Example: 2013 Honda Accord. I love the car, but hate the dash and controls. Good Example: 2015 VW Golf TDI Sportwagen. I love the simplicity of the dash, the round knobs that actually control the volume, surf stations and heat/cool/fan speeds and yet it still has a touchscreen surrounded by buttons and digital readout between the round analog looking speedometer and tachometer. It is much easier to turn a knob or click a button while driving when you can feel it and find it with muscle memory 🙂 But digging through a menu while driving is potentially dangerous.

Most annoying to me, is the giant, honking cat back on a 90s Camry, and the ridiculously giant wing.

Ya, turning on or off your A/C or using climate control with a touch screen also sounds dangerous while you're driving. I'd learn how to use them before going on the road.
