The only thing that came from this episode was that Danny and Derek were split. I like that they split actually cause it shows young black kids that you don’t have to stay friends with racist people, which may seem like basic knowledge but there’s definitely people who need to see that message. Other than that this episode was garbage. You’d think with the two of them split they’d be less annoying but it’s more like Derek just absorbed Danny’s annoying parts and become worse.

The fact that Derek does this to his only black friend, only friend in general, is bananas to me. There’s no teachable moment after it either, it’s just him being a creepy loser and then Danny forgiving him because Derek is his only friend too !!! This could have been an empowering ‘That’s so raven’ moment where they call out the racist shopkeeper and Derek’s clear small white kid superiority complex, but no. We just get panties and blue balls to the discussion of putting racism in its place.

I wouldn't have taken Derek back after that.

My favorite Degrassi moment is Marco chasing Spinner who is choking to give him the heimlich, but Spinner is running away because he's homophobic.

Derek and Danny were just there. I often forgot that Danny was Liberty's little brother. That whole season was kinda just meh tbh 🤷🏾‍♂️

Silver lining; Danny slowly stopped being friends with Derek and became friends with Sav, Peter, and Spinner. Then STUDZ was formed. Greatest Degrassi band of all time.

Another cringey episode was that super preachy one when Emma’s college friend took a brownie and “missed her insulin” …..

Manny and Damien's mutual split banter turning into gossip is actually one of those little Degrassi storylines I really love. Like most degrassi moments it could have been written better, but I personally feel like for Damien its the most complicated and layered he'd been in the show and its the LACK of writing for him that does it. Which is ironic lol. I kind of like that even tho it's just their twisted words that start the rumor, Damien has that petty moment of contemplating letting the rumor hold and I'm just kind of here for it. It's really a shame they made him so much more cardboard after. They accidentally set it up to make Damien a really complicated character. Such a missed opportunity.

I'm going to agree with you that Degrassi has always been terrible at writing any episode that deals with race and I honestly cant think of a single episode where it is well done. But I have a soft spot for Danny and Derek; they are just so corny it starts to become adorable after a while. Also when you are a young teenage girl it seems like all the boys around you act like "double D" which isn't true but it definitely feels that way alot of the time. So I appreciate the attempt at representing that. My least favorite episode of Degrassi is the one with the energy drink where Emma is gets naked for no reason.

I like Danny a hell of a lot more then Derek in Season 8 he started separating himself from Derek and became more mature in the show Derek was always a bully let’s not forget how Derek and Jimmy first met he does have some moments of decency but overall Derek was a character who was portrayed as a Jerk

That woman couldn't hide her racism anymore if she tried, she was practically wearing it on her sleeve. Most people try to hide it behind some backhand comments, but not this woman. Also, I started doing something recently and it was called worst of [insert show] [insert show season #] and I was talking about the worst episode of those show's season. I recently started doing that for each season of Degrassi until I got to Next Class. Maybe that's something you can do as a video idea.

A, I agree with you, I always hated this episode. b. wtf is with Darek DIRECTLY in the girl's personal space. Like, he goes over and asks her out and he's like closer than you need to kiss someone. c. Emma is a horrible bitch in this episode and on my first watching I was a Emma defender but once you get here... ugh. And ofc all the other times you notice that Emma is not great. I mean poor Archie. HE didn't do anything either. HE is suffering with this too.

Someone in the writers room really came up with “you’re only good at stealing, and you stole her from me” and thought, “fuck yeah, that’s brilliant”

I just got through watching this episode and it was truly ridiculous. Like everyone has been saying Degrassi does not handle race well but I appreciate the attempt. I always had a soft spot for Danny and Derek. I loved how in Season 6 the were JT's backup in the whole Degrassi/Lakehurst beef, they felt like some ride or dies. Emma was always annoying but she was still one of my faves. I always hated Darcy for what she did to Snake. I don't care what she was going through she was wrong for that and it made me really not like her character. Her and Peter deserved each other.

At least Danny matures and grows away from Derek in the later seasons.

I stumbled across this channel by accident but found it to be a delightful surprise . That is , considering no one's really having theses open discussions of the writing style or the developing storyline of DNG anymore. But anywho to the point - I 1000% percent f**ckin agree. Excuse my french, but when I tell you that I dragged myself , FORCED myself - nearly crawled myself after season 8 ALL THE WAY into the finale - I legitimately mean I taped my eyelids back . This show astronomically plummeted after all the original cast members left. The last season - season 14 , was simply atrocious . It doesn't even end there , just when I thought the torture was finally over I STILL had to finish the last 4 episodes of s14 , episodes 24 - 28 . Also known as the mini movie pilot that was set up to introduce Degrassi Next Class. As it turns out , the movie was a complete and utter sick joke . I was genuinely offended that the writers and producers would be so careless enough to produce and air something with an extreme lack of substance . The entire thing was incredibly draining , child like , pedestrian in every possible way . It was simply unreal how the show mange to quickly sink down so many levels in such little time . I found myself dozing off , day dreaming &j needing to rewind some of it to try and focus on the events that took place. I had to keep doing this repeatedly, only to find myself contemplating the purpose of my life . I've been waiting patiently to write this honest review and my final thoughts are that this shows ending was truly disappointing , abysmal , and pitiful . I'm genuinely offended that producers allowed Degrassis legacy to be tainted by amateur writing . There were several opportunities for the writers to branch off further with the storylines of the original cast members. They couldve expanded on Eliana's spiraling, her journalisim and her relationship with Craig. They could've expanded more on what happens next for Emma and spinners marriage - even though it was totally random and quite frankly a stupid closing but whatever . We could've gotten to know more of jimmys disability and how things turn out for him in the end along with ASHLEY KERWIN WHICH BTW WHERE DID SHE GO?! And what about Sean Cameron , like um did he die in the army or ?!! And just for the record, WE ALL KNOW THAT SEAN AND EMMA SHOULD'VE BEEN END GAME , POINT BLANK AND PERIOD . So many stories left inconclusive. Whoever was left in charge to finish this show should definitely have their writing license revoked a s a EFFIN p. Sincerely , a heart broken die hard DEG fan.

Derek and Danny had so much potential to become a good bromance storyline but it all tanked. Their stories just never sparked. The only reason I like Danny was when he tried kicking JTs butt for getting liberty pregnant.

Beginning of the season he's almost disguised by Liberty to only cheat at the end and somehow manages to date an entire friend group in 1 school year and is friends with all the bullies from Lakehurst including the kid that killed JT (still cry during parts of that season)
