Public proposals are horrible because you’re essentially coercing the person to say yes and they can’t discuss it or say lemme think or anything. Like I can’t imagine what I’d do in that situation.

If I was a girl, I'd whisper in his ear, "I'm going to say yes now to spare you from embarrassment but I can't now." And then pretend like I just said yes.

After you get rejected just say April fools to save you from looking sad

As someone who is married, my take on it is that I absolutely didn't want a public proposal. My now husband knew that and proposed privately. I would have been upset, and honesty if he had done so, he wouldn't have been the right man.

Here's the thing, a woman wants to be proposed to the way she wants. She is going to literally marry somebody, potentially have children, and spend a whole life with a significant other. If she doesn't immediately feel a burning passion in her heart when the male bends down on one knee to pull out the ring, there is a good chance that she didn't feel as though it was in the right environment, at the right time, or even from the right person. Though it's a pain for the guys, people need to understand that just because a woman saids no to a proposal, doesn't mean she's some jerk. It's a very large, long-lasting commitment and if they don't feel that it's something they'll want forever, she shouldn't be pressured into saying yes. Not even if a huge crowd is watching.

If my partner proposed to me and I wasn't ready i would take his hand and tell him the truth as kind as possible. I would tell him that I loved him but I'm not ready for marriage yet but i still love and want to be with him. It's best to be honest and sweet as the person had to gain a lot of courage and conference to propose and would worry if they chosen the right ring.
