For a future good sample (at least in my opinion), NO HOOK 3 by ADF SAMSKI. It’s a Dutch Drill song that samples Lady (Hear Me Tonight) by Modjo. The sample is very simple, it’s pretty much just a rap song over the original instrumental, but I think the beat works really well with rapping over it.

'Feel Good' by Suigeneris has to come up in a future video of these - he sort of straddles the line between "decent interpolation" and "über lazy sampling", cos Suigeneris just uses the main tone from the Gorillaz song, and uses one line on the first line of the hook - it is funky tho

Since you mentioned songs that sampled Jolene, A much better song that at least took inspiration from it is Codeine Heartbreak by Paul Wall featuring Crys Wall (Who I believe his wife) And it delves into Paul’s addiction to Lean and it was pretty heart tugging in my opinion

Nostalgia samples can be good if they’re flipped in a way that gives it a new structure and makes a brand new motif. The problem with low-effort nostalgia samples as shown in the video, is that they don’t change the sample. They keep the motif from the original, a motif that was likely much more popular at the time of release. It doesn’t stick the same. Ever tried to watch your favorite movie again? Doesn’t feel the same as the first time, does it?

that's not true for me,I think nostalgia samples can also be good even if they have the same motif. It depends if they done in a way that's actually great or good even or if it ruins the original track.

That beat from jay z has a decent history. It’s from Epmd’s “it’s my thing”, and came from the sample of “7 minutes of funk” by the whole darn family. It’s an iconic hip hop beat. You like what you like though🤷🏽♂️.

I think the thing with everybody is that jersey club is one of the worst genres of music ever at least imo. so unoriginal and uninspired. every song is the same 4 to the floor kick drum with a lazily chopped sample over it. Jersey club is one of the only genres that would make me agree that sampling is theft

On the contrary, I actually believe Nicki Minaj did GREAT with the sample on Everybody. It's fun/creative, catchy, and you can actually dance to it. I never cared to seek out the original after enough listens, but Nicki added some new life to it
