Another great video. Your recent video about your average monthly costs with a family of four was a real downer, but I appreciate the truth of the situation. I've heard various sources claiming that the ban on forerign buyers has numerous exceptions. Do you see this ban continuing past 2024? It's quite possible that the U.S. presidential election may, depending on the results, have a significant effect on Americans trying to immigrate to Canada (B.C.) On another note, it seems to me that the plethora of development in B.C. is, in large part, creating luxury condominiums and townhomes as opposed to low cost housing for lower income Vancouver workers.

After watching about 10 videos, I'm finally a subscriber. I appreciate the effort you put into these videos. One thing that surprises me, people in Ontario complain about all the rain in Vancouver, but don't seem to mind an 8 month winter. We only get green for about 4-5 months. Leaves come out late may, early June for some trees and start dropping September.... And it is cloudy most of the time here too, but you get warmer weather, rain instead of snow and things green up end of January where we have to wait until late April for any green grass ;) Just waiting for everything to line up

I appreciate that @OrdinaryFilmmaker! Thank you for watching my videos and for supporting the channel. I am grateful. I agree with you...I couldn't imagine real Canadian winters for long...but it's human nature to complain. In Vancouver, we love to complain about the weather and the Canucks...and in recent years, the cost of housing. I think we have it pretty good here all in all!

one thing to add for #7 lower income, we have higher tax too, so it really compounds the problem further.
@LivingInVancouver-BC
@LivingInVancouver-BC 7 ай бұрын
Appreciate you checking out the channel and sharing your thoughts @XMG3! It actually depends on your income levels (assuming you are talking about income taxes?) and which province you are comparing to. In a few categories British Columbians pay more, but mostly we pay lower taxes than many other provinces. At average income levels we are amongst the lowest in Canada...yes, even lower than Alberta (but one of the highest at higher income levels).

Cost of living relative to wages has spoiled the city. Despite the upsides, and I do like it here, I wonder if the average person should move on. I moved here inn1993, but I wouldn’t be able to afford it now. In 93 I earned 20 bucks an hour and a 1 bed in the west end was 550 per month. Those days are long gone.
@LivingInVancouver-BC
@LivingInVancouver-BC 3 ай бұрын
@epermute Well, I think that's exactly what motivates people to move on from Vancouver. Probably the biggest factor is the cost of housing. The thing is, where to? Everywhere has become more expensive. Those days are long gone everywhere. Rents across Canada aren't all that different these days...and personally, I'd much prefer to be here in Vancouver than, say, Windsor Ontario (sorry Windsor). ;)

Well simple, I am from the Netherlands: we can handle a little rain, lets say water in general 😂, traffic jams? Come to my country and you will learn that in the early morning and early evening it can be absolute hell moving from A to B in the more city areas. The winter in general? Same story as in Vancouver, from around November to medio April. We are on the 52th latitude, the same as Saskatoon but the only reason we do not have tough winters anymore for decades is because of the Atlantic warmth stream. Housing prices? Also here many live in a bubble, but by far not as extreme as in Canada. My luck was to buy 10 years ago exactly on the right moment at the right place, maybe when I will sell my house in the future there is enough money to rent in Vancouver to spend the last 15-20 years of life? The laid back attitude is great, love that. I my part of the Netherlands ( south) we have this same kind of attitude, yes you have to work for an income, but life itself is prio number 1, not how much money people make. Anyway, Vancouver could be a perfect place for me to live when I am around my retirement. Hiking in the mountains and live a simple but comfortable life in the city. Thnx for the vid, great info👍⭐👍

@Thadsamazingjourney I appreciate you checking out the channel and sharing your experience. However, I disagree with you. Obviously, there are instances of issues with driving...but on the whole Vancouverites are laid back and that is reflected (for the most part) in how people drive. NYC, Seattle, Toronto, Montreal, LA, Delhi, Mexico City are all VERY different driving experiences where drivers are much more intense and rushed.

Very thorough summary. I'd include the following. Broad strokes but I think they're relevant to people who are looking to move here. 1. The city is generally unfriendly. Almost insular. 2. Moreso for Metro Vancouver but the city is segregated into ethnic enclaves, which I feel contributes to point #1. Overall, I see this as a negative. 3. The Vancouver economy may be vibrant, mainly due to being the gateway to the Pacific Rim, but it is not dynamic. It is underperforming on that metric.
@LivingInVancouver-BC
@LivingInVancouver-BC 2 ай бұрын
I appreciate your input @Xyy2387 and the compliment. But, I don't agree with you on any of those points (although you do have a point that we have neighborhoods that have strong connections to particular ethnic backgrounds, but I find that to be a big positive not a negative)...but thank you for sharing. :)

About the weather how it you like it today lol? Absolutely misable. Heavy wet snow and then rain and it's cold. I got soaked while going out to run some errands. And it's already dark at like 4:30 pm. 5+ months of this weather is not fun

@nicktankard1244 lol…i was just out with the kids for a bike ride getting thoroughly soaked. I’d much rather be in a warmer climate personally. I don’t like getting cold at all. And in terms of Canada, I’d rather this weather than dealing with -30 and snow and ice for the same amount of time. But again, that’s why i brought the winter weather up as a downside of living in Vancouver. :)

@@LivingInVancouver-BC i was replying more to the original comment. As a European, I can't call Vancouver's transportation infrastructure anything but rather poor. 3 subway lines that cover only some parts of the urban area and slow and unreliable buses are definitely not fantastic. Of course, the rest of this continent is typically even worse. It is improving for sure, which is nice to see. Maybe in another 30 years, it will be adequate to comfortably live without a car in the lower mainland. We need to bring the trams back. Vancouver used to have an excellent tram network.
@LivingInVancouver-BC
@LivingInVancouver-BC 8 ай бұрын
@nicktankard1244 yeah. I hear you. There are definitely better systems in other parts of the world, but not many. It’s important to recognize some of the major differences though…like obviously a city as big and dense as London will have better service and infrastructure. Many European cities also built this infrastructure much earlier as they were bigger than Vancouver at the time…and there was also a lot of money to rebuild after the war. Vancouver didn’t have the benefit of being flooded with that money (nor was it big enough to require it at the time) and is now trying to build similar infrastructure at a time that it is astronomically more expensive.
