Yup. Personally, despite how comedically bad of an instructor he is, I think he’s something of an understated badass in an actual fight. In fact, that’s my headcanon of why he’s a colonel.

My theory is that it was the M-72 mechon that shielded him from the explosion, since mechon armor is notoriously durable. Either way, it's quite funny, I wonder what Egil might have thought of him if he was watching his exploits.

I don't think he was saying the explosion killed Fiora, I think he was saying that the explosion was worse than Fiora getting stabbed and getting stabbed killed her, so Vangarre should have died theoretically. At least that's how I understood it!

@@EvilMike349 The only valid explanation to me was that Vangarre still had the M-72 mechon on top of him and mechon armor is notably durable, so it shielded him from fatal damage from the explosion. Still a bit silly, but makes some sense.

So basically i was right, but I'm happy someone finally made a video about his unlimited plot armor. It always bothered me how nobody acknowledges this man's massive plot armor, every time i play through the game i end up thinking ok so how's this guy still alive?

Rex is a positive good natured human being in a world full of nihilism and through his efforts to try to understand the people who have been hurt by the current system and human nature.

A gentle reminder that Shulk (who actually is a shoen protagonist) stopped Dunban from killing Mumkar and forgave Egil five minutes after he killed "hundreds if not thousands". This is not the way a human would act, especially one who is supposed to be driven by revenge.

@@devinalexander6828 naw I could believe a human would act that way. Plus he didn’t forgive Egil, he never said anything about forgiving him. He just said he wanted them to understand each other.

@@devinalexander6828 he WAS driven by revenge, and forgiveness was his character growth. It wasn't simply done because "that's what Shonen Protagonists are *supposed* to do" (ie, Rex). Forgiveness isn't weakness. Do I still have a handful of problems with that scene? Yeah of course I do, but I know better than to mistake it for lazy, trope-first writing. For example, I think the scene would've gone over a lot better if it was clearly shown Mumkhar was completely incapacitated (ex: sparks and smoke flying off his Mechon & all mobile parts of the mech either chopped off or dangling limply, etc.) That way, Shulk could identify logically that the fight was won and he wouldn't be able to hurt them anymore (even if Mumkhar turned out to be faking it). It would make his choice appear to come from a place of logic rather than a moral high-ground, and I think that would fit his character better.
