The Terms of Employment (Information) act, 1994 obliges Irish employers to provide a written statement of certain terms and conditions of employment to the employee within 2 months of commencement of employment.

Is it right that the employer, demands that the employee must join a trade union, as part of terms and conditions of employment, even though it is not explicitly stated in the Contract?

I think the employee has a constitutional right to join or not join a trade union. The employer may want to make life easier for himself by ensuring he only has to negotiate with 1 party and not each individual employee. Balancing of rights is seldom easy.

Hi Terry, just read in a contract of employment, that the employer submits that the parties (Employer) (Employee) hereby submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Irish Courts, any thoughts to this clause?

Frank, no, I don't see a problem with it unless there are some exceptional circumstances that would make it significant or controversial. Would not know, though, without knowing all the facts and reviewing the contract.
