The video presents the Yalta Conference, one of the three major conferences in World War II regarding the postwar fate of the world.
Chapters:
00:00 Introduction
00:31 Historical Background
02:03 The Yalta Conference
03:59 Impacts of the Yalta Conference
The Yalta Conference occurred when World War 2 was near an end with the inevitable victory of the Allied powers led by the so-called "Big Three" - the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Soviet Union.
Formed by the end of 1941, the Big Three, also called the Grand Alliance, played the largest role in prosecuting the war against the Axis powers led by Nazi Germany, Imperial Japan, and Fascist Italy.
The Yalta Conference was the second of these three wartime conferences.
The first meeting gathering the Big Three Allied leaders: Joseph Stalin, Franklin Roosevelt, and Winston Churchill was the Tehran Conference, codenamed 'Eureka.'
Following the Tehran Conference, in February 1945, the trio met again at the Yalta Conference, also known as the Crimea Conference, taking place at Yalta in Crimea.
One of the conference’s biggest outcomes was the division of Germany into four controlled zones, occupied by the US, Great Britain, France, and the Soviet Union. Berlin, Germany’s capital, was further divided into four similar occupation zones.
The status of Poland was also put on the table. Although pledging to permit free elections in Poland, Stalin did not agree to return the Poland territory it had annexed in 1939. He used the Curzon Line as Poland’s eastern border, thereby keeping all Ukrainian and Belorussian territories within the USSR’s sphere of influence.
During the conference, the Soviet Union agreed to join the war against the Empire of Japan and committed to participating in the United Nations which was officially established on October 24, 1945.
After the Yalta Conference, tension over European issues deteriorated the relations between the United States (and Great Britain) and the Soviet Union.
What do you think is the decisive factor leading to the broken US-Soviet Union relations?

Thanks for this awesome video! Great summary. I was wanting to know more about the Yalta Conference and this helped a lot. To me, there's something really cool about seeing the "Big 3" having come together in such dire times. It's too bad its results ended up being controversial.

As a Mongolian, Yalta conference was live saver. Stalin has made it clear to if status quo of Outer Mongolia isn’t to be accepted by allies, he wouldn’t open Manchurian frontier to fight of Japanese army. Before that most of the world still believed that Mongolia was break away province of China. Yalta conference maybe left the expression of Mongolia being satellite state of USSR, but it definitely helped the independence of our country.

Now it’s a satellite of China. 96% of economy depends on China. So called nationalism didn’t help much. Inner Mongolia is way more significant no matter economically or culturally.

Why is Ireland highlighted as being part of the United Kingdom in 1946? 4:40 Ireland had been independent since 1921..

@@waap1949 "occupation" means that there's no civil authorities, but the territory is controlled by the military. Crimea is a Russian territory from Russian Constitution point of view. People have Russian passports, their own elected representatives, etc. Crimea is not "occupied", but instead is fully integrated within Russia. I agree that it's disputed by Ukraine.

@@not_a_human_being occupation means capturing the foreign territory to which has no sovereign right, without the consent of the government of the occupied state. and it doesn't matter what happens on this lands in the occupation it's not right the called this state of Russia, just add "occupied by Russia". so author also not right saying just "territory of ukraine" it's "territory of Ukraine occupied by Russia now".
