Anyone else hate being asked what gender you were assigned at birth? No one randomly tied a pink ribbon around my wrist at birth and said this one's a girl. My gender was determined at conception and no one asked for my input on anything. I learned pretty fast what being a girl was. It meant I had to sit down to pee and couldn't just go outside if I was in a hurry. The real differences came later. It never occurred to me to care about my plumbing when I was climbing trees or building sand castles. Gender was what parts you had and who you were was called personality. The only rule I had was getting dressed up on Sunday morning. Whether that was a dress or nice pants was up to me. One of my favorite celebrities wore flashy rainbow pants with sequins. His name was Doug Henning and he also had a mustache. Nobody was bothered by this. He was an awesome magician. And it was the 70s. People wore anything they liked. Nowadays we scare kids into wondering what they "are" long before they know why it matters. Stop trying to teach toddlers string theory and stick to the important stuff: manners.
