Reporting seems universal that the Arizona Coyotes will play their last game next week. I've been a hockey fan for over 30 years, and Coyotes fan since they moved here in 1996. I've been to Phoenix Roadrunners, Coyotes, and Arizona Sundogs games. I absolutely love(d) hockey. After next week, I think I'm done...

Thinking I might do a follow up over the next few days going into a bit more detail about "how did we get here" and what the feeling on the ground has been like through all this. Because I feel like it's important for outsiders to get some of the context on what led to this. Love all the comments though and appreciate all the kind words. I'm not a fancy "vlogger" or "insider" or anything. I love NASCAR, the Suns, and the Coyotes. I'm just a fan who loves hockey and felt like I had to put my thoughts out there. Thanks for listening.

Think of it this way. If that owner guy wins the auction to build a rink. They can always get a new owner, and they will still have that rink in arizona that dude built from the auction win. There will be no find a rink issue. Just find a better owner. Even if he still is the owner of the coyotes once the rink is finished.

The Coyotes NEVER had an owner that cared. NEVER. And people blame it on the fan base, the weather, the desert, hockey doesn't belong here blah blah blah. @GMPMHockey One thing that we can forgive in Arizona is that your owner asked for an "expansion" team and not a "relocation". So many people may say you guys stole them but that's not the case. Personally, you might even find some of us in Arizona following at a distance because we love this core so much (from GMBA to the scouts to Bear, the coach down to key players).
@GMPMHockey

@@Michael_RareZebra I can see why. The only thing I find at all disagreeable is dealing Chychrun, but maybe they had their reasons. I don't know if Smith is as innocent as the word "expansion" makes it sound (you don't talk about hosting the NHL in mere months in an expansion context), but I think there are a few possibilities. 1: The writing was on the wall internally already, and Utah not getting the Coyotes wouldn't mean Arizona would keep them. We'd just be having this same conversation about Houston. 2: Smith was talking about setting the Coyotes up for a few seasons in a more appropriate building than Mullett while Meruelo worked on the arena situation in Arizona (also providing a further case study for expansion to Utah). 3: Winnipeg is also out there failing to live up to its attendance promises to the league. (Entirely the organization's fault.) Smith was just covering all bases.

While we’re happy to finally get a NHL team here, we also understand the pain the Arizona fans have endured. I can see where it would make you reluctant to enjoy hockey again, but that’s my plea and my hope for you all - to not lose the love for the sport. Don’t let bad management or the lack of its leadership TAKE THAT AWAY from you. And honestly, most people hope and think that you guys will get your Coyotes back when the time is right and the new stadium is ready. Love from Utah.

First off, I'm so sorry about how everything went down. Nobody deserves this and your take on Meruelo is completely valid. That being said, thank you for giving your view as a Coyotes fan about this whole situation. I don't think a lot of people realize why the NHL tried so hard to stay in Arizona. The problem was never the fanbase. They saw that people wanted it and it could succeed. It's always been ownership. I genuinely hope you get the Coyotes, or at least whatever form they take, back some day. But I also hope you have competant ownership when that happens. I'm not a Coyotes fan, but I am glad I found this video. Opinions from Coyotes fans are really the only ones that matter in this, and it is devastating knowing legitimate hockey fans are now out of the NHL. None of this is your fault.

Jets should’ve never moved, look at how passionate the Canadian fans are packing house every night. Arizona had an empty arena 70% of the time. It’s all about money.
@jmanig76
@jmanig76 Ай бұрын
@@alexalmonte2423From someone who was there in the nineties, there’s a lot more to it than that. The Canadian economy was in the tank, the dollar was at an all time low and the NHL didn’t have a salary cap yet. One thing people forget is that no one or almost no one stepped up on the Canadian side stepped up to buy teams like Quebec and Winnipeg. Not saying at all it’s a good thing that they moved but the issue was way bigger than just “wanting to grow the game.” As for the Coyotes, they actually started well attendance wise when they were downtown, but that arena was a poor fit for hockey, Glendale decided they wanted them and the Cardinals to anchor an entertainment project and it all went downhill from there. As an Expos fan I’ll always have a soft spot for the Coyotes because I see a LOT of a parallels - a non traditional many market outsiders feel never had any business having a club in the first place but were more or less screwed by ownership at every turn and ended up despite the difficulties more popular and more loved by the community than people think.

I was a die-hard Thrashers fan from their first year up until their last game. I still have all the stuff I acquired over those years because I don't have the heart to dump it. Everything you said- everything you are going through resonates with me. The Thrashers fanbase was completely boned by bad owners who never even wanted a team and they offloaded it as soon as they could and the NHL did absolutely nothing about it. Somehow, despite that fact, it feels like the overwhelming majority of NHL "fans" think that Atlanta just has some innate opposition to hockey. They act like there are no fans here and the "few" that are "Don't understand the game and can't appreciate a team as much as fans in Winnipeg do." Its just as ridiculous for Arizona as it is for Atlanta. While you guys are getting at least some support from other fans, I see a lot of the same hate aimed at you by the same fucking nitwits that like to disparage Atlanta and its not accurate and its not right. Fuck those guys because they don't know what they are talking about. Ignore them, because they are rehashing false information that they hear from each other and they don't even have the aptitude to google what happened. I Don't get why other sports don't seem to have this problem of blaming fans for bad ownership's problems, but as great as our sport is, we have some absolute fuckwits as fans and they like to chirp more than anyone else. Damn dude- I am upset for you. So... when the Thrashers left, I didn't watch another game for 5 years. I just couldn't. Eventually, I started watching again but its not the same as it was. I hate the Jets and I casually root for the Leafs but ... its not like it was. The good news that maybe you can hold onto is that the Thrashers leaving did not kill local hockey. Since the team left, we have added another couple of rinks, the Adult leagues have grown, and we have added a new Jr team. Hopefully something similar happens in Phoenix. Here's hoping both of our cities get an expansion soon and that our jackass previous owners have nothing to do with either team. Hugs from GA.

I started liking this team ever since my mom got my NHL 15. The yotes were the first team I picked to play with and I always stuck to playing them and never another team. Last year it came to me that maybe I should start watching them and see how they are doing ever since then I’ve watched all the games I can since last year, and even though I’ve only been a fan for 2 years basically I still shed some tears because of this situation. I’m glad I have some coyotes stuff before it goes away but I will continue to support the new Utah team and the players I love like Keller, Cooley, Ingram, Crouse, Bjugstad, and basically all the players on the team. Rest In Peace Arizona Coyotes, you will be missed greatly❤️💔 Oh and hockey belongs in the desert no one can tell me different🌵

Please know that we will love and support this team to the fullest. I'm excited to see what they can do coming out of the rebuild and I'm fully buying into this young group of studs. Bro you summed up just about how I felt about all this. I’m devastated. My life changed so drastically because of the Coyotes. I found love for the game, the team, and picked up this sport knowing literally nothing about it prior. All started from just going to see a scrimmage game of them in 2013. Since then I met so many people in the hockey community and formed so many wonderful relationships. So many years of watching this team struggle, and we’re finally getting to a promising point, only to have that ripped away. Idk if I can follow them or hockey anymore either. I wish there was something to be done to prevent what's coming. Losing the Coyotes is a massive loss to all hockey fans. The best jersey in sports, a growing community of fans and like you mentioned: A great and exciting young team. I'd like to add that I have nothing against the state of Utah or Salt Lake, but this just feels unfair. You can have an expansion team at some point. Hockey belongs in Arizona. @@coastaku1954 such a braindead take...I wasn't aware that hockey was a sport that is officially a Canadian-only thing now, guess no one let me know. I've also never understood the argument that "hockey doesn't belong in the desert", as if hockey anywhere there's an NHL team is being played on frozen ponds outdoors, where the local climate determines whether or not you can play games there...if that were the case, a decent amount of the teams currently in the NHL including several which consistently do quite well attendance-wise would be out of business.

First off, this is the very first time I ever seen you on KZfaq. Happened to be on my home page of suggested videos. THANK YOU for sharing your thoughts on the devastating news. You were spot on. So much so that you echo exactly how many Coyotes fans feel today. Both a disgrace and a tragedy it ever came to this. This is one of the worst instances in sports history a team has been ripped away from their fan base. The amount of agita, frustration, fear, headache and tolerance the most loyal supporters have been through has been unmatched. We can talk about the Oakland Athletics all we want. But in the end, the Coyotes saga's so many twists and turns that we all could have given up after 2015. Maybe even 2011. I'm personally beyond any measure of anger. I feel so beyond betrayed by not just Alex Meruelo, but at least as much by the NHL Board of Governors and the biggest villain who in all likelihood is the mastermind behind the sudden change of course this week, Marty Walsh. That ****bag literally aired his dirty laundry with Meruelo publicly and said during All-Star weekend literally in his words that the Coyotes must relocate. Said all I needed to know that he was going to be the person that would undermine the Coyotes' chances to stay in Arizona. Turns out, I'm right about that! Many of us thought he had no power over what ownership and the league could do, but we were sure wrong. His waged war against Meruelo resulted in this. EVERYTHING you said about Meruelo still holds true. From the moment I heard the announcement that the original Winnipeg Jets were moving to Phoenix, I instantly became a fan. I nearly moved to Arizona when I was 7 years old, but it never came to be. I would visit my now-deceased maternal grandparents in Phoenix once every 2 years during my childhood and then did not ever again after my grandmother died of a heart attack when I was 16. Wasn't until just months after Jerry Moyes' bankruptcy filing did I come back knowing how urgent back then I needed to find my way there as an adult to see a home game. Never got to go at America West Arena. Friendships were forged out of this adversity of the team, memories still made including playoff games in 2010, 2011 and 2012, attending the Glendale City Council vote in July 2013, the last home game of the 2013-2014 season, Shane Doan Night and the first two ever home games at Mullett Arena. All with the threat of relocation for 25 years! Now this shit going down. I'm so angry that I cannot watch another game. Even will not bother with Wednesday night's final game in Coyotes history. And like you stated, I may have severed ties from the NHL. Being betrayed by Meruelo AND the league was enough to push me to this breaking point! And when you mentioned the trolls, they have been out in full force, they are vicious, hateful and evil. That is how sick these subhumans are. You are too polite. They contributed to the public perception of this franchise. I would recommend you looking out for ElmerFudd16, FischerFan, stevenbauer4799, bobbypaluga4346 and sampicano... if necessary, you would need to ban them as they have flooded all Coyotes KZfaq content on here for months, all while harassing anyone that supports the Coyotes (including me, obviously). Multiple parties are to blame for the end of Coyotes hockey as we know it. And the haters and I didn't even touch upon John Gambadoro's role either considering his employer is based in Salt Lake City (how convenient) and that dirtbag Frank Seravelli spreading all the information to the public before anything is confirmed. Craig Morgan was demonized for doing his actual job and called a hack by the haters for not supporting the anti-Coyotes narrative. I'm too numb, incensed and fed up with how things have ended up. It is disgusting that evil wins out and Coyotes fans have to be the sacrificial lamb of people that cared only about money and nothing else. If you do not watch the last 2 games, good on you. They don't deserve another second of your time.

So about 6 months before you were going to your first game with your Dad at 10 y/o, I was 16 and going to my last game with my Dad -- in Winnipeg when the Jets moved to Phoenix. To that point, most of my favorite memories were at Jets games with my Dad. It was a devastating, soul crushing experience and so my heart goes out to you and all Yotes fans as I know exactly what you are going through. And while, we eventually moved on, Winnipeggers had to accept that our tiny market would never have an NHL team again in our lifetimes. But then miraculously, we got a team back in 2011 (unfortunately, at the expense of Atlanta's fans). The NHL is coming back to Arizona. And its not going to be because of a land deal/development project as some real estate play but its because there are tens of thousands of die hard hockey fans in the desert, who put up with a revolving door of nightmare ownership on a losing team and still supported the team. The NHL will be back because of the growth of hockey development at the junior and college levels. And frankly, because AZ is a top 10 TV market and the economics of the league are such that TV and media revenue will soon exceed gate revenues. The NHL fought hard to keep a team in AZ but did not fight for WPG or ATL. And so they will be back. In the meantime, Im sorry you all are going through it. And if I had any advice, it would be to try to be kinder and hold no resentment towards the new Utah team and its fans. Thats the biggest mistake we made in WPG - we directed our anger everywhere - including some of it unfortunately towards the new team and fans who deserved none of it.

I was seven when the Jets moved to Arizona, and it was a confusing concept to grasp. Like trying to explain to a toddler that the sick dog is leaving but can't come back. It's just a hard idea to understand. I don't remember many things from my childhood, but I vividly remember going to Jets games with my dad and uncle. I remember the excitement in the building, the smell of the food, the ancient jumbotron with slow light bulb animation that went with the organ music. Those are memories that I will have forever, and I know my dad will always have, carrying my on his shoulders through the crowded concrete slab that was Winnipeg Arena. As much as I am thankful to have a team again and be able to make new memories with my dad, and now my daughter, it sucks being a benefactor of relocation, knowing someone else from Georgia has amazing memories of going to a Thrashers game, being amazed by the spectacular game and environment, getting excited when the goal horn goes off, and then being told that your favourite team is moving, and on top of that, people are going to blame the wrong reasons for why they are moving, and say shit like "It's just not a hockey today... The fans weren't there...no one was interested" when we all know it's bullshit. There is a incredible die hard hockey market and potential in Arizona and Atlanta, and I hate how the general internet will continue to label them as "Bad hockey markets" when in reality it has nothing to do with the market or fans. It's the same reason the original Jets moved. Terrible ownership who failed to make the right moves YEARS ahead when there were signs that something needs fixing before the NHL intervenes. I feel awful for you and all Coyotes fans. I'm sorry

I hope there's a new Coyotes franchise in Arizona as soon as possible, hopefully with some serious revision for the ownership/management and infrastructure situation. As a Utah sports fan, I'm over the moon that we're getting an NHL team, but seeing the long suffering Coyotes fans cope with this is hard, and my heart goes out to y'all. I don't know what consolation it is, but I truly believe the team will be loved and very well supported in Salt Lake.

@@coastaku1954 This joke is over played and not even funny. Its obvious Arizona has fans. With a full Arena, they had more than the Islanders, Ottawa attendance wise. Check attendance stats prior to Mullet. And even if you say it was a lot of Other team fans, thats the point Bettman is making. Arizona will strive if you give it proper management and area. From great vacation spot along with growth, Arizona has a ton of potential.

The ironic thing is the NHL will put a team in Atlanta for the third time.

Except, like Arizona, Atlanta lost their team both times due to careless ownership. It’s not a fan/market problem

I feel for you AZ, had some of the best jerseys and passion from the fans. Loved seeing my redwings play there via tv and i can't image the amazing atmosphere of the small barn they played in at the end. Much love and respect TBG.

Right? I'm a Leafs Fan but the Nordiques NEED to come back, the team was sold just as the team was becoming unstoppable. Meanwhile Coyotes have been absolutely dogshit for their entire run and while they are FINALLY moving, the league is promising Arizona to COME BACK as an Expansion franchise within the next 5 years! That's so unfair to everyone in Saskatoon/Regina, Hamilton and Quebec City, TRUE hockey fans who live and die hockey!

My friend, if you love hockey, please keep loving it. I lived the the North Stars moving and I switched to the Penguins. We live in Kansas City and have an ECHL Team. We love it and have season tickets. Travel to a couple NHL games yearly. Phoenix will get an AHL or ECHL team most likely. Please support them. The NHL should come back, hopefully with a new owner.

I’m not a Coyotes fan, I’ve never watched any of your videos, hell, I’m not even really much of an NHL fan… all that being said, this video absolutely crushed me. I can’t even imagine the pain of losing the team that you’ve dedicated yourself to for practically your entire life. It’s like grieving the loss of a family member, I’m so sorry for your loss.
