Defending the Biblical Roots of Christianity

Defending the Biblical Roots of Christianity

Күн бұрын

In today's passage, the author begins to look at the high priesthood of the Messiah, Jesus, and show how He is a better high priest than any that came before Him. (In fact, he will use the priesthood of Jesus over the coming chapters to show His superiority over the entire Old Covenant system of rituals and worship that the priests were in charge of.) The reason he’s drawing these comparisons is because the author is writing to a primarily Jewish audience who were enduring persecution for their faith in Jesus, both from their non-believing Jewish friends and family, and from the Roman government, for whom Christianity was an illegal religion and would be for the next few centuries. So these Jewish believers were being tempted to drift back to the Old Covenant temple rituals and priesthood that they were so used to. Because that would ease the pressure they were feeling because of their faith in Christ. And the author’s continuous refrain is "Hold fast to your faith! Hold fast to your confidence in Christ!"

Our Torah observant friends have solid videos such as this that refutes their beliefs clearly. I sadly find all Torah observant people that I have met so far to be somewhat confrontational disrespectful & self righteous. Spiritual transformation is their only hope. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

Hey Rob FYI, I am listening to this on headphones and can hear constant interference in the audio track. Is your lapel mic wireless? It sounds like you are picking up a near-frequency radio station. You may want to pick a different frequency if possible, or switch to a wired mic. Really liking the whole setup though, with the TV and iPad-really slick!

10:08 hey Rob. Thought I would share this with you as I just discovered it this morning. It is now going around in some Torah keeping circles that Jesus in effect *earned* eternal life, and his place as eternal High Priest in Heaven. I could see how some Torah keepers could read this passage in Hebrews chapter 5 and come to that conclusion. Can you offer an explanation for why that belief is erroneous based off of Hebrews five?

Hello. off topic but something you should be aware of. One of the videos that popped up in my video feed on Facebook was a KZfaq one from two years ago with the title "Explosive Confrontation with Jerusalem Street Missionary! Rabbi Tovia Singer Turns Table on Preacher". Anyway, that video sort of illustrates a problem that you point of with the channel, namely how Torahists are eventually tempted back to traditional Judaism. Basically, what happens is famous Jewish Apologist Tovia Singer interrupts the street preaching of the guy with the "Lapid Judaism" channel on KZfaq (strong Torahist to the point of calling Paul a false apostle). Rather than pitching Jesus as Messiah, Tovia ends up making a much better pitch why this guy should leave his faith, while the Lapid Judiasm guy eventually listens respectively taking it all to heart. The fact he is till running his channel, shows it didn't quite work, but is a textbook example of the dangers of Torahism. I would point this all to Christian Apologists like Sam Shamoun who Tovia Singer actively avoids when it comes to such debates.

@@TheBiblicalRoots thanks. I just finished a new dramatic presentation of the Book of Hebrews. You may remember (I think I mentioned it to you before) that I did it about 20 years ago. This time around it’s very different. 20 years ago, I had the sense that every sermon I’d ever heard seems to highlight chapter 11. This seemed way off to me. The clearest pinnacle of the book was the two mountains in chapter 12 which seemed to lead dramatically to “…our God is a consuming fire!” But now I see a greater depth that chapter 11 is the necessary path that leads us to the pinnacle. I have an ambition of sharing some insights that seem to come from the meditations that built the new presentation. It’s called, “Close your Eyes and See”.

Defending biblical roots of Christianity I would like you to do another video on Isaiah 53 and this is from not Rabbi singer but I believe this Jewish KZfaqr is a friend of Rabbi Singer. I don’t remember his name, but I remember that he has a KZfaq channel called the exodus Project. This is a Jewish KZfaq channel to focus on the core belief systems of Christianity and argues that they are not from the Jewish Bible, but they all come from different sources such as Isaiah 53 about Jesus. He argues that this is not about Jesus and I would like you to do a video and respond to him please❤

Great stuff, sir! And thank you much for this series. One potential critique though, in closing you mentioned "in the *order* of Melchizedek" in a way that is as if it is its own priesthood-ie the 'Melchizedekian priesthood' or the 'Order of Melchizedekian Priests' or the like. Is that what you meant? If so, the better translation is "in the *manner* of Melchizedek", as it is saying he was both a priest and a king-he is the precedent set up to point to what the Promised Messiah would be. Jesus' Priesthood is His own "order" that He alone is in, but it is in the same manner as Melchizedek in that He holds both the Kingship and the Priesthood-which is an audacious thing that needed a precedent set for it. On this note, I have a video I've been working on for a while all about Psalm 110 and I would greatly appreciate your thoughts on it when I finally get it recorded and published in the near future! About to start the recording process. Reckon you'll at least find it interesting. Much love to and yours, and thank you for what you do!
@ArchDLuxe
@ArchDLuxe 2 ай бұрын
@therunawayrascal the priesthood held by Christ must be the Order of Melchizedek not just in the same manner as Melchizedek. Else, the comparison between Levi and Melchizedek in chapter 7 has almost no relevance. It is reduced to saying, "Melchizedek was greater than Levi, but who knows where Christ falls in the priestly hierarchy." Rather the author clearly understands Christ to hold the same office as Melchizedek held, which does not move hierarchically relative to the Levitical Priesthood. In his mind, the fact that Melchizedek outranked Levi is absolute proof that Christ (via the office He holds) outranks the Levitical Priests.
@therunawayrascal
@therunawayrascal 2 ай бұрын
@@ArchDLuxe why is Melchizedek greater than Levi? What exactly is it? In the same manner, Christ is greater than Levi. All those things apply to Christ. Namely, that the priesthood is bestowed upon him by God, not through an inheritance of one form or another. Is Jesus not greater than Melchizedek? *And what does the Hebrew word dibrah mean?
@ArchDLuxe
@ArchDLuxe 2 ай бұрын
@therunawayrascal we are not told why God made Melchizedek to be greater than Levi in the text. We are simply presented with the proof of the hierarchy; Levi paying tithes to him through Abraham. Note that I have made no argument that Jesus inherited his priesthood. I think the author of Hebrews calls that out specifically as a difference between Christ and the Levitical Priests. Unless you believe that Mechezidek was Jesus (which I am not specifically arguing against), then Jesus's superiority varies in manner (dibrah) from Melchizedek's (with one being God and the other not). I simply don't see the text forcing us to that equivocation. Just as I don't think that David was the pre-incarnate Christ, despite Jesus sitting on "the throne of David."
@therunawayrascal
@therunawayrascal 2 ай бұрын
@@ArchDLuxe so then going back to your first comment, what is this (O)rder of Melchizedek if it is not a manner? As now you say Christ didn't inherit His priesthood, so how is He in Melchizedek's priesthood? Apologies, I am no longer able to see the nuanced point you are trying to make. I'm not sure where we disagree/where you disagree with my original comment. With my question of "why" I meant "how" is Melchizedek greater, what is listed to show he is greater. My point is that it is talking about how Levi needed a strict law to arbitrate the succession while Jesus and Melchizedek are akin because both of them received their priesthoods by Divine Oath outside of and in defiance to a law or tradition of succession, and that this way of being appointed due to righteousness is obviously greater than ancestral succession which occurs whether one is righteous or not. That is how Jesus and Melchizedek are alike as it pertains to the priesthood, as well as both being both priest and king. But that doesn't make them in the same priesthood, both are their own. And also with my question about greatness, I mean specifically their priesthoods. Melchizedek's priesthood is greater than Aaron's, but how is Jesus' priesthood greater than Melchizedek's if they both are within Melchizedek's priesthood?
