When David is not running an advertising and marketing company, his hobby is The Bond Experience which is primarily a video blog where he discusses Bond experiences and the people and brands that help to create those experiences...
David has been featured and sourced for articles in Time Magazine, The Boston Globe, The Courier Times, USA Today, Star Magazine, MM&M, The Exchange, The Guardian, The New York Times, Bond on Bond, American Media Inc., AP Wire and online social media outlets. David has been a speaker at Johns Hopkin, Hofstra University, Columbia as a Bond Experience expert. His collection represents one of the most complete example of Bond lifestyle items. Invited to cover Tom Ford, Omega, Heineken, Coke, Orlebar Brown, NPeal, Floris, Lock & Co., Sunspel, Turnbull & Asser, and a multitude of location partnership events, David has represented social media experiences for many years. In addition David has provided props and decor for Johns Hopkin Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace Premieres as well as the Devereaux Foundation 007 Fundraiser. The mantra of living like Bond, one moment at a time emanates from a concept of experiencing the joy of collecting small moments in life that add up to amazing journeys and stories....

At 51 this is the first Bond movie I saw in the movies with my Dad. I love the travel, locations, Bond girls, humor, and the black Camaro in the chase scene from the Villa. I had a white 1979 Camaro in college like that car.

OK - it's defo in the top 6 or 7 - especially as it's a remake of one of the worst 3 - thunderball* [ * please inject 15 pints of MDMA juice into the necks of your loved ones, at least one hour before exposing them to thunderball - otherwise they will have arrived and be signing paperwork at Dignitas before you wake up for your cornflakes ]

This is a great movie about an older Bond. You should have waited to see it with the correct soundtrack though. It’s really not bad & was how they intended for you to see it. Best one liners of any Bond movie too. Genuinely one of my faves.

Also I have to explain something else. This movie lives in a universe that ignores the after Connery Bond movies. It is like Bond returns in action after 1971. (last Connery film). He is now older. The years have passed and the position of M belongs now to a bureaucrat who disagrees with the old Bond methods. Also the 4rth wall was broken back in 1969. When. G. Lazenby referred to the audience, saying "This never happened to the other fela.. “ in OHMSS.

it is actually quite entertaining. No, this isn't the hungry Connery of From Russia with Love or Goldfinger, but he seems to be enjoying himself and does deliver a few iconic lines with classic Connery aplomb. I saw it in the theater (along with Octopussy). I was unaware of the studio politics going on, but all the same was pleasantly surprised.

Another trivia note : it features Rosanna Atkinson(who spoofed Bond in his Barclaycard adverts and also the “Johnny English” films). It was also directed by “The Empire Strikes Back” Irvin Kerschner and was also shot in the Star Wars and Indiana Jones studios - Elstree Studios; plus, Steve Seagal was a stunt coordinator for the film(Connery broke his hand).

NSNA gets a bad wrap. Maybe the original score is a bit off, but I have heard equally ill-fit music in an "official" Bond film ("Goldeneye"). I only wish the tone was a bit more consistent in parts. However, its a mostly enjoyable film, and Sean Connery is a joy to watch...again!

Never Say Never Again was a super millionaire production. The locations: France, London, Bahamas, Monte Carlo, Spain, etc., were chosen with great care. The yacht "Nabila" by tycoon Adnan Kashoggi, was the largest in the world at those times and the rent cost $ 20,000.00 each day! The YAMAHA factory built the motorcycle especially for Sean. The Director Irvin Kershner was the most expensive and successful of the moment. Kim Basinger and Barbara Carrera, the most beautiful actress of the moment; one brunette and the other blonde. Klaus María Bandauer was awsome! In short, N.S.N.A had to be filmed! Thanks Sean, thanks Mc.Klory, thanks Irvin and Klaus María!

I actually thought the Lani Hall Never Say Never soundtrack was good. Yeah it didn't fit the onscreen action but it wasn't suppose to and I'm really afraid of what they would have replaced it with. It was something new and different and I grew up listening to it as I've seen the movie many times. I would never remove it as it's a classic and part of my childhood. That being said I would have moved the song to the opening credits which didn't exist due that it not being a true Bond film. This is what I would have done. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qZ9_rLp-qte6aJc.html

It’s a bit cheesy, but it’s sort of fun in its own way. It’s certainly more entertaining than “Thunderball”, as that really gets bogged down in the middle of the film. Trivia note, this is the only Bond film other than “Die Another Day” to feature a sex scene with Bond(Fatima and Bond getting it on in the boat). I wish Timothy Dalton had been able to do a “Thunderball” adaptation like it was rumoured(would have been called “Warhammer”), but it never happened.

Connery was 40 in DAF, and was looking rather worse for wear. He's 52 in NSNA, and looks amazing for his age, and in fact looks amazing compared to a LOT of people younger than him. This movie is nowhere near as bad as detractors claim. Definitely mid-grade Bond. Certainly a LOT better than several other Bond movies.

I have to say that I never seem to be on the same page with David when it comes to Bond movies. NSNA is what made me a Bond fan in the first place. Fantastic review of the film! It's always great to see Ellis on the channel. I watched this edit of the film with the music replaced with EON Bond music, and I thought it hurt the film more than the original music did. All it did was remind me of the better scenes where the music originally came from. I think that if the music had all come from one Bond film, like Thunderball, it would have at least given the film a consistent sound, but when the music comes from all over the Bond series it is very distracting and feels too fake. What I can't believe is that this film is from the same director as The Empire Strikes Back. David, Connery was one year older than you are now in NSNA, so that's what you have to look forward to next year. -MS

When it comes to Bond films, Bond's own narcissism is only overmatched by the villain, which is how Bond typically wins. The villain gets too cocky, spills the beans about his plans, and predictably, Bond is able to outsmart him.

For all its faults (and there are many) I still enjoyed this one when it came out. Connery is just a natural as Bond, Barbara Carrera made a great femme Fatale, and I still like the World Domination video game sequence. Phyllis Hyman recorded a title song that, for contractual reasons, could not be used - it's a shame, because it's really a great Bond theme!

I saw this movie when I was a teenager, during the time I was really getting into James Bond fandom, I didn't think much of it and dismissed it as an inferior remake of Thunderball (1965). Interestingly, I just watched it past weekend and I found it slightly better than I remember it. I find Sean Connery charming as an older agent, Fatima Blush was a fun female villain, and I felt this version of Largo was a superior and a more compelling villain than presented in Thunderball. In addition, I did find most of the action sequences fun. However, the movie starts falling apart as it enters and goes through it's third act. The title song was quite bad and the music was not memorable at all, but standard for 1980's action movies. I felt Max Von Sydow was completely wasted and probably my least favorite version of Blofeld. M in this movie was very over the top and not very interesting, but Q and Nigel Small-Fawcett were quite fun. I can't say this movie is good, but it is entertaining and it does have some merit to it. I'd say it's an average action movie, 6/10. It's much better than it has any right to be.

Amusing observations. What’s with this ageism trend of late, though, especially with online (read: clueless male-heh heh; I kid; well, sort of) comments? Connery has the appeal of a man, not a boy. He looked sharp in Never as did Rog in Octopussy. Scenes where younger women are swooning over him makes (and has always made) total sense to me. It’s frickin’ Sean Connery! Don’t take my word for it. The central ladies engaging in scenes of amore with Connery all noted how much chemistry they felt with him: Basinger noting how she had sex fantasies about the man! His appeal is timeless!

Peter Shallis it’s ok if a big Bond fan but it’s not an official Eon Productions produced Bond film. It’s a remake of Thunderball so if you have seen Thunderball it has essentially the same plot and characters like Domino, Largo, Blofeld etc just different actors as Thunderball was in 1965 and only Connery back this time at age 52. Never Say Never Again was a decent movie and released in 1983 along with Octopussy so it was the battle of the Bonds that year with Roger Moore and Sean Connery going against each other. Connery actually looks at 52 in this then he did in 1971 when Diamonds Are Forever was released and he was only 40 then:

To be honest, this movie has always reminded me of the movie Ladyhawke; both films have great cinematography, highly talented actors/actresses, compelling characters, and quality dialogue - yet despite all of these positive attributes, the insanely terrible soundtracks cause damage to all of the good elements of each film. Is the version of this that you guys watched available on youtube or the internet?

Happy Thanksgiving guys! (Wife has the flu so family not coming so perfect day for a Bond experience!) I actually remember enjoying this when it came out! I guess seeing Sean back made up for everything else that was bad about it. I would love to see that version with a real Bond score because I think that was the absolute worst part of the movie and ruined the entire film. There were some good stuff-thought Connery was still great and Barbara Carrera was sensational...But overall,of course,it was not up to the Eon films on any level!

The change of music must have made a difference but Ellis and yourself made some good observations re the film. I saw it when it came out imagine having two Bond films to go see one starring Sean Connery and Roger Moore was cinema heaven even if Never Say Never didn't pack all the punches that Octopussy did there were still some good moments.

I think of people who don't like this movie as lacking a sense of humor. It isn't brilliant, and he is older, but Connery can get away with a lot, and he's still charismatic in this film. The supporting cast is phenomenal honestly. Having Barbara Carrera and Kim Basinger alone makes it great, and the villain is kind of weak, but sufficiently creepy. James Fox is a major name to have made it into the film. Not into the Q in this film, though.

They break the fourth wall in On Her Majesty's Secret Service when Lazenby said "This never happened to the other fella". I like Max Von Sydow as Blofeld and Bernie Casey as Felix Leiter, otherwise the movie was really bad.

I have to say, I love this movie for what it is in its original form. Yes, it's a remake of Thunderball and when you know the history around that book, and Kevin McClory you understand. I'm saddened that you guys finished the musically edited film. Has anyone ever noticed that Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, The Spy Who Loved Me, Octopus and Tomorrow Never Dies all have a similar plot?

Barbara Carrera stole the show, IMO. Definitely the best performance in the movie and one of the best female Bond characters, even if it isn't an official Bond movie. The movie seems to go downhill after Fatima is killed.

In the early 80's everyone was a Moore fan, Connery was the 'TV Bond', being a Connery fan, man was this so exciting but yes the music score sucked super arse but Brocoli tried every thing to derail this movie, including making it clear that he would not look favourably on Barry doing the score..Roger wanted to do a cameo too

I rewatched this movie this past weekend. It isn't a terrible film. There are slow bits, but Connery definitely seems to be enjoying himself. My whole problem with it is the horrible score. I do enjoy the main theme by Lani Hall and the trumpet versions of the theme by Herb Alpert. However, the rest of the soundtrack is awful. If someone like John Barry had been given a crack at this, it would have improved the film significantly.

I liked Connery in the film, the villainous Bond girl Fatima and the villain was alright- that's about it. The climax was somewhat anti- climatic and most of the film was forgettable. Also, I wasn't a fan of M in the film or Q- no one play the role better than Desmond. Lastly, it didn't have the typical pre-credit sequence other Bond films have.

it should have been the best bond - at least for its time - it was post raiders ( how to make a great action adventure film ) . directed by irvin kershner ( empire strikes back ) it was post moonraker ( How Not to make a bond movie ) .unfortunately It was a wasted opportunity . i dont mind the jazzy bits from the original score but michel legrand couldnt do tension or scale and his original score was a bit like the pink panther. The film also suffered from some very muted and clunky action scenes .

Edward Fox who played M is an accomplished actor, its a shame to see his M being so OTT. Q was played by the late Alec McGowen who is terrific in the Hitchcock film Frenzy and a stunning stage actor, again its a waste seeing him play such a poor Q.

I really hate Never Say Never Again. I know it is superfluous to need the Bond tropes, but for me it is integral to the series. But aside from that, the movie is filmed in such a flat, boring way. Hideous cinematography. How did Irvin Kershner go from The Empire Strikes Back to this? This is a bad remake of the much superior Thunderball. The only plus this movie has is Barbara Carrera as Fatima Blush, who was offed way too early in the film. Max Von Sydow was great as Blofeld, but we get so little of him.

This was my first Bond film, stuck on an international flight at age 9. I honestly thought, "Does this movie have a plot at all? Why do people like these?" It was redeemed with Living Daylights and Octopussy on VHS later on.

Yes - the plot is 2 atomic warheads had been stolen by the SPECTRE criminal agency and threatened to blow-up a major city unless their demands were met. So Bond is assigned to crack the outfit. Also, It was miles better than the campy Octopussy!.

Fatima was good villainess, a true hysterical psycho. Agree on Spectre, thought it has grown on me a bit, having charming details, but pretty awful on the whole. As a feminist critic put it, the Craig films, at least past CR, are as if put together by someone with a guilty conscience.

I don't give a Monkeys what anyone thinks - I really enjoyed NSNA - it certainly beat the embarrassing Octopussey! Maximillian Lago was convincingly played, and Fatima Blush was the most sinister of female villains (with possibly the exception of Rosa Klebb) Max Von Sydow made a very menacing Blofeld - much better than the Campy Charles Gray in DAF; and Connery clearly IS James Bond & sets the benchmark for anyone else!
