Concerning the length of a YT video = some of them need to be longer; like this one. The whole thing is an excellent tutorial. Bonsai isn't a slice and dice art. Is a very time consuming & even harrowing practice. i know many of your viewer appreciate the patience/tolerance that shows. This Schef was already amazing however the present work is filled with great "tutoring". Imaculaing something takes a lot of talent; raw learning talent or otherwise. Also, Nigel is more or less setting standards for bonsai - - - call it modern bonsai(?) Another viewer once said "Nigel would bonsai a Dandelion". So be it . . . the "purist" will be left in the dust as everything evolves. Anyway . . . this is very educational as well as entertaining; Thanks!!

I think that all of us would agree for you to finish the plant room first and then the videos. Time is growing short before the cold weather gets in and work that has to be done first is top priority for you. You have great tutorials, but, I can wait for one once you finish the plant room. Another thought is that as you work on the plant room, just let the camera run. Then in the important parts write in the script for that sequence like they used to do before talking pictures came out with piano music and all.

"I'm going to have to paint the bumpers, they're the only white thing on the truck" -> except the roof over your head! Great episode. Saw the 90 minute runtime and got nervous, but I was riveted for every minute of the pruning! Sometimes when I watch these detail prunes on the more established trees, it almost seems like you just end up back at the same mature wood you started with 2 or 3 years prior. But then I look carefully and you've still some green here and there, so out of all of those hundreds of new shoots I can see you've anointed a very select handful of winners. And a few older, mature experiments got closed out too. Incredible patience. And you can see the result in the lower branches of this Schefflera. I don't have any trees near the refinement phase yet, but the patience on display is inspiring as usual!

Nigel Buddy, your Scheflera looks so epic de-foliated! And that couple complimented your truck, your smile was priceless. Cracked me up. When you trim your baby jade, I think I will (mine) to. Again. lol. It thinks it’s spring again now that I’ve brought it inside. My dwarf Hibiscus is not happy to be inside. It lost a bunch of leaves. I really hope it doesn’t die on me. It was my pride and joy all summer. I wanted to trim it but I don’t dare to now. 🌺

A couple of things: When you talking about having to go to London to pick up a drive shaft, my first thought was (and I’m not joking bather way) “Your going to London (UK) to pick up a drive shaft?? Why go all the way there? Surely there is someone in Canada that can do it?” I now realise that there is a city in Canada called London. I also have the same problem with the camera just cutting off when it runs out of storage. The amount of times I’ve just been working away and then suddenly realise that it hasn’t been recording. I agree that the camera should just make a noise to alert you that it has stopped recording.

This would be hard to pick, but I think the schefflera probably has to go in the list of your top 5 bonsai. There's awesome movement in those trunks and the composition as a whole is really coming into its own. I've got more tropicals than my winter windows can handle as it is, but you've got me wanting to start one!

My friend, Nigel, very cool looking Schefflera, the jade forest is cool too. I guess in that climate and many others jades will do better in a far less water holding soil like granite grits + lava rocks or something like that. I guess perlite is a killer for them.

Oh Nigel, how I love your channel. Just found it today searching for what to do with a Schefflera that was gifted to me. I have no idea the age, maybe two years. It is in the shape of a "Y" with two possible apex. I would like it not to grow too high but there's a huge gap between the "Y" and I have no idea how to prune it to get rid of it and make it bushier. Does this make sense and do you have any helpful advise. Thank you for your channel and any help!

When the tree is healthy and growing well early summer, give it a hard prune and it will get new branches all around the cut points, this will allow you then select the branches you want to grow, the others can be pruned off!
