@@pvajit1109 The Phantom was probably the best multirole aircraft of all time, but being multirole it was simply good in everything but not excellent in anything. Besides this, the main weapon of the Phantom at the time was the Sparrow BVR missile that was notoriously inaccurate with around 15% success rate. During the 1971 India - Pakistan war, the Pakistani Airforce was equipped with more modern aircraft that they had received recently and their pilots were still adapting to their use. The Indian airforce had older aircraft, but their pilots were well adapted to their use and did outperformed the newer aircraft of Pakistan. As far as the Gnat goes, it was not called Gnat without a reason. It was a small extremely agile plane, that when armed with IR missiles was a formidable opponent in subsonic dogfights. The only advantage the Phantom had over the Gnat was its far greater speed that would allow it to escape to a safe distance and possibly try its luck with the unreliable Sparrow missiles. The 33 Greek Phantoms today, have being modernized with the German version of the F/A-18C/D radar and digital cockpit package, as well as new smokeless engines. In this configuration, they are on the same level with the F/A-19C/D and can fire all the modern missiles and weapons the F/A-18 C/D uses. However being in service with the Hellenic Air Force since 1973 the Greek Phantoms are not expected to go an other depot level overhaul and they will be withdrawn from service as they complete their current flight hour life span. Most probably they will be replaced by the F-35A in the near future.

You can look up the F20 yourself. It's posted in several places. What I was advocating was not to even try to make the F20 carry bombs. Rather station it near sensitive borders where seconds matter when there are incoming planes. The F20 has the fastest scramble time in the world. It would throw up a quick fighter screen to disrupt incoming attacks in countries that are bordered by hostile neighbors.

They've always had a problem with electronics. Not because they haven't had talented engineers but social and economical systems had restricted people's creativity. They had one research center for semiconductors whereas in US any smart engineer could started it's own company.

When Israel arranged for an Iraq Air Force pilot to defect with his MIG 21 in 1966, the USA (and presumably the UK) were amazed at how poorly the airplane was constructed. Yet, it flew and fought well. The same situation came about in 1976 when a Soviet Pilot flew his Mig 25 Foxbat (the near Mach 3 fighter) to Japan and defected -- much to their surprise. The Japanese (and Americans) took the plane apart before returning it to the Soviets, and were stunned at the below standard construction. Yet it was fast and flew. Russian jets were well designed -- and fast --- and could be produced cheaply -- but were terribly built.

Lockheed Martin purchased General Dynamics in 1997 and with it they aquired the ownership of production and all technical info for General Dynamic aircraft (everything was still manufacturered by General Dynamics until Lockheed Martin later phased out the General Dynamic brand. However they had no involvement in the original design or production of the F16 until recently when they announced the new F16 Block 70 variant which hasn't begun deliveries yet and isn't slated to until 2024. Everything prior to that was still done by the same designers that previously worked under the General Dynamics brand. That's like attributing the F15 to Boeing because they bought McDonnell Douglas.

Its still a Russian plane in essence. That's why its called Sukhoi. Which is a Russian company. Incidentally Su30MKI also happens to be the Sukhoi variant that crashes the most frequesntly in peacetime.

Stealth doesn’t work like that. You have to redesign the canopy, redesign the air intakes, redesign the body panel rivets … just everything . Then get rid of middle attachment points- redesign internal weapons bay… and so much more. You just cannot put a coat of paint on it and call it stealth. Sure would save a lot of time and effort if that was the whole process.
